  1. We play better and seem more interested against tough teams anyways, so bring it on.
  2. I don't like to over analyze, so I'll keep it simple. He mixed his pitches, kept the ball down, and didn't overuse the 4 seamer. As a result, he would have finished with 6 IP and 1 run allowed if his corner outfielders didn't pose as butchers for the night, so I was very encouraged.
  3. I have 2 (hope that's ok). #1. What pitch do you consider your go to pitch when in a tough spot? #2. Do you feel your arm is truly back to 100 percent following the Tommy John surgery in October of 2004, and did the surgery affect any of your pitches or your stamina?
  4. That's right, Cubs vs. Tigers this weekend. I dislike the Cubs as much as everybody, but for 3 days, I'm a BIG Cub fan. I want to see everybody in here (that includes YOU Hangar and Cuck the Fubs). Hehehehe, this weekend will filter out who is a Sox fan and who is a Cub hater that just kinda likes the Sox on the side.
  5. Great to see that from Garland tonight. If our COF's could catch, Jon probably throws 6 and only gives up 1. Paulie with the big blast, and have we found a bridge to BAMFBJ in B Mac and Jenks? I continue to like what I see overall, let's get a series win tomorrow.
  6. If we play like we have the last 8 games (in other words, like we are supposed to, with some heart and balls, and execution other than Dye's interesting mishap tonight), I have no concern about Detroit. We are better than them, and it will play out that way over 162. But the keys are for us to execute, play our game, and stay healthy....and those things aren't guaranteed. But I'm more worried about us doing what we should than about whatever the hell Detroit does.
  7. The Heat tonight came out hot, leading by 9 at the half. The Mavs in the 3rd played about the best 12 minutes I've seen this postseason, blitzkrieging the Heat to a 34-16 stanza and taking a 9 point lead to the 4th. In fact, the Mavs lead 89-76 with a mere 6 and change left. However, Miami went on a 22-7 run to end the ballgame and won 98-96. The key play in this one was a jumper by Gary Payton with 10 seconds left to put Miami up 2, and then Dirk Nowitzki's missed free throw with 4 seconds left that would have tied it. After that, Dallas got it back with 1 second left down 2, but Avery Johnson runs one of the worst plays I've ever seen late in a game. With 1 second left, instead of letting your 7 foot tall 3 point marksmen try and win the game and put his team up 3-0 (and essentially, win it all, and they can't block his shot), Dallas eliminates Dirk by having him inbround with only 1 second left, and has him try to throw a LOB OVER D WADE. Needless to say, it didn't work and Miami wins. Dallas can still pretty much put this thing to bed with a win in game 4, however they CHOKED away a chance to go up 3-0 and knockout the Heat tonight, and the next 2 are still in Miami, so you never know, this may become a series. Some may say the Heat made a great comeback, and I do give them credit for showing heart and not giving up (and D Wade scored 43 and had 12 boards, hot damn)....but as a wise man once said, "behind every great sports comeback is an even greater choke job".
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) Well your ballot pretty much sucks cause you don't have Pablo. see: NON BIASED in title . Nobody would want to see the biased ballot....
  9. Here is mine: AL 1B: Jim Thome (Sox) 2B: Jose Lopez (Mariners) SS: Miguel Tejada (Orioles) 3B: Troy Glaus (Blue Jays) C: Joe Mauer (Twins) OF: Jermaine Dye (Sox) OF: Alex Rios (Blue Jays) OF: Vernon Wells (Blue Jays) NL 1B: Ryan Howard (Phillies) 2B: Chase Utley (Phillies) SS: Bill Hall (Brewers) 3B: Miguel Cabrera (Marlins) C: Johnny Estrada (D'Backs) OF: Carlos Beltran (Mets) OF: Jason Bay (Pirates) OF: Alfonso Soriano (Nats) 5 thoughts: 1. Damn the Blue Jays lineup is good. 2. Howard is there since Pujols may not be back for quite a while, and Howard is sick. 3. Bill Hall's run production convinced me to pick him. 4. Tie goes to Cabrera since he's doing it on a WAY worse team than Wright. 5. These 2 teams are both going to have some damn good benches. Lot of talent this year. Also, for fun add who you have as SP for both sides. For me: NL: Brandon Webb (only guy close is Arroyo) AL: Jose Contreras (only guy close is Halladay) Both sides have some good candidates for SP, but those are the clear leaders right now IMO.
  10. Jon hasn't been as bad as he was early in the year in his last 4 outings. Problem is, any little thing that goes against him (a close pitch, a bad defensive play, a broken bat hit) causes him to completely lose his cool. If Jon would just be stronger mentally, he'd have had several good outings recently. But the problem is, he's very weak mentally right now, and that's something he has to hash out. Also, A.J. must MAKE him throw the sinker and 2 seamer the majority of the time, use the change as a change of pace, and ONLY throw the 4 seamer out of the zone.
