Did you see that lob back from Zaun to Lilly? Pods should steal home on the throw back to the pitcher. -

Let's get this game going and make it 23 out of 30! -
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 7, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) That's the thing. Do you think any competitor with the right mind is going to say, "Take me out, I'm done". Especially not El Duque. I just think it's in the best interests of the team for the long haul that El Duque is limited to 105 pitches or right around there. EDIT: And I should say, there are exceptions. If El Duque starts the inning with 90 pitches, and there are runners on base with two out, and he's at 108 pitches (just making this up), then obviously, you let him have his shot at getting out of the inning. I just didn't like the decision to keep him in the game, especially when he was at 100 to start the inning. I share your concerns, but I know what kind of horse El Duque is. In fact, so is his brother.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 7, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) No one is saying an 85 pitch count. But was there really a reason that El Duque came out for the seventh last night, other than to have a chance at the win? He was at 99 or 100 pitches, and it's not like our bullpen was worked to death the past couple nights. It helped us last night, but down the road, it's gonna bite us in the ass. And, this isn't the first time that this has happened. He went one inning too long last game, too, and that resulted in a pitch count at or over 110. This isn't Mark Buehrle or Livan Hernandez were talking about. El Duque pitched a fine game -- not great, but good enough, going six strong and giving up three. There really was no need for him to go out in the seventh... If he felt strong, I see no reason why he shouldn't have pitched the 7th.

Underrated, definitely. The overrated always have reality to deal with, eventually. It usually hits pretty hard.

Especially for White Sox starters ... lately.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 7, 2005 -> 10:25 AM) Or are we lucky j/k i wouldnt want harm to come to any player even if it was derek jeter. Yes, we were lucky. He's just starting to hit. I'd hate to see him getting hurt now that's he on the upswing from his bad start.
-
El Duque's a horse that is used to going deep in games. He's completely healthy now. He's a professional pitcher and knows what he can and can't do.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 7, 2005 -> 07:47 AM) 1 good month doesn't win you a season. To win 90 games, we just have to go a little over .500 the rest of the way, and that should be the main aim from here on out. Anything extra I would probably consider a bonus. 90 is not going to be enough.

QUOTE(TLAK @ May 7, 2005 -> 07:57 AM) I have a theory on why Maryotti, Kruk, Reynolds, Phillips etal don’t know what to make of the White Sox. They really don’t report on baseball, they report on baseball stars. Sort of like these ‘People’ celebrity shows. They tell you everything about an actress’s private life and her gowns but nothing about her work. Garland’s performance has been remarkable, Iguchi’s start is certainly of interest but, on the whole, this is a group of players that are just doing their job everyday. The Sox winning run might come on a ground out in the 5th. They win the game by relentlessly making the plays for 9 innings. ESPN focuses on hero plays, like a walk off homer, to exclusion of the rest of the game. The strength of these White Sox is the rest of the game. Very good baseball, but not so good as a video clip. There is just not a lot of glitter to this team for these guys to grab hold of. No one play where a writer can wax poetic on a given player’s moral fiber. The media doesn’t know how to write about this or condense it into a 20-second clip. So they either skip the Sox or talk about Ozzie. With the White Sox the team is the star, not a couple of guys. Great job.

Tim Worrell on DL for "personal psychological"

What ever it is, I wish him the best. I'm also glad he decided to this before blowing a couple of games to the Cubs. -
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ May 7, 2005 -> 02:16 AM) I think there have been two starting staffs in the past that had 4 20 game winners. I'm almost 100 percent sure Cleveland did it in like the 70's (no clue who), and I think the Orioles did it back when Jim Palmer was heading their staff. Even considering they only had 4 man rotations back then, that's 80 wins, which is a hell of a total to try to pass. I don't recall the Indians doing it. The O's did. Palmer, Dave McNally, Mike Cuellar, and Pat Dobson were the starters that accomplished it, I believe.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 7, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) Yep... http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5114/news I don't know what Karsay's problem is, but if he can't pitch for the Yankees right now I don't want him on the Sox., The Yanks are begging for anyone that can get outs.

In addition to all the other reasons mentioned, AJ's attitude is paramount to the early success of the team. He brought a cockiness, a brashness, a chip on his shoulder that seems to be contagious to the rest of the team. The lack of that has always been our downfall in the past. AJ!

Prior to the season, I said that it was important for us to get off to good start because we are playing teams in our division. Mission f***ing accomplished!! With our pitching staff, I don't see us having any killer losing streaks. We may hit a speed bump from time to time, but I see us getting through May with close to same lead we currently have, at the worst. We should be able to maintain it, then when it comes to head to head against the Twins, then we need to kick ass. Those games will determine the division.
