QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:09 AM) Nor would he get a dime from me. We come at things from drastically different directions, but we usually end up agreeing in the long run.
  2. QUOTE(shingoisgod @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) Im not very sure about that. I like all those additions however we lost significant power in our lineup that we depended on aka lee and mags. I am really excited about our rotation though. Behind Garcia Buehrle Hernadez contreras and garland (who is now 5th in the rotations as opposed to 3rd) they may have the ability to carry them I agree. We don't know if this reconfiguration of the Chicago White Sox is going to work at all. It may go right in the crapper. Welcome to Soxtalk!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) I can't say I disagree with that assessment. If I was in charge of politics, I'd toss him out in the first purge. But Moore is a different animal than his film. There are actors and athletes whose personal life and ethics are different than mine. However, it doesn't prevent me from seeing their work and appreciating it, even paying to see it. Seinfeld is still funny even though Jerry tossed aside his wife for the babysitter. Annie Hall is still brilliant even though Woody Allen and Diane Keaton are a couple of nut jobs. Best example, is Jackson's performances any less deserving of their Grammy Awards? A lot more than Moore is in that film. I'll bet a GOPer or two snuck in. If you choose to finance Moore's next piece of garbage, then so be it. He won't get a dime from me.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) This was a garbage rumor made up by a troll. Don't waste your time on it. Thank you.
  5. QUOTE(S720 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:56 AM) Found this on the MLB White Sox forum: "BostonDirtdogs.com It seems like the Chicago Whitesox are about to aquire another former twin in Doug Mien----- there is a deal between the the redsox and whitesox that would send the whitesox Doug Mien--- and Byun ----- for Carl Everett, Ross Gload and Prospect they are supposed to get from Brewers it is suppose to go down by Wednesday" Has anyone heard anything about this? I can't believe Boston would try and reacquire Everett. Things didn't go too well the first time around. EDIT: On second thought, that trade sucks.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:50 AM) And then maybe Kerry would have won. I do think Moore cost Kerry votes, not gained any. The GOP did an excellent job of deflecting and then turning around those attacks. I cannot think of a bad misstep that W and his campaign made. Compare the GOP deflecting Moore vs. the Kerry campaign dealing with the Swift Boat vets and many a political science paper will be written. At the core is profit margin. The swift boat guys had millionaires lined up to spend millions on ads, tours, etc. Moore had millionaires lined up to make millions. Americans don't like profit in opinion. My point is that he tried to mislead the public and affect the election with bulls***. Whether he accomplished or not is moot. Michael Moore is lower than shark s***, imho.

    pain and death

You high school guys, things that you think are life and death matters of importance to you now won't mean s*** 6 months after graduation. Hang in there, it'll pass. Even the death of loved ones seems ease up on you after time. I promise.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) I am not 100% disagreeing with you on the politics but I believe it was secondary to artistic and career matters. You don't think he wanted to sell tickets to his movie? I think it had everything to do with his career as a film maker and making gobs of money. The storm of controversy, the notoriety, the selling of tickets allows his next film to be produced. Do you disagree if he was a Right Wing Nut he would have made something about the Swift Boat vets? I think his professional drive would stay the same, his style would stay the same, just the material would change. OK ... Marketing had something to do with it. I give you that. As for your other question, if he was a RWN ... Yes, he probably would have twisted and misrepresented that point of view as well.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:34 AM) I agree that passing it off as a documentary was wrong. I just believe each film, song, painting, essay, etc. should be judged on it's own merits, without explanations without gaining or losing points from marketing and "intent". If Moore would have been a Right Wing Nut instead of a Left Wing Nut imagine the Swift Boat film we would have seen. A little kid in his jammies being gunned down while holding a lolly pop. You specualte about that all you want. That scenario didn't occur. Moore trying to pass this off as a documentary during an election did occur. It has nothing to do with marketing and everything to do with politics.
  10. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) Don't you know we're making the trades not them?! I forgot! How silly of me.

