  1. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:36 PM) 21 pitches Isn't it sad we not only need quality outings from our pitchers, but it also seems we need 7 innings minimum with our pen? *Sighs*
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:34 PM) One bad read...big whoops. It sucked and it could have bit the Sox but the guy has played superb in center. In terms of defense, he's our 3rd best defensive CF in the last 3 years. Now I know that's a high standard, but 3rd best out of 3 years does not equal superb.
  3. lol at Hawk praising Erstad, then he extends an inning on a brutal misread. And not coincidentally, Danks stops screwing around with the curveball and gets out of the inning.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ May 28, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) Freddy's been pitching much better, and he did well tonight. He was never going to be the ace for a team that traded for him....but he sure had some value left. Well yeah, but he's no better than any of our 5 starters right now, and he'd have been gone after this year. Obviously we could have got more for him, but it makes no difference we don't have him unless he could pitch middle relief.
  5. QUOTE(Brian @ May 29, 2007 -> 08:48 AM) I'm totally unbiased on these two series, but it seemed last night if Duncan got breathed on, a foul was called. Some calls was after a little weak contact but than other times when there is more noticable contact, nothing is called. Refs just need to be consistent. I don't know if Ginobli flops. He goes hard to the basket and uses his body to take contact. When he leads with the knee, like he did last night a few times, refs should notice that. Well this isn't a case where there is tangible evidence the players had the chance to decide a series taken away from them like in the Suns joke, and like I said SA was up 1 going to the 4th so obviously they could have definitely won anyways. But that 4th quarter was a joke, there is no way SA played 25 to 2 free throw attempth advantage basketball for those 12 minutes, or even close. And Ginobili had a lot of problems in the first 3 quarters last night, so he just flopped everytime. I don't blame him, hey he got the calls and it was a big reason why they won, but the refs have to be smarter than that. That is unless they want to call it that way like it looked. Again, if the NBA doesn't want people to say games are fixed, quit giving them ammo like the 4th quarter last night to do it.
  6. The NBA really has the Spurs back. SA only makes 28 fields goals all night last night and is up by a mere 1 point heading to the 4th, so what do the refs do? Well they pull a 25 to 2 free throw attempt edge in the 4th quarter out of their asses for San Antonio, and turn a quarter full of laughable flops by Manu Ginobili into 11 foul shot attempts for him alone. What a joke.
  7. His season last year was one of the worst I've ever seen at any level, and I'd still contest he cost us a playoff spot. However this year, he hasn't been bad at all. Ozzie always has and always will leave starting pitchers in too long, but with this bullpen, can you blame him?? At least he had 3 really good arms for almost all of last year, right now other than Jenks and somewhat Thornton, our entire bullpen are GM was supposed to fix was crap. Beyond that, my issues with Ozzie this year are things like wanting Andy Gonzalez on the 25 and such, but those are philosophy issues and not in game managing ones. He has the 3rd best team in the AL Central and that is where we are in the standings. No surprise. If his GM would do what he said he would and fix the damn bullpen maybe we could get Ozzie to a point where it's "his fault", but that's a long way off.
  8. Fell to 1-4 with an ERA still in that 4 and a half to 5 range. Looks like we got exactly what we paid for in this trade, although he did have more value than that and will probably get a Marquis esque payday this offseason at minimum even if he bombs out.
  9. Bailey is 5-1 with a 1.89 in triple A and really still can barely control any of his breaking stuff. He's going to be a nightmare in a couple years when he has his stuff figured out. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 28, 2007 -> 10:06 PM) CHARLOTTE HAS NO ONE ELSE TO PLAY THE MIDDLE INFIELD That is what I thought about Fields at SS too, although with Uribe's play lately, you never know.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ May 28, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) - I'd like to give kudos to Mackowiak for playing through pain right now. It's obvious that he's in pain with almost every baseball move he has to make. However, he's out there busting his ass more than anyone. - For all the talk of how good Uribe has looked this year, he's having a worse year statistically than last year. His average is almost below .200 now. It's really looking like we need a new 2b/SS combo next year. - What is up with the velocity drop for Santana and Carlos Zambrano this season? Are they trying to addition for a spot with the White Sox in future seasons? Agreed on all counts, although in regards to the velocity, maybe it's just me but it seems like velocity is down leaguewide this year in the AL and NL, no matter who is pitching. Maybe it's the radar guns and/or lack of amphetamines?
  11. Well this bullpen is a joke and somehow worse than last year. The offense did as good a job as you can expect against Johan, but with this bullpen, Jose CAN'T just lose his focus like that. Actually, 7 of their first 8 runs can be atributed in large part to braincramps by Jose (the Boone pitch to get Morneau should have been the 3rd out, and we all saw the 2nd inning meltdown), so really you can't do that no matter what the bullpen is doing. Today's loss is about 80 percent on Count IMO. And I've seen the replay 4 times and still don't know what A.J. did.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 28, 2007 -> 01:32 PM) I just want to say that I hope someone puts Mike Vick in a cage and lets those dogs go to town on him. What a sick f***...I hope he gets jail time, gets suspended by the NFL and has the entire world turn on "Mike Vick". I dislike him more than any other player in the NFL now. That about sums it up.
  13. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 28, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) Even so, we're not exactly in a position to give up starting pitching prospects. Especially considering Williams' stance on long term deals and the complete lack of international scouting. De Los Santos nonwithstanding. I've held a belief that a legitimate ace should be on this ballclub by 2010. Preferably from Venezuela. If we can't take advantage of the 2005 World Series and Guillen's popularity, whomever is working out there deserves to be fired. If Fields, Anderson, Sweeney, etc. haven't improved for next season, when their presence could be vital to obtaining other players, then it may be time to gut everything sooner. Whatever you say Dusty, I guess American pitchers just aren't good enough. That Peavy guy sucks since he was born within our borders.
