  1. To be honest, I think last year's team overacheived pitching, and this years has hitting. That is what is driving most fans *raises hand* so nuts, the fact that you don't have any consistency. If the pitching just pitched like people thinks it should (better), and the hitting did it's job like it should (worse), I think even though our record would be about the same, people would be a lot less crazy. It's just seeing the offense get so much better and the pitching get so much worse is confusing and drives most people insane.
  2. I'm not defending people that are jerks off camera like MJ and Tiger, however I think to be that great in athletics, you kind of have to be an arrogant, selfish jerk. There are a few exceptions I'm sure, but I'd guess most of the great ones are just obsessed and not all that pleasant.
  3. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 02:17 PM) Who give a s*** what you want? Nobody does or should, but if you think 2005 gives the team a pass for the next decade, your an idiot and need to go root for the Cubs. We aren't loveable or losers, the fact it took 88 years for last year to happen is a joke, and anybody who accepts failure due to us winning a title is a bigger joke.
  4. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) Bottom 6TH B:0 S:1 O:1 Boston Red Sox left fielder Manny Ramirez left the game due to an injured leg. Anyone watching? What happened? Also, Sal Fasano's gameday picture looks like Jeffrey Tambor. Manny supposedly had some cramps or something, nothing serious. Thank you Yankees, a 5 game sweep at Boston....the Wild Card race looks like a 2 horse derby now.
  5. The 2005 World Series is done. That Championship is something to savor during the offseason, and if you want to use that glorious season as a reason to be satisfied with underachieving and not winning anything now or in the future, than I don't want you in our fanbase.
  6. Well he's going to set the majors record without a doubt, after that it's just a matter of how long until he gets bored.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 12:17 AM) The boston bullpen is full of Neal Cotts wannabes. Those guys are dead, and if they lose tomorrow, they are like, more than dead. It's a 2 horse Wild Card race, IMO.
  8. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 04:32 PM) His era last year in the 2nd half was nearly identical to his 1st half. Run support was lacking for him in the 2nd half. Really? I had no idea.....then I guess I'll just forget the crap 1st half of this season happened for him.
  9. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) Watching this team day in and day out, your 100%. Hawk gets alot of crap(for REAL good reason) but his criticism this year has been dead on. Yep. Hawk whines too much about the umps, but his analysis of this team has been 100 percent dead on accurate this season. Problem is, he's said all year we're not going to make it to October unless the starters get more consistent, and I don't have faith that all 5 (or even 4, MAYBE 3 could) at the same time.
  10. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) You can add Buehrle to that list as well Buehrle, like Garland, has been on my "I'm pissed because he's been bad, but I have faith he will turn it around" list. I honestly think he'll be fine as well. I have faith in a Count/Garland/Buehrle/B-Mac 4some in the rotation next year. Between Javy and Garcia though, that 5 spot is iffy (although if Garcia is traded for something and Javy gets a 2nd chance as a #5, I won't be too mad in 2007).
  11. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) JGINAA. Then our staff doesn't have one, and your admitting we have no chance even if we do make the playoffs. Jon Garland, when he's on, is a STUD. However I will give you he needs to be more consistent (the 2nd half of last year and 1st half of this come to mind). QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 01:48 AM) LOL. You were hating on him hard when he was struggling. The only people around here that stuck with him were me, Jason, and Dbaho. I was hating on his performance because I knew how good he was. At no point did I want him traded or moved out of the rotation, I had faith he would turn it around. All I was saying was he was pitching like crap, which was obvious.
  12. That game was pretty sickening, but I still have confidence we will overcome the Tigers, Twins, and Ozzie (he is officially an obstacle after bringing in Cotts again today, inexcuseable) and somehow make the playoffs. But damnit this is frusterating, however this inconsistent crap will continue the rest of the year. Let's just hope we can stack enough wins.
  13. Well I think bringing in Cotts was a great move by Ozzie today. Not like anything happened on Friday or in general lately that would make you gunshy about that move. Although hey, we had just scored 2 to cut it to 5-3, not like bringing in your worst pitcher and having him give up a 2 run homer costs a team momentum or anything. I'm sure glad Ozzie brought us a championship.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 09:58 PM) Is this to cover an injury or a true promotion? That's a good question, but hopefully he gets it done at AAA and continues to look damn good like he has at every other level.
  15. Today's outing puts him at THE worst ERA in baseball among starters since April 20th. Is he still a Cy Young candidate Red Sox nation and ESPN?
  16. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) ^^^ That was just not a good move. I'm a HUGE KW fan but he just got greedy with this trade, shoulda left BMac in the rotation and kept CY. To trade a future stud OF, a solid middle relief arm, and El Duque for a career .500 mental midget when you already have 5 starters is inexcuseable. KW is the best GM in baseball, but that trade was a disaster.
  17. He won a World Series, so don't question his managing. He's clearly omnipotent and to question a man with a ring is ignorant.
  18. Prove me and the 9 out of 10 Sox fans that are chalking up a loss tomorrow wrong Javy. I'll be watching, if we somehow could win it would be muy grande.
  19. Hey Freddy, the staffs new big game pitcher showed you how it's done tonight. Take notes, and quit whining about not getting a win when you give up 4 runs. I will boo you next time I see you, even if you play for us.
  20. The ace of this staff wants an apology from all the haters, JGINAA promoters, and people who call him a lazy ass Cali boy who doesn't care about results. I am wrong a lot, but sticking with Jon is one of the few things I might have got right, kudos Garland!!
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 10:04 AM) I think he knew and playing dumb was a set up for the rant. Agreed. I think he was obviously playing dumb with Kapler, not so sure about Youkilis, however I could understand if he didn't know the "greek god of walks" is Jewish. Hell I didn't even know that until I watched the video.
  22. They've lost 6 of 9 at home, so they've been slipping a bit without Francisco. Let's get 2 out of 3 (tonight is essential) and get the hell outta there.
  23. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 08:51 AM) Another f***ing small ball post? You'd think leading the majors in RS would be enough to f***ing convince people that the way to score runs is to get on base and hit home runs and doubles. The problem has been pitching, it's been the problem all year. The offense IS THE BEST IN BASEBALL!!! The problem is not the offense, it's not a lack of "small ball". The problem is that MB, JV, and to a lesser extent FG, JC, and JG have all s*** the bed this year. Add Neal Cotts and Pollitte to that list as well. A FISHING MEN. Your 100 percent correct. However, now that we got 1, we're getting greedy. That's how it goes I guess after you win 1 though, especially when your team is good enough the next year to win another.
  24. QUOTE(rangercal @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 03:25 AM) do your parents know your up so late? Uribe will be just fine. He will be on the south side for a few more years. Dig this post up if I'm wrong. But What I could do is, dig up thousands of posts of speculation, here on soxtalk , the last few years, that never came true. Honestly? I agree that Uribe isn't going anywhere, hence I brought up the Catalanotto LF idea and am a big Ryan Sweeney fan (since I think Pods is the one that will be gone). However I just gave some reasons why we might let Uribe go since Jordan4life was wondering. I personally hope we keep Juan, him and Alex at SS is a pretty nice duo. And out of confusion, I'll ignore the green comment.
  25. QUOTE(rangercal @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 03:13 AM) I agree. But off topic... I sure did love those last 2 plays of the World Series. Ok Back to the part I agree with you about. If he focused on defense like he did that entire postseason and used the leg kick swing and went to right field like he did that entire postseason, Uribe would be an untouchable. But he does neither, so HE GAWN! (probably).
