Props to Sox Fans re: Cincy
Best part was after leaving that heart stopper Saturday night. I was in my Sox gear, and all the Sox fans (most random who had never met each other) were cheering and high fiving and heading to the hotel bars and such downtown to hang out and party. What a great time, we really took over downtown. Some great memories for sure, what a time to be a Sox fan.

Series Preview: White Sox vs. Cardinals
QUOTE(CardsJimEdmonds15 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 01:51 AM) I really really get what your saying.. we're a different team without Pujols.. The lineup isnt sexy and it wasnt even that sexy with Albert but now the players are stepping up MORE than they have all season because they have to now.. We're 8-5 without Albert.. Granted that's a small sample but besides a sweep against the Reds right after we lost Albert, this team hasnt missed any beat at all. We're running bases and stealing more, etc without Albert.. It's a good thing actually.. But then again even with what I said.. I'd feel much better if the series wasnt in Chicago.. and clearly the Sox are the better team even if Albert was healthy.. still we're not some easy team without Pujols.. of course now that I say that you'll be winning games like 12-1, 18-3, 34-0, etc against the Cards From [Here] And here's a roll call of what some hitters have done during Pujols' absence: Scott Rolen is batting .372 with 16 RBIs and 16 runs scored. Juan Encarnacion is batting .421 with 14 RBIs. So Taguchi has a .384 on-base percentage, five stolen bases and 14 runs scored. Yadier Molina is batting .305 with two homers and seven RBIs. Jim Edmonds is hitting .292 with four extra-base hits and a .383 OBP. Chris Duncan has chipped in with a .310 average and some timely hits. Anyways I dont have much to say.. Best of luck this series (but not too much) and the rest of the way.. All good points, it should be a fun series. Don't take it personal of course, like with the Reds this weekend, I enjoy watching the Cards and they have great fans, and I wish you luck after this series. But I hate whoever the Sox are playing, and for 3 days that just happens to be your guys.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 09:51 AM) I don't think either team gives a flying f*** about the other at this point. Both teams are on pace to win over 100 games, and if that happens, nobody is going to catch either of them. Both teams have clearly been, by both wins and run differential, the best teams in the AL so far. With over 70 games over, neither team is likely to miss the playoffs. The Hard Ball Times has an excellent article up on the Yankees and Red Sox (and the AL East in general) that predicts the wild card will likely come from the AL Central. I don't see any reason why not. Agreed on all counts. If both teams continue to play well (which they very well may), the Wild Card will come from the Central and they 2 will battle for home field in the AL playoffs. I'm sure both teams are just happy to be winning this much right now.

Brian Anderson; What I saw this weekend
He's extremely talented and already very good at almost every aspect of the major league game except hitting. This story is definitely not a surprise, and to see his hitting begin to come around is a great sign here.

Official NBA Playoffs Thread
So apparently there is some conspiracy now? Even though Dallas blew games 3 and 5 on their own? People should listen to Hubie Brown, he said the foul should have been on Dirk for grabbing the jersey first, but that Harris also got him on the arm. Photographic evidence supports Hubie's claims: Dirk jersey grab first Harris gets Wade on the arm NBA conspiracy theorists often times have a point, but this isn't one of them. If Dallas doesn't let up in game 3, they would have had a 3-0 lead....and if they didn't choke at the line in key spot after key spot (Dirk, Howard) OR use their last timeout after the FIRST free throw (as Howard called to the ref.....twice), they lead 3-2 right now.

ESPN rankings
The Mets lost 2 of 3 at home to Baltimore this weekend, and play in the minor league. lol at them being #1.

Ryan Madson
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 12:38 AM) In 2004, Ryan Madson posted a 2.34 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, a .238 BAA, 55 K and 19 BB in 77 IP in 52 games (1 start) for the Phillies. The fact that he gave up 7 of his 23 R in 1 outing that year only makes those stats more impressive. Really? Hot damn!! We must have ate our wheaties that day, because that was one of the worst starts I've ever seen a guy have in person. He couldn't have got his grandma out with the stuff he was throwing up to the plate.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) The Reds would be pretty damn good if they could find a starting pitcher or four. They have 4 good ones right now. They'd be REALLY damn good if they didn't have the worst bullpen in baseball (ironically, the 2nd worst one also is in Ohio ).

Ryan Madson
After I in person saw him go out to the mound with a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st at The Cell in 2004, only to promptly give up 6 runs and not complete the first inning.....I decided I did not like Mr. Madson.

