  1. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 11:52 PM) Oh, you guys have forgotten the guy that will get this team back to the World Series. The reason we're in second place is because we're missing Aaron Rowand's defense in center. I don't see Anderson running into walls or diving for balls. Lack of effort and execution. Oh for sure. Sure Rowand had to dive and run into walls since he's slower and got worse reads than Anderson does in CF, but Rowand's getting dirty really fired up the troops, kinda like McMahon would do when he ran on passing plays. Actually, Ozzie is the Latin Ditka too, this team is so much like DAAAAAAA BEARS, it's scary. Effort and grit >>>>> Talent Talent is just something prima donnas have, all of our players are blue collar grinders.
  2. Anderson, and it's not even close. Rowand gets bad reads and his average at best speed. Anderson is a burner and gets great reads just about every time. Anderson by a mile, and i'm baffled the voting is this close since it's a defense only vote.
  3. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 11:40 PM) I'd love to see the reaction on this board if someone called Ozzie a "wetback." I'm not defending Ozzie's words, he shouldn't have said what he said. However there is a difference between a man having a misstep in speech and people going crazy and overreacting about it. Ozzie has a bad temper and said something stupid, this isn't the first or last time it will happen, and he's not the first or last person to do it. I'd rather Ozzie be a little more careful with his words, but he has yet to commit a crime and he's still a great manager, so I'll deal with it. Nobody is saying Ozzie is some sort of role model either, however his actions aren't good in the sense that he IS a role model for the kids in Venezuela.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) I do believe that a reconstruction would be incomplete without reacquiring the real king of hustle and mr. pornstache himself, Jose Valentin. He can take over the utility spot from that POS Pablo Ozuna. Of course. He hit a 415 foot blast in the bottom of the 7th tonight to give the Mets a 1 run lead. Sure he was thrown out at 2nd on the worst baserunning play ever early in that game, and sure the Mets ended up losing, but he's still a legend. And also, he's the best baserunner Hawk has ever seen (next to Yaz), so this move is a no brainer. I bet for Sweeney and Fields, we could get it done.
  5. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) i've been stalked, it is indeed an honor... like OMG! with all the members, we should like totally start a soxtalk myspace group... Hell yeah, we could talk about which player is the cutest and whether or not one of the players winked at us during the game. Such pressing issues seem to be overlooked around here.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 11:20 PM) YAS, this is right on. Obviously I can't speak to how the word has evolved but I can tell you that when a lot of people use that word that it has absolutely 0 homosexual connotation. Yeah, definitely YAS is right now. *whoever* sucks went from meaning they are gay to meaning they are bad/stink at something. And with ***, to be honest *** doesn't mean gay anymore, it just means your an idiot/moron/stupid. This is the kind of s*** why I say actions speak louder than words, and also is why I think the PC police/people that believe in "word crimes" are just silly. THEY ARE JUST WORDS, and if you will get that worked up over simple words, it's just silly (ESPECIALLY since it's rare that 2 people interpret things people say in the same way anyways, who knows what a person actually means with their words). Now I'm not saying Ozzie was right (because he wasn't) and in fact, Ozzie is pretty ignorant in general....however to say that THIS is a suspendable or even fireable offense for a guy whose job is to manage a baseball team, (a job he does well) is over the top.
  7. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) Carl Everett gets his 200th career home run. Congrats to him. Got a 3-2 cookie and hit it WAY out, about halfway up the bleachers in right center at Dodger Stadium. It started a rally as well, as what was a 5-2 game to start this inning is now 5-4 with the Mariners still batting.
  8. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) LOL You are my nemesis tonight. Nothing gets by you. We should acquire Jose as well though, it was a good idea. He's a blue collar professional hitter, and he will hit way better than Brian and his below Mendoza line s***. Acquire him and the other Vizcaino from Arizona to shore up the mop up bullpen role, and I think we could probably win out for the rest of the season.
  9. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) I couldn't agree more. It is totally vital to this team that we correct the mistakes we made in the off season and re-acquire Damaso Marte and Jose Vizcaino. You want to re-acquire a guy that had the game tying hit AGAINST us in game 2 of the WS last year? Whoa, now that is shrewd thinking.
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 11:03 PM) That's what I'm saying, their starting rotation is nothing special and their lineup is no where near that of the Mets. The only teams worth a damn in the NL would be the Mets and Cards and IMO the Mets are the stronger of the two. Yep. The NL now is the like the early post-Jordan era NBA Eastern Conference in terms of how bad it is. And like the Western Conference Finals in those days, the ALCS will be the real World Championship Series this year.
  11. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 08:40 AM) ^^^^^^ people suck. that's been a recurring theme since time began Fixed And I bet these people win the suit. This is a great country we live in, and what a wonderful justice system. Oh, and I hope Gage and/or Heads stalk me on Myspace, that would be quite an honor.
  12. I would say a healthy Cards (if they ever can get healthy) would be the threat, but after seeing 2 of their 3 "best starters", I have to rescind that thought, even with them in the NL.
