QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) I am going against the grain here and creating a non-controversial thread. Ichiro is batting .532 in June (25 for 47), and .450 overall since he went 0-4 against Count on May 5. He has a .550 average in 18 ABs against the most promising duo in baseball (Santana/Liriano), and that includes a 1-4 performance against Johan Santana prior to his current hot streak. He would be hitting an even .400 on the season if you took away his numbers vs. Boston and Chicago (.132 AVG in 37 ABs). He is hitting .383 at Safeco, which is arguably the best pitching environment in the majors. He is now up over 2500 hits combined between Japan and the MLB, and he's only 32. The guy is just a freak. Agreed on everything except 1 thing. Playing in a park like Safeco actually helps Ichiro IMO, since he's a singles/bloopers/gap hitter who benefits from a huge outfield like Seattle in terms of hitting. But yeah, 32 is still pretty young, he can still fly, defend, and throw very well.....he may end up with over 4,000 combined hits (he could play until he's 40 IMO).

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) I can't be the only one who's noticed that 300 lb linemen seemed very rare 10 years ago, and now 350 pound linemen are the rare ones. Amen. And there is a reason besides regular old legal modern medicine that a guy like Thomas Jones (among many others, he's just the one I thought of) can badly sprain knee ligaments and only miss a game or two.

The NFL has tried to keep steroids out of it's sport, and it doesn't have all the benchmark records baseball does, so that is why they have stayed out of the spotlight. However, I will say there is little doubt that HGH is more rampant in football than even in baseball....there is no urine test for it, and those guys aren't all THAT huge and THAT ripped and able to recover like that on accident.

QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) Yeah, Poland was playing for a draw after the red card, really unfortunate that they had to take the loss there considering just how well Bourac played. That being said, with the Poles and the US all but eliminated I need a new side to root for, any ideas? I root for Italy when the U.S. is eliminated since I am pretty much 100 percent Italian in background, but I can't do that since the U.S. plays Italy next. However after Italy wins that game and finishes off the U.S., I'll probably root for them. But then again, I don't know your ethnic background, so I'm sure that did nothing to help -

Incredible!! The Germans hit the crossbar on 2 consecutive shots before having a 3rd shot (and goal) taken away on an offsides at the 90 minute mark. But only 1 minute later, the Germans make an incredible run and score the goal to beat (and all but eliminate) Poland 1-0. -
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) What are you talking about? That ball was hit over his head onto the track. Oh, and Jermaine didn't put two extra men on base, either. It was over Dye's head because Dye froze for over a full second, then took off again and just barely missed the ball. If Dye makes that should be catch, it's 5-2 with a man on 1st and 2 outs. And also, the Rangers don't score in the 2nd if Pods makes the should catch on Wilkerson's ball.

B-Mac is being used regularly, the suckfests of Nelson and Politte are gone, Montero has been pretty good when he's in, and most important is the split: 21.1 IP, 19 k's, 4 walks. If you strikeout nearly 1 per inning, and only walk 1 per 6 or 7 innings, success will follow.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) Adam Dunn just hit a 3-run walkoff HR to the last row in the stadium on the ESPN game. Still That guy is such a classic DH. Can't run, can't defend, can't catch, has no arm.....but he can hit the s*** out of the ball and draws a TON of walks (which offsets the horrid batting average).

Tribune boasts Cell Phone as Breakthrough Technology
whitesoxfan101 replied to Hangar18's topic in The Diamond Club
Who the hell cares? It's f***ing Wrigley, if you really want to get somebody warm in the bullpen, you can yell "HEY DEMPSTER, GET WARM" from the dugout steps since the bullpen is so close. And as for the media, the Cubs are a suckfest so they need SOMETHING that isn't negative to talk about, so who cares about the media? -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) that was a pretty tough catch. Wilkerson had the same chance the day before and looked worse. Not a huge issue. Wilkerson is a s***ty fielder too .

OFFICIAL GO CUBBIES THIS WEEKEND THREAD!!!

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) This was brought up on that other website, and I had to think Long and Hard about that, and my love for the SOX is much stronger (despite what some over there and here will lead you to believe) than my hatred for the Arrogant Organization 8miles north. If I dont make it to Cincinatti this weekend, I will be at the Saturday Flub game with my cousin (who is a fan of that other team) and will be rooting very extra hard for that stupid team. Get this, as a show of good faith, my cousin is trying to get me to wear something related to that team ......(shivers) I may do it as a joke ..........(still shivering) If you hate the Cubs and openly root for them to lose ........ You must not be a Real Sox Fan according to some people supposedly Fair enough, however I would NEVER suggest wearing Cubs gear, even this weekend, that is going too far. As for rooting against the Cubs, I don't openly go out of my way to do it (for instance, I only have them on if the Sox game is over/they arent' playing), but I always hope that they lose. If that makes me less of a fan, then so be it, but I think the fact I'm rooting for the Cubs this weekend proves yet again I'm a far bigger Sox fan than I am a Cub hater. -
The latest craze in abortion law...