Dallas still has homecourt, but they gave away 2 games they had no business losing at Miami due to choke jobs, lack of ability in the clutch, and general stupidity (oh, and they failed to show up for game 4). They better wake up back in Dallas, or else this will end on Tuesday.

Series Preview: White Sox vs. Cardinals
QUOTE(peanut33tillman @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) At least 2 out of 3?? Wow....little overconfident here are we chief? This Cardinal team is a very good ballclub with or without Albert, this series will be no pushover at all and I'd be thrilled with taking 2-3 from the Cards..IMO a sweep is very unlikely but then again your entitled to your own opinion Take a look at the current Cardinals everday lineup, the pitching matchups, the way we are playing, and the scene of the games.....and if you come to any conclusion other than we should win at least 2 of 3, I'd be shocked. The Cards are good and we better be ready to play, but I was more worried about playing in Cincy than I am about facing the current Cardinals club at our place.

Cleveland is done
The Twins and Indians even could contend if they were in the NL, or the AL West......but not here. They are in the "group of death", the division from hell, the midwest house of pain. Unless the Tigers for some reason forget how to play baseball, it's us and them. The Indians s*** pitching (ESPECIALLY in the pen) and the Twins lack of offense is too much to overcome what they are chasing. I'd also like to point out that winning 90 means the Twins still finish in 3rd, btw.

Official Flubs Suck Thread
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) So why a 95 Million Dollar roster? Why not just trot out the 15 Million dollar rost from the Marlins? The amazing part is the 15 million dollar Marlins payroll (as they are now showing with MLB experience) has more talent than THE MAJORITY of rosters in the sorry ass NL (Cubs obviously included). And Nuke is right.....as a buisness, the Trib is brilliant. But they'll never win because of it in baseball.

Series Preview: White Sox vs. Cardinals
QUOTE(CardsJimEdmonds15 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 07:05 PM) Just dont assume it'll be a pushover without them.. Offense has been stepping it up and scoring at ease without Pujols.. pitching is starting to pick it up the last 5 games finally.. Just be careful what ya say.. The lineup isnt the prettiest and neither is the staff but they are playing good ball right now.. 7-2 in their last nine games.. not bad! But yes it shouldnt be a problem.. just sayin If this were in St. Louis, I'd be a bit worried. But we're playing you without your 2 best players at our yard, and are on fire right now. Your a good team, but the NL is just so inferior and with the way we're playing, I'd be very surprised to see us lose this series.

Official US Open Thread
Ahh yes, Phil manboobs, the biggest fraud in sports, with the choke job. I love it.
-
And thats a Cubs loser
Yeah, they are pathetic. But we are on our game, so either the Tigers will fall behind us, or the 2 of us will blow everybody away and lock it that the AL Central gets a Wild Card berth (which it will IMO).
-
Jose Contreras
Jose was a BRUTAL victim of bad luck last night. Other than the Lopez homer, he was a victim of broken bat hits and luck galore. And the Kearns ball in the 6th gets him out of the inning with a QS and a 3-3 tie if Pods doesn't get the worst jump of all time.

Marlins
Josh Johnson=Major league ERA leader at 2.01 I have no idea where the hell Johnson and Uggla came from, but they will both be in Pittsburgh in about a month for the ASG festivities.
-
Series Preview: White Sox vs. Cardinals
No Pujols and no Carpenter=No problem. Be careful with Rolen and with the way we're playing, it's at least 2 of 3.

Props to Sox Fans re: Cincy
I didn't get to today's game, but while I was in Cincy and at the game and all that, you could see Sox fans EVERYWHERE. Downtown, at the park, on the roads, at the restaurants, making more noise than the Reds fans in the park. Well done Sox Army, and oh yeah good to see the team hitting it's stride, EVERYBODY contributing, and it's starting to feel like 2005 again.

OFFICIAL GO CUBBIES THIS WEEKEND THREAD!!!
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) I don't know much about Carmel or whatever his name is. I do know the Cubs have no chance against Verlander. It's going to be hot with the wind blowing out. Hit it high and watch it fly, and on those types of days (which it will be all 3 games of this series), anything can happen.

Netherlands leads the Ivory Coast 2-1 after quite a first half of play. Should be 45 great minutes in the 2nd.

Kotex Boy Worried About Ozzie
Everytime you start a thread like this, Marriotti has done his job. The only way to truly show your distaste for him is to ignore his articles and not talk about them at all, period. (However, me posting this also means Marriotti has done his job, so yeah... lol).

Pro-Sox media bias?
Comcast is always VERY pro Cubs AND Sox because of the sweet little T.V. deal. But hey, that's how it goes these days in sports media...
