Read a book. It's a good way to exercise your brain.

The cork thing will come back to life when the suspension is over. Sammy will keep doing his "warning track shot" hops, striking 50% of the time and grounding singles up the middle. And of course, when he gets to US Cell .... it will be the "Cork Capitol of the World". LOL

I don't want Bobby Valentine. From what I've read (mostly from Rex) on Wally Backman, I'd be happy if they gave him a shot. I'd still love to see Fisk get it, as long as Cooper remains pitching coach. But, the one guy who might be out there after the season is over, and I think he'd be worth waiting for, is Joe Girardi. If he hangs them up as a player, I think he'd make a great manager right now. Who else is out there? Think "outside the box" and see if we can come up with some more good candidates.

It would be so much fun to get behind a pennant winner and help push it home. *sigh*

Not tonight ... We are still kicking around the 9th inning of the SF game.
-
Let me put it this way, if I'm an owner or GM and I have a manager intentionally walk the potential tying run with no outs in the 9th inning ..... I fire his ass on the spot.

You mean once having had "rooftop" power doesn't qualify you as a major league manager?
-
Didn't Navarro win 300 while he was with us?
-
I was beginning to think Frank didn't have it anymore. But, he's beginning to change my opinion.

I'm positive there is going to be more negativity.

Yes. Battier is a solid player. JWill's ex-teammate at Duke. That may pay some dividends in itself.
-
I heard they were talking about packaging Fizer and the pick to New Orleans for Battier and the 13th pick.

BMR. Since you aren't officially fired yet, you still have some hope. If the powers that be in the company start asking questions, do yourself a big favor. Answer those questions as honestly as possible. Since you are a "rising star", and if you don't BS them, you may escape from this situation with your job intact. Good luck to you.

I love to read. It hasn't been too long since I bought and reread "Ball Four" by Jim Bouton.

I'm not sure, but I think his name was Dewey Lamar Hoyt. And wasn't he related in some way to an old Yankee pitcher named Dewey Hoyt?

Keep posting these. This is great!

No, but did Mantle ever nail Marilyn Monroe? Seriously, Mickey Mantle was the greatest baseball player I ever laid eyes on.

That is the one point that nobody seems to be able to grasp.... except for us Sox fans. You know, the sceptics that don't believe the hype until they prove it on the field .... and won't settle for "competitive" or mediocre. The ones that have lived and died with this team with out even smelling a World Series... Oh, we came close a few times, but still 44 years without being in one stinking World Series!!!! Damn, I'm on rant here.... sorry.

I don't know who is right.... Time will tell. But, I sure enjoyed reading this thread.

I always thought that when we aquired Bonilla from the Pirates, it was with the understanding that he'd be sent back to them after one season. No proof, just a hunch. It was all too cozy for it not be pre-arranged.

To turn on a guy the first time he has a rough period/bad year/whatever, is rediculous. In my whole time as a Sox fan, there has only been one player that I truly did not like... Navarro. If a guy is going there trying to do his job to the best of his ability, that's all you can ask from that player at any particular time. Put yourself in MB shoes, he's pitched very very well fot 2 years, hits a rough spot and gets booed in his home park. Can you blame him? I can't .... Seems to me what he said was true .... "That is expected here". And you know, when guys get free agency eligible, they are going to bolt because of that s***, too. And, opposing players come in here and hear that s*** ... well, they aren't going to giving JR any discounts on their services when they become FA's. Maybe some of the Sox fans are as much of the problem as JR, KW, JM, etc. If you were going to go to work and get hammered by 15000 fans, would you have a good attitude?
-
LMAO .... Great line. Alas, I am right there with you in the lack of hope department. I've been a Sox for as many of my 45 years that I can remember. It seems to be a lifetime curse.

Bonds hadn't "obvisiously" figured out anything prior to that at bat.... other than he hadn't been able to touch Colon. Hindsight is 20/20 my friend.
-
Jerry made the moves that seemed right and really who can question letting Colon go into the ninth and then using Marte? It was the players that's for sure. Not JM's fault tonight. I don't get the Marte move... why not bring Marte in before the IBB knowing that Aurilia (RH hitter) is available to face Marte? If you bring him in one hitter earlier (while 1B was open), he can pitch around Aurilia himself, thus leaving him the possibility of NOT facing a dangerous hitter (RH hitter at that) with the bases loaded. Good point here. Also, letting Marte issue the IBB would qualify as his required one batter faced, then if the Giants decided to pinch hit RA at that point, JM could have made a pitching change.

No way do you walk Bonds and put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. That is inviting a game losing rally to happen. Colon had been very effective against Bonds. JM made the right call on this one.
