  1. QUOTE(AirScott @ May 31, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) His nickname is Doc. Maybe it has something to do with setting hitters up and getting them off balance. Might that be a key component of his success? His control is also a strong point...so normally if you let him throw you a pitch or two, you're looking at 0-2. Well we are being shut out through 5, and his 58 pitch count has CG SHO written all over it, so obviously their strategy is working to perfection.
  2. QUOTE(TheOcho @ May 31, 2007 -> 07:03 PM) Anyone see any good movies lately? That movie "knocked up" is supposed to be really funny, and it has the only hot doctor from Grey's Anatomy. Nice inning guys.
  3. A.J. trying to steal. That is really smart baseball right there. EDIT: Ahh hit and run. Still really bad.
  4. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 31, 2007 -> 06:59 PM) Grinderstad is slugging .319 in the month of May (not including today.) AND HE HAD A 13 GAME HITTING STREAK. Pathetic Well he does grind, hit for average, and is our best fielder the last 3 years. Don't hate. *insert throw up logo here*
  5. QUOTE(G&T @ May 31, 2007 -> 06:56 PM) According to the Jays broadcast, swinging early in the count is the only way to get to Halladay. Figure I'd throw that out there. It's also a good way to never see a pitcher other than Halladay. But making him throw a minimal workload coming off a near 3 week layoff is a good idea now that I think about it.
  6. We're going to have another loss by quarter to 8 at this pace.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2007 -> 06:42 PM) Have you seen Owens play? I laugh at everyone thinking how he'll come up here and make a big difference. Mackowiak's actually been hitting well lately....it's just his base running has been idiotic. Erstad running in that situation is so stupid, it's not even funny. If Iguchi strikes out or pops up, then you take the bat out of Thome's hands if Erstad is safe at 2nd. That's a perfect example of how Ozzieball is incredibly worthless with this personnel. I'd rather see Owens than the 31 year old converted infielder on 1 leg. My apologies.
  8. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ May 31, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) Yeah well you avoid the sweep if: - he gets Hunter out in a nonsave situation where he typically performs poorly Well that's true. Jenks only threw a scoreless inning in a non save spot to get us a win his last outing, and pitched a scorless 9th in his 3rd most recent outing, also a non save spot, just as it was on opening day when he threw a scoreless inning. If your going to make an argument, at least have good facts.
  9. Where is Jerry Owens? I KNOW Mackowiak is embarassing, at least give Owens a chance to prove if he is or not.
  10. That was the grinder thing to do, smart play. All you can do is laugh. We're not any good, so your going to kill youself by caring. So just laugh. And D.J. "nothing done wrong by the Sox here, Toronto has just made 2 great plays". Are you watching the game sir?
  11. He's on the exact career path of his mentor, Mr. Pitino. At least the Magic have SOME talent though. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 31, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) Probably Anthony Grant of VCU. Yep, I bet they've already contacted him.
  12. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...b&fext=.jsp Boy the Padres proved all the critics wrong by reaching to take the local kid over Verlander, Humber, Bailey, Drew, Weaver, Niemann, Sowers, etc etc. Whoops.
  13. lol @ the turn in this thread. At least Jenks is freseh for the save chances he never gets.
  14. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 31, 2007 -> 11:17 AM) I'm just of the theory that this team needs a shakeup, the type of move that wakes everyone up and puts the players on notice and I think Ozzie can only do so much in that department, the onus really does fall on Kenny at this point (whether that is Walker going or the team getting rid of one of its regular's and making a roster change). This team needs some youth because while youth is inconsistent, it can also create things that this slow/sluggish team can't do. And I think the reality is Ozzie has to get frustrated because this is the second straight year he's managing an offense that completely doesn't fit his style (and we can argue whether his style is right or wrong, but I've said all along you got to give a manager what he likes. I agree we will improve with the proper shakeup, but it will take more than that to finish 2nd in this division. Agreed with everything else though, the fact Jerry Owens isn't in LF and hitting leadoff for us right now, when you take into account the year he's having, his age, and our injury problems, is pretty strange to me. And the fact we haven't already blown up the bullpen (that's the one thing we all know sucks) is also strange to me considering their salaries, age, and arbitration status. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ May 31, 2007 -> 11:22 AM) Ahh posts like yours make me realize how many people just don't know the game that well and lots of them post on message boards. Here are the words you use: asinine, common sense, managing nonsense, acceptable. Do they teach you in Dekalb that all those words are subjective? Open to interpretation? Opinion based? It has nothing to do with loving Ozzie. Did I say that, did you read that? No. All I said was it was defended yesterday, at length. Doesn't mean that defense was 100% right, or 100% wrong. It was defended, you said it couldn't be defended. I told you that was incorrect. It's really simple, don't read into things that werent said. Now you may go back to your regularly scheduled looking for things to bash Guillen about. How can you call the 9th yesterday up for debate? It was horribly managed and a big reason why the game didn't go extras, and leaving your best bullet in the holster when it's based loaded 2 outs for Torii Hunter is one of the worst moves I've ever seen Ozzie make. But again, how am I a Guillen basher when I'm telling you KW and Wilder are higher on the firing squad totem pole, as are many of the players, than Ozzie at the moment?