  11. QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) Brazil is good but looks vulnerable (bad word, maybe, 'not unbeatable') to me More bad news for USA, Totti cleared to play Saturday (after it looked like he might have hurt his leg again) and Gattuso (YES!) and Zambrotta should also be available I think the worst news for the U.S. is they are poorly coached, undersized, being gunned for, and playing somebody that's damn good. But maybe that's just me.
  12. QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) Anyone else notice from that link that we have the 2nd highest average weight? But also we are the tallest team (tied for it), so that plays a factor as well. That and our team has some gigantic people in terms of height and weight (according to that site, Jenks 6'3, 280...Dye 6'5, 235....Thome 6'4, 245....A.J. 6'3, 235....Thornton 6'6, 230.....Jose 6'4, 245....Freddy 6'4, 250....Nelson counts at 6'8, 225).
  13. 0-0 France-Swiss so far, getting ready to start the 2nd half. Both teams missed golden chances so far, the Swiss had 2 men all alone in the box, but the shot hit the goalpost...and then later the French had a 1 on 1 breakaway with the goalie, but the player inexplicably passed the ball and f***ed up the whole play.
  14. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) Cue the ESPN spin-o-meter..he will look angelic again by this weekend. Dicky V still thinks he's going to be a more athletic Mark Price in the NBA, and a 358 time all star.
  15. I'm not a doctor or even close to one, so I ask for the help of somebody that would know about this.....but wouldn't a 9 inch gash on your head be life threatening with all the blood you could lose?
  16. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) So he's taking shots off the court as well. If he misses as many shots in the bar as he does in the NCAA Tournament, he should be VERY happy right now, else he might have been 3 or 4 times over the legal limit. Good to see Leader K continues to develop great people, drunken driving is something only the highest members of society do.
  17. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) He's hitting .417 in 50 ABs this month, and overall, he is hitting .332 with a .934 OPS in 220 ABs. He's hitting .357 on the road, and .297 at home. How is all of this possible considering that he's a lifetime .255 hitter who will turn 32 this summer? What in the f*** is going on? Thanks for the thread. Honestly, I thought this revival was all about him playing in Texas, but those splits suggest otherwise. He's always been very fast and a plus defender, and maybe he's having his 2003 Esteban Loaiza year at the dish (if that makes sense lol).
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) He's washed up. Never will be healthy enough to hit 20 homers after getting hurt in 2005. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  19. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) The only thing I wonder about is why he doesn't strikeout 9-11 batters a game more often. His stuff is certainly filthy enough. Well the answer to that one is pretty simple, Jose's strikeout pitch is the forkball and last night was the first time all year he really had his good forkball. Combine that with a Rangers lineup full of long, homerun swings, and you have 11 k's.
  20. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) He still got shelled in AAA, and that Geoff Blum HR was so worth him. Well yes, his ERA is over 10 in AAA, however he's only 27 (28 in October), so he has plenty of time to keep developing his game as the great prospect that he is.
  21. Well they SHOULD have lost, so the fact it's in extras is a blessing. Hopefully the D-Rays can get a run or two. Walker had actually been pitching great lately, and has 10 saves. Sucks he picked now to decide to suck again.
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) Nevermind, for a while on gameday it said "on field delay" so I had no clue what was going on. Some smoke from a fire from one of the buildings downtown probably covered the field, needed to wait for a wind gust.
  23. I think we might be back. The last 7 games, we've looked like the team I expected to see all year, the team with the heart and guts that we showed in 2005. Great win, let's get it done again tomorrow.
  24. With tonight's win, Jose Contreras has now won 15 consecutive regular season decisions (dating back to last year), which ties the all time club record also held by LaMarr Hoyt (1983-1984) and Wilson Alvarez (1993-1994). Jose is now 15-0 with a 2.35 ERA in his last 19 regular season starts, and will look to set the new club record for consecutive RS decisions won at 16 next Saturday in Cincinnati (woo, I'll be there!!) Congrats to Jose (who also set a new career high for strikeouts tonight with 11), that's a hell of an accomplishment.
  25. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 08:39 PM) wow, when they put that stat up about Jose .695 lifetime winning percentage......just makes me want to hug Estaban Loaiza for having a career year in '03.... Yep, I thought that 21 win season had died in vain when we failed to make the playoffs and he didn't win the Cy. Boy I could not have been any more wrong. The one problem tonight? Jose's ERA will skyrocket from 2.54 to 2.62.
