QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) I'm not thrilled about picking up Buehrle's option next season, but the truth is, what alternatives are there? I doubt we're going to be outbidding many ballclubs for a valuable starting pitcher. Our system isn't capable of assisting our rotation for next season. Broadway can't be any worse than Buehrle has been in 2007, and bringing him up, trading Garcia, and putting McCarthy in the pen gives us A TON of payroll flexibility while seeing what we have for the future. I'd MUCH rather do that then keep overpaid dead weight, wouldn't you?

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) I think Kenny has done a great job overall as White Sox GM, however, if this teams fails to reach the playoffs it's all on his shoulders. We didn't make it in '01-'04 but we didn't have a $100 M budget at that time either. You pour this much money into the team, and especially this rotation, you expect something more than a turd. Plus he could have very easily improved the team at the deadline (at least by trading away one of the underachievers). Nobody wants to trade for an underachiever, you don't trade guys at minimum value. Plus, the payroll number doesn't change the unexpected dropoff by this pitching staff. The only way this year is Kenny's fault is if YOU predicted the pitching rotation would be this bad, becasue even if they were just mediocre, we'd be a playoff team.

QUOTE(Wanne @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 07:03 PM) That's what pisses me off most! Getting beat is one thing...but to just go through the motions and really show little emotion or character...inexcusable. That is what I miss most about ARow! A Row has been mediocre as usual at the plate and hurt due to his kamikaze defense. Plus, if he's here, Thome's not.....so if you want Rowand back, that's fine, but we'd be even worse.

QUOTE(GOD @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) The thing that is really bugging me is this team has given up down only 3 runs in the 4th inning. It's sad I'm starting to highly doubt us making the playoffs. KW has ruined this team. KW didn't make the pitching suddenly be 10 times worse than it ever has been. He's done all he can with making the bullpen better and putting this offense that has been so great most of the year on the field. The Vasquez trade was HORRIBLE, but the problem with this team has been starting pitching all year, and it's just looking worse now since the offense isn't hiding it.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:59 PM) So how much longer do we wait for Buehrle to turn this around before accepting him as the pitcher he's been over the last 2 months? I'm just curious what people think. I've been confident he would return to form but now I'm not so sure. I honestly hope we just let him go after this year. Those 10 million plus could be much better spent than picking up his option. Oh, and I'm shocked to see Thome make an out on a 3-2 low changeup. That hasn't happened much lately to our hitters. Another great inning boys, at least we can't be no hit.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) Rogers does not really come inside all that often yet we still try and pull him. Awesome. And that's why we are the only team that can't hit him right now.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:57 PM) Atleast we'll have the benefit of hearing members cite this poor umpire, and how the missed strike call threw his rhythm off. I'm becoming VERY irritated with watching Buehrle. I may criticize Broadway, but I guarantee he can give us an ERA bordering around 5 for 10 million less. He continues pitching poorly, I sincerely hope next season is his last. Isn't Buehrle's option after this year a team one? Damn I'd just as soon let him go at this point and use the green on somebody else.

QUOTE(G&T @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:56 PM) What I don't get now is why MB doesn't adjust and start throwing inside where he might get the call. Outside isn't working. Because you can't throw inside at 85, as Freddy has found out this year. The ball is going to be hit very far if you do.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) It just baffles me how little enthusiasm and energy they have out there. That's the only thing Ozzie is good for, and the team doesn't even care now. What good is Ozzie as a manager now other than the fact a pitching staff carried him last year?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) The exciting news is that Buehrle might see his ERA go over 5 after today. He'll finally officially be a member of our fine staff once that happens. Contreras is on the way too with his recent performance!

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:53 PM) Meatball after meatball by Buehrle. Does Buehrle ever throw an inside fastball to start an AB anymore? Yeah, and it gets crushed for a homer. People have figured out how to hit him, I hope he enjoys St. Louis after either this year or next.
-
Oops, I jinxed it. Make it 3 runs plus.
-
Mark is settling in nice, but it's going to take a lot of help to score 2 runs on Rogers. We simply can't touch soft tossing lefties other than that bizarre explosion against Redman last week.
-
Nice inning boys, way to look alive out there. We should be home by sunset at this rate.

I love the new "side by side b**** session cam" that they just gave Hawk as a toy. Screw you once again WCIU.
-
Good thing BA is in CF tonight. Oh and I love how Hawk talked up the Home Plate Ump in the 1st, and by the 2nd he wants him dead. I guess the thing to do now is blame the umps when your pitching is a joke. Maybe we'll blame them for suddenly not hitting as well.

Greenland glaciers shrinking... for 100 years now

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Does anyone else think it's odd that Greenland is mostly covered with ice, while Iceland is mostly green? Some drunk Viking probably came up with the names, it's a bunch of crap just like the whole "Bluegrass State" thing in Kentucky, there isn't any damned blue grass in that state. As for the article itself......even it is contradictory. I never know what to believe with global warming, nobody can agree on anything in regards to this subject. -
Thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family....I can't imagine how difficult it is to try and do at times like these, but keep your head up and keep the faith, better days are in your future and your brother is watching your family's back in a better place now.

motherfarking snakes in a motherfarking theatre. Now THAT would be a box office hit.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 05:14 PM) damn I hate to read that It's not surprising, considering she had Victor Conte sitting next to her during her denial of cheating post 2000 Olympics.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 05:16 PM) If we're going to have Sweeney in LF and Anderson in CF, I wouldn't mind an offensive upgrade at SS. I think the front office is thinking along the same lines as you are in that regard. There is a reason we have seen Uribe publicly put down this year, and it's not just because Ozzie is nuts (although that's part of it).
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) Time for McCarthy to take a role in the starting rotation sorry, but all the starters except Garland suck Fixed and agreed.
-
Hello everyday LF in 2007. This talk wouldn't be happening if that wasn't the plan, as mentioned this has Anderson 2005 written all over it, plus despite the payroll increase, Rick Hahn and KW have said they want to continue to add young (cheap) talent to the team every year, including starters if they are good enough (which with the way he's improved at such an young age in AAA, Sweeney seems good enough).
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) Real simple: where's the passion and intensity on this team? Who cares, we won it all last year, and still lead the Wild Card race this year. They'll turn it around, don't stop believing!!

Can the Sox and Minny both go to the playoffs?
whitesoxfan101 replied to beck72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I honestly think there is a very real chance this will happen.
