  1. Stupid asshole. Even though I understand there is a difference in the magnitude of the topic being discussed here, and the one in which I indirectly, but regretably, resorted to name calling, I feel that I got slammed, deservedly so, for what I said. That being said, I qoute you from that thread: And: Slam, slam, slam away then. I deserve it by my own definition. Clujer also deserves to have his balls stuck in a vice and sqeezed until his eyeballs pop out. My response was warranted. Give me the double standard lecture till the cows come home. I'd just love to know how many will jump on that wagon and IF they know any woman who has been a victim of DV. No Darlin', I don't want to slam you. I just wanted the opportunity to point out that when a person reads something that hits them wrong, that person sometimes reacts in a way that they normally wouldn't. That's what happened in my case. I know I was in the wrong, and I've apologized for my actions. I couldn't undo it at that point, or I would have. I felt that even though I was trying to make amends and undo the damage as much as possible, I was not being heard and was afraid that all the good will I had built up in here would be lost over one stupid mistake on my part.
  2. I knew you were going to buck me on this one. Your point on the KW hiring. Yes, now that you mention it, I do recall that happening. As for Pax over BJ. BJ was the asst GM, and Pax was a broadcaster. You'd have to assume that BJ would have been the heir-apparent under those circumstances. I hope, like you say, that eventually MLB gets to that point too. I'm not a racist, cwsox. I am, however, tired of the race card being played at the drop of a hat. I'll be glad when things progress to a point that the race card becomes a non-issue.
  3. How's he supposed to handle it? How about the way McGwire handled hitting 70. How about the way Ripken handled breaking Gehrig's Iron Man mark. With class and dignity and respect, instead of me, me, me. I don't dislike Sosa because he's a Cub. I dislike him because he had enough talent to be a great five tool baseball player, and he sacrificed all that to become a slugger and only a slugger. I dislike him because he's a showboat that is not interested in being the best player he can be to help his team win. And if you doubt that, go back to Don Baylor's first spring training as manager of the Cubs. He wanted Sosa to go back to being a baseball player instead of a slugger. The Cubs management backed Sosa, and Baylor lost all credibilty as manager. Which, as a result, undermined his effectiveness as manager and negatively affected the success of the team. Again, it was all about Sammy. I wouldn't care if he was a Tampa Bay Devil Ray instead of a Cub. I dislike ballplayers that are more interested in their own glory than the success of their team.

  5. Whether the "media" would or not, if JM or KW is fired and replaced by a white man, there will be grumbles that it was racially motivated. I can give an example of the type that happens. When Ron Schuler was replaced by Kenny Williams, over the heir-apparent, Dan Evans, there was never a word uttered. When Jerry Krause was replaced by John Paxson over heir-apparent BJ Armstrong, the grumblins did occur that BJ did not get the job because he was black. Yet this was the same owner in both situations. And this owner had already proven he was more than willing to hire minorities to positions of authority.

    Sosa

The picture of Sosa as the bat splinters clearly shows the the fact that bat was stained or painter till right above his hands. One of the local scribes said that Sosa switched from a blonde bat to a dark bat late in the previous game. I'd really like to see that last at bat of the previous game to see if it was the same bat.... and why doesn't anyone in the media think to check this angle out.
  7. Blowing this out of proportion? I beg to differ. This joker has built a career out of self promotion. Blowing kisses to the TV camera, doing his little hop after a home run. Hugging Mark McGwire after Mac had just homered against Sammy's own team. He did all this to bring attention to himself. Well, now he's got plenty of it. What goes around, comes around.
  8. After Sammy's fiasco tonight, the Cub's "magical" season may have just come to a screeching halt.
  9. I also remember the doubleheader against KC. I remember being so down because because we lost to a rookie pitcher with a very strange name..... Blue Moon Odom. Of course, he went on to become a very good pitcher.
  10. D'Backs & Dodgers ... we are not going to see Johnson, Schilling or Brown. Still, we'll come home 0-6. Mark my words.

    Manuel

JR style... now there's an oxymoron if I ever heard one.
  12. I stake my claim on Sept 20th.
  13. No that is idea I have never thought of... and you know what? It's a damn good one. JR has been a Selig buddy for many years, maybe MLB will buy him out, contract the Sox and then move the Spo's to Chicago to become a new fresh version of the White Sox. This might actually be doable. (sorry, Steff, I couldn't resist )
  14. Could you expand on this please. Who slid that we drafted? Where were they projected to go in the draft. I'd be interested in more details. If these guys did slide because of monetary demands, and we drafted them, it may be they JR is actually planning to spend some money to develope a great farm system. Since he won't spend money on a great GM that can make great trades.
  15. Don't forget 1968. After collasping in the last week of '67 when we were so damn close. The '68 team just sucked. And if I got my facts straight, we traded 1966 ROY Tommie Agee for Tommy Davis, and Davis hit about as well as Konerko is this year. Of course, Agee was a solid CF for the 1969 World Series Champion Mets.
  16. It seems JR was quick to "urge" Torborg out, and quick to pull the trigger on Lamont. The difference between them and Bevington and Manual... they were successful. I don't understand this guy at all.
  17. Is that 4 games in a row that we have lost late inning leads, and eventually the game? This team is playing scared. They are waiting for the inevitable to happen to them, like Jiminez botching that DP ball that allowed the tying run to score. It always something.
  18. We've been calling him SamME and ShamME for so long, and this justifies it. To Sosa, it's all about "ME".
  19. I agree the management end of the club needs revamped. I was talking about talent. We have a decent rotation, and the potential for a good bullpen. With these players in our starting lineup, Olivo, Crede, Jiminez, Lee, Borchard, Maggs ... that is a good foundation. Thomas, Konerko, Valentin, Daubach, Rios, White have to go. Koch and Gordon should have some trade value.... if so, let's pull the trigger. We need a good defensive middle infielder that can contribute with the bat and a solid LH hitting out fielder or 1B that can actually run faster than a my 94 year old grandmother. If we come up with the 1B, keep the outfield as is. If we get an OF, move Lee to first and play Borchard in CF or LF depending on who that new player is. Get a good defensive middle infielder, and play Jimenez in the off postion of the acquired Infielder. Bring up the young relievers that everyone raves about to fill out the bullpen. Basically... two starting position players is all we have to acquire .... every thing else would be for depth. As I said, not that far away, talent wise.
  20. If Paulie was under the scrutiny that Frank is/was/will be under, I doubt he would act the same way he is acting. There's virtually no pressure on Paulie, because there are 3 or 4 guys that are more popular on the team than he is (Frank, Magglio, Colon, and arguably Koch and Buehrle). Konerko is, for the most part, playing AWFUL and it's going pretty much unnoticed from the rest of the baseball world. They are starting to notice Konerko's lack of production. Bob Valvano and Rob Neyer were talking about it tonight on ESPN radio.
  21. The challenge to get the first pick in next year's ammy draft?