  14. A weird combo....a somewhat inspired callup in a gay like Day who has the stuff to get major league hitters out (those yearning for Prinz make me laugh, he's nothing) and also a pathetic callup to pander to Ozzie in Gonzalez.
  15. QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 28, 2007 -> 04:21 PM) lol, i noticed that too wtf was that all about? Hopefully it's a sign that he's coming here this offseason. Anyways, 7 of the 8 runs scored in the 2nd and 6th inning can be placed on brainfarts by Contreras (hit the 8 hitter and allow a hit to the 9 hitter with 2 outs nobody on to start a rally? Don't cover 1st? Please), but beyond that, it is what it is. 1/3 of our lineup was awesome and 2/3 pathetic, but thusly, 4 runs in 8 innings is as good as we are going to do against Johan. And our bullpen is what it is, that is the thing that will keep us from having any shot at better than 3rd in the Central. Unless that pen is fixed and we get our heads out of our asses, it's countdown to Bearbounais time.
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 27, 2007 -> 06:15 PM) I disagree. The Sox should start converting him into a starter again, and keep him down at Charlotte for the rest of the season while he "irons out the kinks". He has more value as a starter for us down the line I think. You could then use Broadway or McCullough to acquire a lefty reliever if you're desperate, but hopefully one of the guys we call up can do the job in the mean-time. Do you think he could ever have the consistent control to be a starter? I gotta go with fathom on this, figure out a way for him to get his velocity back to the upper 90's and get it over the plate enough to get people out in relief. There are way too many things to take care of for him to be a starter.
  17. Depends how you look at the word "overrated". In the sense he's become more of a home run or nothing hitter and isn't nearly as good a fielder as he was 5 years ago, yeah he is overrated. But he's still a pretty darn good fielder and still a dangerous hitter, despite the slow start this year. He's also going to retire with at least a dozen gold gloves and a bust in Cooperstown that nobody will argue with. All depends on howyou look at the word overrated IMO.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2007 -> 05:48 PM) I wasn't worried about the 2008 and 2009 seasons going into the offseason. I think everyone on here knows that the window with the Konerko, Buehrle, Crede, Garland core was closing after 2007. Our division is just too loaded for the next few years to think we won't have to rebuild and not be a WS contender for a few years. I just hope we don't go back into the sick cycle of management saying we will spend if you show up, and fans saying we'll show up if you spend, a trend that was only reversed (at least for now) by something as great as 2005.
  19. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 27, 2007 -> 12:04 AM) Because Sunday is a getaway day, the choice was between a true double header (1 ticket, two games) and a rescheduled game, the Sox were going to choose the one that provided more revenue everytime. They've got a guaranteed 20K with their season ticket base for the reschedule, and can count out 5-10K more, which is 25-30K more tickets sold than in the double header situation. All those points are realistically understood, but they could have definitely played last night. And no, I don't blame Ozzie, he didn't want this game rescheduled for August either (that's not to you, it's a general statement). It's just a pretty crappy way to treat fans in the sense they reschedule the Yankee rainout as part of a doubleheader and give the fans who had their game rained out the option to get one of a bunch of other games, and last nights game is rained out and you either get to go to a Monday afternoon game in late August or no game at all. Sucks when it's all about money though I guess.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2007 -> 05:45 PM) Not acquiring more major league talent this offseason is really coming back to hurt us. We're having to dig deep into our minor league system now, and those guys are never ready to contribute right away. Certainly, and considering the people we have up to make big money or become free agents in the next couple of years, things aren't getting any better in that regard.
  21. Well intead of panicking like I usually do, I'll be more logical. Today's game was really a microcosim of everything wrong with us (horrible bullpen that I THOUGHT Kenny said he fixed, a lineup that cannot excecute productive outs with 1st and 2nd 0 out and 2nd and 3rd 1 out, no speed, poor managing). Now I still think we will eventually hit and that Thornton is ok, but in a division this tough, we have no shot at any better than 85 to 88 wins and 3rd place with this bullpen and this poorly balanced of a lineup. Obviously, Sisco being gone and MacDougal maybe going to the DL with a case of bad helps, but we still need to find somebody that can get outs in that pen. Maybe we should make Masset pretend he's always coming in as a starter.
  22. Yeah he's hurt....he's got a bad case of "bad" and should probably go on the DL to fix it.
  23. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ May 25, 2007 -> 01:33 AM) You say that like you knew Crede would blow so bad before the season started. Last year was a numerical fluke offensively, the regression to the means this year was inevitable for Joe. And he has a bad back. And he's due to get a big payday after next year. There was no reason to keep him.
  24. I'm about ready to proclaim Fields the best 3B in our entire system right now. Why oh why didn't we trade #24, we could have got something so nice for him to help us out and we had Fields ready.
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ May 26, 2007 -> 07:53 PM) Really stupid to not try and get a DH in tomorrow. We keep missing bad pitchers due to the rain outs, like Ponson and now Jackson. This is about as good of news as the fact that Halladay has made a dramatic recovery and will return 3 weeks early to face the Sox next week. We're facing some pretty nasty starting pitching. And we have 19 games in 19 days in late August now AND we avoid a bad pitcher AND they could have started tonight at 8:30 easily AND they reschedule it for a Monday afternoon that nobody will show up AND all the fans going tonight got screwed since the tickets are only good for that very difficult to attend makeup date and time. Worst handeled rainout I've ever seen us have.