  15. I would guess 2 or 3 of the most important players to our future are not in the organization yet. That is assuming Kenny does the right thing in July.
  16. So we're going to turn a guy who left a voicemail for his wife threatening to kill her and their kid and who has had 5 kids with 3 women and a long history of legal problems a victim for racism because he's black? HA, I love ignorance.
  17. It was a brilliant ploy that worked to perfection and the Blue Jays can't stop whining about it. I still don't get why people hate on A-Rod for the Arroyo play in the '04 ALCS, people forget he ALMOST got away with it and that would have changed the entire complexion of that game. You do whatever it takes to win, period.
  18. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ May 31, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) No, in your mind it was wrong, that doesn't mean it can't be defended. It was defended at length yesterday. If you disagree that's fine, but saying it can't be defended is incorrect. Ahh posts like these make me think people will still love Ozzie even when he does leave scorched earth. To defend his 9th inning work yesterday is asinine. Is it his fault we blew a 5 run lead, or that our 9th inning defense sucked? Of course not, but that is never ANY managers fault. All a manger can do is use common sense strategy to put his team in the best spot to win, and Ozzie doesn't do that, and certainly didn't yesterday by not using our only good right handed RP in the 9th inning when Jenks hasn't been used hardly at all lately. The majority of this teams problem is lack of talent, which is why KW and Wilder are on a much hotter seat than Guillen this year, but that doesn't make Ozzie's managing nonsense any more acceptable.
  19. I can say this though: 1. Ozzie will never quit. 2. He will leave this town scorched earth when he is fired one day, and make a lot of the people that still like him change their mind.
  20. QUOTE(rafacosta @ May 31, 2007 -> 11:00 AM) For the fans here is like this...it is too easy to fire a manager than fireing the whole team... It is not Guillen's fault that Aardsma was reliable in the beginning of the season and he now sucks. It is not Guillen's fault that the offense saucked so bad in the beginning of the season and now it looks it is coming out of its misery. My point is...blame on the players...bunch of underachievers... I agree with all of that, but Ozzie putting Aardsma in instead of Jenks yesterday, as well as putting MacDougal in to start the 9th simply can't be defended.
  21. It takes a team effort for a start this horrid. It's on everybody right now. The thing is, you can't just fire all the players, so everybody calls for the head of the hitting coach and manager. If we are going to fire anybody, it should be Wilder and KW with the lack of overall talent in our system. Last year's problem was the manager and pitching, this years problem is our lack of talent level makes it impossible to blame the manager, even if he's not very good.
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 31, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) Ozzie and Da Coach seem to be on the same career path. I think we all know it will be Ozzie's mouth that would get him fired before his team's performance. Using the same Walker yardstick, I don't know howa fan could demand Walker's head and not Coops and Ozzies. Ozzie has always seemed erratic, I wonder what the root is? ^^^^^^^ Regardless of what anybody thinks of Ditka or Ozzie, I think most would agree with you here. The thing is, didn't Ditka coach the Bears for like 10 years? I can't see Ozzie lasting a decade here, he's barely a third of the way there.
  23. QUOTE(Wedge @ May 30, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) Kobe is apparently demanding a trade from the Lakers. Does this affect the Bulls at all? Only if the Bulls are willing to give up Deng, Gordon, and the #9 pick in the draft.