The sooner people realize the difference between what you believe morally about abortion and whether or not it should be legal, the better. -
One of those like personal Connie's Pizza's (sausage topping) is spectacular. On a hot day, gotta roll with the chocolate dippin' dots of course, and a kosher dog is also a winner, although I like it plain since the dog itself tastes amazing and putting anything on that version of a dog ruins the taste IMO.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) Besides his arm, an "angry, hungry Cliff" is what we need. I think we cannot underestimate the effect a veteran influence would have on this bullpen. Even with their playoff experience or solid performance so far in some cases this season, this is still a young group. Last season, Dustin provided the bluck of that leadership out there. Without a trade, Cliff would need to set-up into that role more in the Bullpen or on the mound for the young guys. I agree that an angry and hungry Cliff is better, but in baseball, leadership is only as good as on field performance, so he needs to pitch much better (and I think this DL stint will help aide that part of things). -
QUOTE(Beetle @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:53 AM) Thanks for visiting our site, beautox. Baseball fans from all teams are welcome at 'MB'. With the uncertainty surrounding our quest for a permanent home, it's hard to predict what's going to happen; however I'm of the opinion that Willis and Cabrera will not be traded anytime soon, for PR/Marketing reasons if nothing else. If they are, though -- I have absolute confidence that Larry Beinfest will get our money's worth. Speaking for myself, I couldn't be happier with what we got in return for Beckett, Delgado, Pierre and others this postseason. Sure, the team struggled at first, and they're still a work in progress; but, the stuff we've seen from them -- especially this last month or so -- is extremely encouraging. This year, my mind, and that of most fans and the front office, is on the Stadium. Getting a stadium deal done is the key to our success in the coming years. I feel that if an agreement is reached this year, come next season, the Marlins will be a legitimate threat in the NL. Interesting perspective, thanks for visiting and posting. A lot of fans here still follow the Marlins due to their amazing amount of young talent and obviously 2003, and hopefully you guys get that stadium. As for the 2 stars, if Willis pitches extremely well in the next month or so and gets his value way up, i'd strongly consider dealing him since you could get a king's ransom, but Miguel Cabrera has that rare, almost Manny Ramirez like ability to dominate at the plate, so no way you should let him get away. Just my opinion though, good luck to you guys the rest of the way, your playing great ball right now.

Hermanson is going to have to retire, but that's been pretty obvious since about early March. Thanks for the great work last year Hermy, and enjoy the money, retirement time, and ring.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) This could be interesting if both Tracey and Montero keep pitching decent. I imagine they would send down Tracey and keep him stretched out as a starter, but these guys are competing to see who stays and who gets a bus ticket to Charlotte. Yeah that is a good point. Tracey has been more of a starter down at AAA obviously and Montero obviously has WAY better control right now, so I'd guess Montero stays and Tracey goes. -
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 09:13 PM) I personally think he could've given up nothing. I believe Pods should definitely have caught that ball, but I may be wrong because I was doing a lot of work while I was watching it. And then the Dye play seemed catchable, too. Your right on both plays that should have been made, however if Dye catches that ball at the track, it's the 2nd out and the man on 3rd tags and scores, so it would have been man on 1st 2 outs for Texiera, so that 1 run was legitimate. However Jon did pitch much better than the final box score said IMO, all things considered.

22 year old rookie Josh Johnson of the Marlins had another strong outing in a win over John Smoltz last night, and he actually now leads the majors in ERA at 2.05. Their first basmen Mike Jacobs also has gotten hot since a VERY slow start, and is up to .260 with 9 homers and 35 RBI's, so him along with Cabrera, Uggla, and Ramirez are making to be a fearsome foresome at the top of the order (and Willingham is still pretty good too). Also good to see is Ricky Nolasco, the top prospect in the Pierre deal, is doing quite well, as well as local Crystal Lake product Scott Olsen, in their rotation (along with Johnson and Willis).

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 07:10 AM) Can't they both lose? God I feel so dirty. No matter the choice, I will need a LONG shower. :puke I WOULD agree....however it's only 3 games, and the Cubs have no shot at the playoffs anyways, so them winning hurts nobody. QUOTE(Felix @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 08:52 AM) If you can't root for the Cubs to beat the Tigers this weekend, then you need to get your priorities straight. Amen. I f***ing hate the Cubs and root against them almost every game every year, however this is priority time and it's pretty easy this weekend for me to root for the Cubs. -
QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) No matter how stupid what he did (or didn't do) is, hopefully he turns out to be okay and realizes that he made a mistake and is lucky... Like Aaron Rowand. So your comparing crashing into a wall making a catch in a key situtation in a baseball game to driving a motorcycle on a highway without a helmet, and only being alive after crashing due to pretty much blind luck??

Haha one of the blind homer English fans arrived to tell us that Beckham and their soon to be recovered star who can't score a goal in Rooney will lead them to the crown. That was inevitable, but I still laugh heartily. -

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) the Mavs just gift-wrapped that game to em. Great coaching Avery.. Oh man, that play at the end of the game was straight out of the Lute Olsen school of late game play calling. You have a 7 foot tall guy that can rain 3's, and if he does it there you are up 3-0 and basically win the trophy. So what do you do?? You have Dirk INBOUND where he has no time to get it back, AND you try to throw a 30 foot lob pass over Dwyane Wade?? Unreal, I think Avery is a great coach but that was HORRENDOUS. -

QUOTE(Dan @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 12:59 AM) tigers will falter later in the year, can afford to sweep cubs now. go Detroit. Alright, we have filtered out one person who is simply anti-Cubs. As for the rest of you....good to see common sense prevail. In fact, I dont' even mind just saying lose Tigers. As long as you hope the Tigers go 0-3 this weekend, that's all I ask, common sense needs to prevail here, regardless of how you word it.
