QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:36 PM) Cotts in to give us no chance. He's clearly the worst pitcher on our roster right now, followed by Garcia and Vazquez. Garcia has shown signs of adequacy lately, so he's a distant 3rd. Cotts and Vasquez are having a hellbent battle for worst pitcher though, one always trying to top the other.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) Now Hawk and DJ are Cying up Runnynose. There is a reason I watch the games on mute as much as I possibly can. And that won't change until Hawk is gone, I have hope D.J. will give me a straight opinion without Hawk's propaganda pro-Sox opinion by his side. Good start to this inning, Neal.

Cotts is so awful right now, hopefully he doesn't put this one out of reach.

QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:29 PM) I won't miss Vazquez...the guy proved again tonight he's a turd. Dude is the perfect STOPPER.... Kenny is a great GM, but he blew it with that guy although the jury is still out on Chris Young. Chris Young could never play a major league game and that trade hurt us. If we miss the playoffs this year, a large part of it will be the constant Javy 6th inning meltdowns.

Nice AB Paulie!! Loops out to LF on the first pitch from a guy with as much control as an 85 year old man's bladder. I'm embarassed.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:25 PM) I always thought speed/slap hitters were supposed to make a lot of contact. I'll probably get ridiculed for saying this, but I'd rather have Pierre than Pods. I'd rather have neither. I'd rather have an everyday OF that can do more than run. Tying run up now after Thome walks. Come on PK, please. EDIT: Here comes Burgos. Would be fitting if he picks up the 4 out save easily.
-
The Giordano's delivery of the game is the play at the plate that ended the 5th. Fitting since Cora may have delivered KC a victory with that call to send the runner.
-
They might just let fat man finish this game. All he should do is keep throwing changeups until we ground out, pop up, or whiff. Pretty easy.
-
Pods takes a hanging breaking ball for strike 3. In other news, the sun rose this morning and people in the middle east are mad at each other.
-
Nice pitch on Sanders there. 2.2 innings of great work by Riske to keep us in this one. Offense needs to wake the hell up now, for the love of God top of the order, get something started.
-
DLW to Sweeney, not a good start, those kill you every time late in games.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:09 PM) Looking at a broader point of view, isn't it amazing how similar so many of Vazquez's outings are? It's like a bad movie on rerun. Well it's simple really....you either let him pitch 5, then take him out for B-Mac who pitches an inning or two, or you take him out of the rotation. Unless of course, we're stubborn and want to keep giving games away. Nice job BA, swinging at ball 4 there. Not like we need baserunners. Now I will say this, this would be nowhere near the worst or most painful loss of the year, however this might be the worst game we've played all year.

Twins lead 4-0 going to the 9th, so we return to a 2 game lead in the WC race if we lose. Nice AB Juan!! We look IN A HURRY to get home and in bed tonight.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) It goes to show how far pitching performances have slipped to still be called good. Some people still love Vazquez but thought Danny Wright sucked. Wright had a 5.18 ERA in 2002 and won 14 games for a team not nearly as good as this one. I believe Danny's paycheck was $220,000 total that year. Bingo. ERA's and win totals that are VERY similar to what Javy will end up with this year. Nice at bat there Joe!!!
-
Tigers win, bad news. But the Red Sox lose, which is more important than the Tigers result, regardless of what people say around here.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:00 PM) If we do lose this game though, who's starting the Congratulatory thread for Javy? Javy=Danny Wright with a much bigger contract. Or actually, at least Javy is usually good for 5 innings I guess, so maybe he's a bit better.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) Rank the Sox Killers: Grudz, Sweeney, Emil Brown, Javy Vazquez, Joey Cora, Mark Tehan #1 on this list is without question any pitcher that throws a changeup.
-
I'd say we look like the Cubs tonight, but we look FAR worse than that.
-
Tonight's fun fact: A Royals win would mean 13 percent of their road win total will have come against us.
-
If the other teams pitchers threw us all changeups every game, we'd be in the bottom 3rd of baseball in runs scored. I've never seen a team so pathetic at handeling that pitch in my life. We better win this game though, or else we have 2 must wins in a row coming up for those of you who want the division.
-
Well I'm sure glad we sent the runner last inning, not like a single from PK would have mattered in that spot. And JD swings at ball 4. This is corpseball, hopefully we wake up.
-
Well the offense will be fine and I think we won't end up with 2 tonight, but the fact that 5 and dive Javy is officially back is not good news. He should NEVER pitch past the 5th ever, that Toronto game was an abberation. And although with that said, that Dye error and having 2 runs in 5 innings off the worst SP in baseball shows the lack of focus showed up 1 day late.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) One crazy ass 3-day period (circa 1996): 4:30 am: leave downtown Chicago for St. Charles 6:00 am: Call time 8:00 am: Shoot begins 6:00 pm: Shoot ends and set up for next day begins... 2:00 am: Head back to Chicago 4:30 am: Leave Chicago for St. Charles etc., etc. for three days. Now THAT is a crazy ass couple of days. and I was working...you at least got to go to a Sox game and get some sleep. Yeah, I've had a couple 27 hour periods where I didn't sleep at all, but those were aided in my days of over enjoying liquid courage.
-
QUOTE(mreye @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) I'm sorry. Am I missing something? You slept until 11:00 and got a total of about 9 hours of sleep and I should feel sorry for you? I must be getting old. Haha of course not!! However I was hurting on the drive home from the airport. Nobody should ever feel sorry for my sorry ass, however I just thought that 24 hour plus change timeperiod was pretty crazy. Oh, and at the period joke.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 01:33 PM) Truly. It's why he's the best, IMO. And Ritchie wasn't his fault. And even if it was, we gave up Kip Wells, Josh Fogg, and Sean Lowe?? None of them have been any better than mediocre in their career.