  13. The other thing I worry about here is the mop up relief spot. Politte was terrible, and after last night I think Montero is just as bad. What if we have a 14 inning game at an NL park like game 3 at Houston last year? When we need our 7th pitcher of the game in the 14th, Montero will come in and blow it. Kenny needs to address that, depth is key.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) Official reason for termination: You suck at pitching The Cubs put Rusch on the DL after his last start for that reason. I don't think that was what they listed as the reason, however that is what really was the case. Nothing like being put on the injured list for being bad at your job.
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) I know you weren't calling me out, my point is you don't need to lump everyone together and throw around blanket statements all the time when you're trying to make a statement. We're all prone to making bad predictions around here and you aren't immune to that. Of course, however there is a big difference between being an idiot preseason (like I am, all the time) and thinking after seeing the Sox, Tigers, and Twins for almost half a season that somehow the Twins are a threat.
  16. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) How could you people forget Roberto Alomar?!?! This guy Icoochie or whatever his name will never amount to anything. We need Alomar along with his solid fielding and fearsome hitting back on board! Beat you to it with the last post on page 1 .
  17. Trading for Carl Everett would be great!! You could then bring up 2 cliches in regards to trading for him, if it ain't broke, don't fix it and 3rd times a charm. Also, even though he's retired (right?) we should somehow trade for Robby Alomar. Gooch is still under .300 in terms of average and Alomar is a magician with the glove.
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) I'd have been pretty pissed if she sat in front of me. True, there is nothing that ruins at night at The Cell more than having the girl in her tall, weird ass looking giant trophy costume in front of you.
  19. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) This team needs Charlie Haeger back in the rotation. He gave up 4 runs in his start too, didn't he? If we're accepting that out of Buehrle and Contreras, we should accept it out of Haegs. Exactly. Plus, unlike with Buehrle and Contreras, the book isn't out on Haeger yet, so he can fool everybody his first time around the league and put together a legendary stretch of greatness with that knuckleball. He's like a combination of Tim Wakefield and Greg Maddux.
  20. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) Didn't they have to win 8 in a row just to make it back to .500? LOL! Also correct. Everybody is still respecting the Twins because of 2002-2004, but don't. They aren't as good as they were then, we're way better, and now the Tigers are there to deal with (plus Cleveland, although horrible right now, can still hit). It's a 2 team race, and the rest of this division has zero shot. The Twins have 2 STUD pitchers in Liriano and Santana and a very good closer in Nathan and star hitter in Mauer, but other than that, it's poopie. And although that kind of resume could win you the NL West or NL Wild Card, it won't get it done in the man's league and the division from hell. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) I don't think anyone was freaking out about the twins yet and you really got to stop just lumping everyone together when you're trying to make a statement. I also find it rich that you're calling people brainless when I recall you saying "the Brewers are going to win that division" after about a 3 game winning streak when the nl central was being talked about. I wasn't even calling you out, but ok. And also, I said BEFORE THE YEAR the Brewers would win the Central, so I was consistent at least.
  21. We could play the Mets at Shea with Freddy, Garland, and Haeger pitching and I'd be pissed if we didn't win 2 of 3. The NL is a f***ing pathetic ass joke, no team in that league deserves any respect, and this trend will only get worse in coming years until they man up and allow the DH. Until then, every AL team will continue to work harder to get pitching (due to 9 men lineups) and every AL team will have 1 more good hitter.
  22. Twins lost tonight, so the brainless people who think they are somehow going to climb back into the race can rest for 1 night. They are in 3rd place, have the 2 best records in baseball ahead of them in THEIR DIVISION, and gained ONE GAME during the winning streak that ended tonight. And they still can't hit. It's a 2 team race here folks, so calm down please.
  23. Dye went 0 for 5, and we didn't do s*** on offense after Marquis came out. Also, Buehrle wasn't really on his game tonight, and Thornton gave up a homer to Timo 'effin Perez. There are a lot of reasons to be concerned here, even when we win tomorrow, we're still 1/2 game behind Detroit. Kenny needs to trade for Aaron Rowand to fire up the troops.
  24. The NL f***ING SUCKS!!! THIS is their 2nd best team?? Hahaha give me a break, too f***ing easy. Sweep these assclowns tomorrow and bring on the Asstros. The NL Funhouse rules, beatdowns galore.
  25. Johan: 109 K's, 16 walks, 1.00 WHIP, 2.87 ERA, 7-4 record Pedro: 102 K's, 21 walks, 0.93 WHIP, 3.01 ERA, 6-3 record Carpenter: 75 K's, 25 walks, 1.24 WHIP, 2.46 ERA, 6-3 record Oscar Villarreal: 16 K's, 14 walks, 1.60 WHIP, 4.99 ERA, 7-1 record Ryan Madson: 43 K's, 29 walks, 1.71 WHIP, 5.70 ERA, 7-4 record Wandy Rodriguez: 57 K's, 41 walks, 1.53 WHIP, 4.59 ERA, 8-4 record So what have we learned today kids? W-L record among pitchers=overrated
