    JK Rowlings

She's crying because her books that suck have made her wealthier the Queen Elizabeth. Hmmmm .... I wonder, if she's single?
  2. No ... But I remember growing watching "Garfield Goose and Friends" on WGN with Frazier Thomas.
  3. LOL ... Good post. You make some good points in there. All I'm going to say is that since the 2000 playoffs I have been screaming for the need to acquire a good left-handed hitter. I know KW inherited all those guys, but he's had almost 3 years to fix what to me was a glaring problem. Though he has tried (attempts to acquire Giles and Erstad) he still hasn't gotten the job done.
  4. You said plenty ... and you said it very well.
  5. I remember one thing very well. Before Veeck bought the Sox for the 2nd time, Danny Kaye, the actor, led a group that was going to buy the team and move them to Seattle. At one point, they thought it was a done deal, as Danny Kaye and Gene Autry came out of an owners meeting, arm in arm, singing "Back in Seattle Again" to the tune of Autry's signature song "Back in the Saddle Again". I never had another moments use for either one of those guys since. Still, to this day, I will not watch anything with either Gene Autry or Danny Kaye in it. Now, a name that was mentioned earlier in the thread, Jerry Janeski. IIRC he was a guy we acquired from Boston when we traded Gary Peters ( What idiot made that deal?). Seems to me that someone else was supposed to come over in that deal, but this player retired rather than come to the Sox. I can't remember the player's name, sorry. Janeski, I believe, was someone Boston sent us as compensation. That turn out to be very little compensation at all.
  6. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Encarnacion just cut loose by someone a couple of seasons ago. The Reds, I think, picked him up as an extra OF'er and brought him up from AAA after Griffey got hurt last year. Am I thinking of the same guy here?
  7. A class act. Doby always seem to carry himself with a tremendous amount of dignity. He will be missed.
  8. Loaiza will be there, I'm confident. He should be the starter also. He has been the best pictcher in the AL up to this point.
  9. This can be said for just about ever hitter drafted every year. Apparently, Anderson didn't have a problem with the wood bat during the BP session he had at Dodger Stadium. He jacked 6 long ones.

    Loduca

LoDuca is a scrapper. I've also heard he was a 6 year minor lauguer that came out of nowhere. Hmmmm .... Why does this type of player remind me of Aaron Miles?
  11. Good thinking, since I usually lean to the right.
  12. That's the bottom line .... When you cross that white line, everyone dressed in the same uniform as you is your best friend. Period. That's the way these guys should be looking at it, and acting.
  13. I thought that I might ought to clarify that for you.
  14. I'm am still in a "wait to see" mode as to whether Jiminez is an asset or liability to the club. Still sitting on the fence on this guy.
  15. He should point that out to Mark Buehrle. ouch........i suppose you didnt see the clip on the news the other day where mark said after winning, hes tryin to win the fans back???? im thinking hes very sorry for makin those comments and said so the day after.. he also said he made the comments out of frustration .. which is something im sure all of us can understand........... Athletes nowadays need to watch every word they say, because reporters are just chomping at the bit to hear them slip and say something even remotely controversial. Everything they say is going to end up in an article somewhere, and everyone needs to be congnisant of that, or they will learn the hard way like Mark is. Reporters are not only looking for someone to slip up... They try and bait them into it.

That was not intended as a knock on Mark. I think it would be helpful to him to realize is he was in Boston, NY or Philly.... He'd probably be crucified by now. For the record: I am very much a Mark Buehrle fan. That game he got hammered in and boo'ed for... I would have been trying to make him hear me say "Hang in there, Mark"

    a question

Honestly, I would prefer not to know any player's salary. I find the money aspect of the game a hinderance to the enjoyment of the game. I know it plays a big part in the structure, and therefore, the success and/or failure of a team. But, in a perfect world, money/salaries would never enter my mind when it comes to a baseball game.
  18. More from Daubach: He should point that out to Mark Buehrle.
  19. Throwing stuff on the field shows a total lack of class. Don't embarrass the rest of us Sox fans by acting like a Cublubber.
  20. When is that Series in Huntsville? I'm might zip down there for a game or two.

    Oh Bmr...

I'm pulling for you. Hope it all turns out well.
  22. Chicago probably expected a nuclear attack, just as the White Sox won it's first pennant in 40 years.
  23. They did save the Sox for Chicago, and the 'threatened' Florida move was a complete sham. Does anyone really think two guys from the TV industry would move their club from the 2nd biggest city to one in the mid 20s? The idea had been done before and not much repurcussion in other cities, so JR and EE went along with it, as it was suggested as the only way to get the funding past the downstaters by one of Thompson's assistants. The mayor was key, insisting on the location, as Thompson didn't really care one way or another, and Jerry wanted the suburbs, Addison in particular. The Chicago media has all the fans still holding it against Reinsodrf, while most other owners in other cities are heralded for their moves, and two are building or have built newer parks since their last 'holdup'. I didn't say JR doesn't want to be 'liked' by the fans, everyone wants to be liked, I said that was least important to him and his view, not the priority. I love Carlton Fisk. But understand, Fisk is a real bastard, much like me. He can be nice, but has more fun pointing out how stupid someone is. Remember too that Fisk was a bit of a freak, as most catchers cannot squat after their 35th birthday. LaRussa tried to get him to play 1st base and left field, and he threw fits, and Schu tried too, just to help extend his career. Who knew the guy could still perform behind the plate at 43 years old? Nonetheless, JR and Fisk are fine now, they've mended fences, the one who treated Pudge the way you and so many objected to was Schueler. They hate each other. JR stayed out of it, backing his GM. If you are talking about the 2000 playoffs when Fisk was turned away, and a few others, that too was Schu. I have nothing good to say about Jack McDowell, I find him to be the most despicable individual I've met in baseball. Robin was, and still is a favourite, though I think Crede is gonna make us all forget Robin a bit before he's through. It is my opinion that Ventura was not worth the $6 million we were paying him, and not worth what he's gotten since, though I am happy for him that he got it. Favourite or not, there is a point of worth, and Robin was well past it. I'd say some fans put more importance on players than they deserve, and get caught up in that. JR has not only promoted Thomas, he's protected him. But do keep in mind that pro athletes are not always the most likable people behind closed doors. Thanks for taking the time to respond to comments and questions. It is appreciated very much.
  24. I think were looking at a sweep. Excuse me, but after Padres, Royals, Tribe rookies and assorted Deadroit bums have shut us down all year long....I don't think it would be so outrageously unrealistic to think that Estes-UglyTroll-Zambrano trio can shut us down. Badly if they're on. Sorry, but our hitting coach is still terrible: our hitters are out there playing SZ goalies, reacting and covering the whole plate instead of having a strategy, picking up the ball early, zoning it in, and putting short, quality swings on it. No, instead they are guessing, overswinging and getting themselves out, and with those three going for the Cubs, if you are gonna do that you're gonna get killed. I am praying we take 2 out of 3, but we'll be lucky to win one. What have you got against Greg Walker? He hasn't had time to even get to know these guys, let alone get them to buy into his ideas. Look.. it took Cooper quite awhile last year to change the fortunes of the pitching staff. Walker deserves at least as much time to accomplish the same with our hitters.