Whatever was submitted to the Academy is irrelevent. He tried to pass it off to the public as a documentary.
  12. QUOTE(babybearhater @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:10 AM) I dont want to beat a dead horse, but I agree with the trade, but I would rather trade SPOD than Byrnes. Byrnes plays harder I think and would be a better addition to our team. If we could somehow trade garland and SPOD to AZ for Vasquez, that would work out for everyone. They would get a speedy center fielder and a west-coast born pitcher with some promise, and we would get an even better arm for our rotation, and still have our center fielder. The only problem is that Arizona has expressed an interest in Byrnes.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:11 AM) I agree it sucked as a documentary. Rush's show sucks as a journalist. Both are damn fine entertainment. At least with Rush, you know you are getting his OPINION. Moore attempted to pass this film off as FACT.
  14. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 08:36 AM) It isn't just the home team fans that pay for all this. Have a little class and respect, act like a professional. I'm old and cranky, but my every thought when viewing that was negative. Negative about him, about the Vikings organization, and about the NFL if they allow that. I agree. I'm hearing a lot about the Super Bowl fiasco and the TO Monday Noght thing, in comparison to this. To me that's not the issue. It was just simply an attention grabbing, classless stunt and the NFL needs to fine his ass HEAVILY. It was premeditated, as opposed to Plummer popping the bird. Nail him Tagliabue.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:07 AM) But the marketing hype should be separate from the film for awards. People can say whatever they like, but in the end, the work of art must be judged on it's own merits. Unless you have Moore whispering to you during the movie, what happens outside the movie isn't relevant. Hooray for Hollywood!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) At worst I gotta imagine it is refilling some lakes and the underground watertable right? You'd think it would have some positive impact in that regard. Maybe as the snow melts in the elevations, that will be a gradual and effective addition to the water supply.

Moore tried to pass this drivel off as a documentary when released, during the course of an election. Very similar to "Rathergate". Of course, as Moore was pressed on issues and truths, he backed away from the documentary stance.
  18. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) We threw well in Sept when put in the bullpen. Whether Beane likes Munoz or any of the Sox young players who knows. I do know Munoz has put up some good stats as far as low BB's, and avg'g about a K per inning through the minors. Also, not giving up that many HR's in his career. What is he 21, 22? I think Munoz could be a factor for the Sox this yr, if he's not traded. One of these yrs, some young sox pitchers have to make an impact, right? I assume you mean a positive impact?
  19. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 08:28 AM) That's a fairly good signing for Riccardi right there. Lilly and Shoe will give them 2 good lefties in the rotation, if Shoe can stay healthy. They're going to use him in the bullpen. Oh the irony!
  20. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 07:19 AM) the A's wouldn't trade Dotel. Even if they did, he wouldn't be worth the high price it would take to get him. The sox trading just for Byrnes is more likely That was my thought when I read that post. Wishful thinking maybe?
  21. Paul Bako signs with LA. And this note out of Houston. Imagine that! :rolly EDIT: This column is interesting. This sounds a lot like what we heard from the Sox after the ARod negotiations a few years ago. Knowing the Astros had their hands tied this offseason while trying to keep Beltran, and with what was happening on the Ordonez situation, KW was wise to wash his hands of Magglio (and any other Boras clients) and move on.
  22. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 05:40 AM) Also, if the sox work out a 3 way deal with AZ [seeing how AZ couldn't get Byrnes from the A's themselves], AZ would have to kick in some of their cash [from the yanks and dodgers deals] to the Sox with Vazquez. What the A's would want for Byrnes from the sox, who knows? Harris, Munoz or Diaz, and another prospect? I think the Byrnes/Garland for Vazquez+ is probably on the money, but the rest of it is a total speculation. We really have no clue who Beane would want.
  23. The Sox interest in Byrnes may be directly tied to the DBacks interest in him (per Rotoworld). I don't know what it would take to pry him from Oakland, but he may end up being part of a Vazquez deal if we get him.

    Hey Cali

I know this is too much water, too fast, but from I understand the resevoirs out west have had critically low volume levels. Is this helping that situation much, or is it all just wasted run-off water?
