  1. A closer who has not pitched much lately in a non save situation in wet conditions makes me extremely nervous, I would hope Juan can get us a couple more here. ARGH, here we go.
  2. This has been about as strange a regular season game as I can remember.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 20, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) No, fans like you are making it a BIG BIG problem that doesnt exist. Yes they have been horrible this one series but who cares. I bet they come out against Oakland and fix their s***. Well of course they will, Oakland's offense is pretty poor. Other than Jack Cust of course, he's amazing. And the bullpen ERA is in the bottom 3rd of the league, despite the fact they haven't been even close to overused this year. And this series, yeah, it's a big problem.
  4. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 20, 2007 -> 04:22 PM) No offspeed stuff? What type of pitch did he get Soriano out on? Must have been a fastball I guess -- apparently fastballs come in at 83 and drop. I forgot, I don't agree with you, so I'm (your?) an idiot. Is he inconsistent with his breaking stuff? Sure. That's not what you're saying, though. That was the first off speed pitch I had seen from him in 4 outings. If he threw it more, we might have something. But in his 70 some odd innings the last 2 years, he has barely thrown it at all.
  5. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 20, 2007 -> 04:20 PM) Also, why the f*** did they end that montage w/ the Marte walk walk-off? Anytime I see him, I think of how much he should thank El Duque daily. Everybody remembers the mess he got out of, but nobody remembers it was created by Marte and the incredibly dumb decision to bring him in at all in that spot. Luckily, Marte wasn't seen again after that until we had to get him out there in the 14 inning game, so we learned our lesson.
  6. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 20, 2007 -> 04:19 PM) In 2006 he pitched 53 innings with the Cubs. That's a large sample? Oh, right, now I remember who I'm talking to. So 53 innings of up and down pitching with no off speed stuff is not relevant? When he's doing the same thing this year? I see.....well ok, whatever you say!
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 20, 2007 -> 04:19 PM) Carlos Lee = juiced? He's the one guy from those early 2000's teams I was always curious about. But if I had to guess with a gun to my head, I'd say no.
  8. BTW, I found that worst throw ever. For those of you who have MLB TV, it was the April 21st game between the Nationals and Marlins in Miami. Lefty Matt Chico threw the pitch in the first inning, and it actually landed 3 rows above the 1st base dugout. That, is THE worst throw ever. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 20, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) What does this have to do with anything? Career norms? What career norms? The 63 innings he pitched in the bigs prior to this year? Did you see him last year? It's actually what he did, very inconsistent stretches good and bad, 1 pitch pitcher. And he pitched a large sample size last year.
  9. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 20, 2007 -> 04:07 PM) any chance that this game is called and the Sox get the W? Not unless the radar is wrong, but then again that is possible. And how can you say a career AAA pitcher with a double A start to his last name, that has only 1 real pitch and is reverting back to career norms after a career month going against a league that has NEVER seen him shouldn't be even thought of to be sent down. People always seem to forget the new league factor, which is a big part of how Aardsma had been so good IMO (same goes for Lilly with the Cubs). (And i'm not talking to you BearSox, just in general to whoever did say it).
  10. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 20, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) Come on Wille, you have been here long enough to know there WILL be posters that will be calling for Danks head, saying the trade was bad, and Danks shouldnt be up here. Nobody is THAT nuts. Danks has been amazing despite never pitching in triple a, and Masset had a start today that might have been better than any B Mac has had all year. There is a difference between over the top panic, disagreeable criticism, and flat out stupidity.
  11. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 20, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) I wonder if anyone on this board still think Zambrano is second only to Johan Santana. We b**** about Dye and Iguchi not performing in their contract years, how about Zambrano? People forget that although Zambrano had a 4-1 record against us coming into today, he also had an ERA of about 4 and a half. Record isn't everything with pitchers.
  12. Rain delay. This game has officially had some of everything.
  13. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 20, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) He is 25 years old, and doesn't even have 100 IP yet in this league. There are going to be rough spots. Same with Masset, same with Sisco, same with Boone, and same with Danks. I am already dreading the time when Danks has back to back rough starts. It WILL happen this season, and I promise there will be people wanting him sent down. Give it a rest sometimes. Danks has the pediagree to be good, so you stick with him. Masset is not a bullpen guy as we saw today, so I can lay off him. Boone is a LOOGY right now, and got burned by a righty last night because of our manager. Sisco and Aardsma have track records, Sisco can't throw strikes and Aardsma has only 1 pitch under most circumstances. It is what it is.
  14. Aardsma and Sisco have turned into exactly what they truly are, which is bad. I hope we have a backup plan out there. Right now, we have Mac who will be fine I think, Thornton is waking up, Bobby is Bobby, and Logan is a LOOGY. After that, Sisco is bad, Aardsma has 1 pitch, Masset is a starter who turns into McCarthy in the pen. This is a big problem.
  15. QUOTE(rangercal @ May 20, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) so we both agree he hasn't jumped off a bridge just yet. You may beg to differ, but I don't think he will make any major moves until July. I even said yesterday nothing is going to happen until July, and shouldn't happen, no matter how much I panic. We may be horrible right now, but you can't firesale in May. Even I know that.
  16. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 20, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) I usually don't do it, but you guys need to relax. Aardsma and Mac were probably two of the best relievers in baseball in April, now there are serious posts of having them sent to Charlotte. Relax. Mac will be fine, I agree. Aardsma is a mediocre pitcher with 1 pitch reverting to career norms. There is reason to panic there.
  17. This has turned into a BIG BIG problem.
  18. QUOTE(rangercal @ May 20, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) He was just trying to wake the team up. You know Kenny better than that. It's a mix of concern and trying to wake them up probably.
  19. Is the offense awake? I think it's possible. Is the bullpen dead? I think it's possible. 1 problem starts to improve, another shows up. Argh.
  20. Looks like a lot of people on this board were right all along saying the AAArdsma for Cotts trade was simply crap for crap. I remember admitting I was a complete fool for saying that Aardsma and Sisco should not make the team. I now take that one back.
  21. QUOTE(rangercal @ May 20, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) Maybe we should wait until our offense is at full strength before we jump off any buildings? Damn it felt good watching Thome pick up that bat. That ignores the fact that our GM doesn't agree with you. Today was nice though.
  22. Amazing what happens when you throw something other than a fastball, isn't it David?
  23. So a lost series at Wrigley to a below .500 series proves something since we weren't swept? Our GM doesn't agree with you.
  24. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AnLO...p&type=lgns I think he's overreacting. Everything will be fine.
  25. BTW, if you want the worst throw ever, it happened earlier this year. It was a pitch by a guy on the Washington Nationals against the Marlins in Florida during April. I can't even remember if the pitcher was lefty or right, but his pitch went directly sideways, and landed in the 1st row above the 1st base dugout. That one can't be topped.
