  1. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 12:04 AM) Was there as well and agree. Very good crowd tonight and were into the game throughout. Youk is quickly becoming a fan favorite. Youk will give you 200% - his body does break down but he could help win the division for you. Valentine wanted him gone and that is not playing well here.
  2. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 11:44 PM) Finally at .500 at home, right? About time. The best season for a hard core baseball fan is when you think you have no hope in April and come July you are very much alive. Texas and NYY have a little wiggle room at the halfway mark - but the number of teams in the hunt is staggering.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 10:40 PM) Trade Youk back to Boston for Lester, lol. Exercising the option on Youk and bringing back AJ are looking more and more likely....as for Peavy, the numbers just don't make sense. And quite ironic that Middlebrooks is now out and they might have to play Lillibridge there. Red Sox have been a DL disaster this year. They might make one of the wild cards but their biggest problem is the fanbase ( and players ) HATE Valentine. When you get swept by Oakland you have problems.
  4. Can we have Youk back please?
  5. Great shot by the crew from Fox Sports Southwest - fireworks and a full moon
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 12:37 PM) Good news, south of Roosevelt the Red Line will be running on Green Line tracks so you'll just have to walk a little farther. State and 35th actually used to be the Red Line stop. It won't make it the shuttle bus/transfer nightmare the Tribune made it out to be. It may work. Begs the question however if they will be forced to do the same on the Blue Line to O'Hare in a few years.
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ May 11, 2012 -> 05:31 PM) I heard that he was in a car accident. Was that the result of the heart attack? RIP Mr. Beane. Apparently the heart attack caused the accident. He was just a great guy.
  8. Carl Beane, the PA announcer at Fenway died of a heart attack on Wednesday. The Red Sox had a nice tribute to him last night. http://www.nesn.com/2012/05/carl-beane-mem...park-video.html
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 21, 2012 -> 09:34 PM) Not only that, Fenway, but you have the VERY uncomfortable situation of Francona broadcasting the Sunday Night game with a national audience...after he got more cheers than anyone Friday afternoon for the anniversary ceremony. It looks like a rainout on Sunday as a monster storm is expected to hit. Fans in Boston were spared some of it as FOX switched to Seattle nationally - at the time Boston was leading 9-1. When they came back it was 9-5 and then within 5 minutes it was 9-8. I have never seen anything like this. The crowd reaction to Francona spoke volumes.
  10. Bobby V..."I think we've hit rock bottom...I think we are a tough team though...Lets see."...... With all due respect to the Red Sox organization, in my opinion, you should wait until at least 40 games to judge any baseball team, but I also know that this year, with this particular Red Sox team is much different than other teams...only because of what happened last September. My opinon, fair or unfair, Bobby Valentine is not going to make it here...Yes, I know all the scenario's, he is not responsible for bad pitching which the Red Sox have had plenty of and I get all that, but the moves he made today and combine that with several over the past 10 days, he is simply not going to make it....He seems totally lost and totally overwhelmed...The Red Sox brass have some serious soul searching to do tonight and try to find out if Bobby V can hang on to this team or if he is totally over his head right now...However, Red Sox brass and team, pray for a rainout on Sunday and see what happens in Minneapolis and Chicago next week. Fans at Fenway today were chanting BRING BACK GRADY.
  11. Jose being Jose The LOUDEST ovation 38,000 people crying as Tek and Wake wheel out Johnny Pesky and Bobby Doerr Caroline Kennedy dances to 'Sweet Caroline'
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 21, 2012 -> 02:14 AM) The Mariners crew (Sims/Blowers) made a comment about Harrelson in 1967 and the fact that he was invited but wasn't going to show (besides the fact he was broadcasting the game). Something to do with not liking the current Sox ownership, but I couldn't understand what he said because it was right before the commercial break. But Francona did come back, right? I saw the scene with Pedro Martinez and Millar partying/drinking on the dugout, as well as Yaz and James Edward Rice. What about Nomar? I think Varitek and Wakefield were there, too. They had to roll out Pesky and Bobby Doerr. Dwight Evans? Fred Lynn? Carlton Fisk? Trot Nixon? I'm sure JD Drew wasn't in attendance, either. Dave Roberts couldn't be there because of his coaching duties with the Padres. That is odd about Hawk saying that as the Red Sox just put up a display of broadcasters and Hawk was one of the few that who was given a picture. Dwight Evans was the second player that came out - Fisk caught the first pitch from Caroline Kennedy. Nomar got loud cheers. Lynn, Nixon and Drew were not there. Complete list of who was there. http://www.weei.com/sites/default/files/pd...alumni_list.pdf The lovely folks at the NY Post had the last word today
  13. QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Apr 20, 2012 -> 10:43 PM) Hey, Fenway. Nice to see you posting here. Thanks Today was special at Fenway - a day when the REAL Red Sox fans, not the pink hats could cheer. Here are 2 links from MLB This is an 8 minute condensed version of the pre-game http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=20774345 Here is the Red Sox in-house video of the 200+ players http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=20773865 The beauty was - stars and bit players were for the most part treated the same. Sure for the younger fans 2004 and 2007 mean everything - but for us hardcore Boston fans we remember 1967, the mid 70's and 1986. The hardcore Boston fans DESPISE the ESPN generation of fans - and I will remind any White Sox fan that when you beat us in 2005 - most fans at Fenway while sad cheered the White Sox and said 'it's your turn'. The few White Sox fans in Fenway were not hassled that day.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 20, 2012 -> 08:19 AM) Boston has botched this whole ceremony by not originallt inviting Francona and Theo back. Two guys that brought them their only 2 rings in 90 years. I saw Francona will be there and will probably get a 5 minute standing O, but don't think Epstein will. Epstein was 'invited' but told he could not be on the field and he declined. Schilling says he wasn't invited until last week and claims he is flying to China. Clemens turned them down and nobody knows if Grady Little will show. Some here actually believe that the Red Sox will make some kind of an announcement concerning Francona which is why he changed his mind. The Yankees pulled that stunt in 1978. This is how bad things are right now. WEEI had an online pole asking who would be a better manager for the Red Sox in 2012 - Bobby V or Ozzie. Ozzie won with 70% of the vote. It is going to be a long summer in Boston.

  16. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 17, 2012 -> 07:41 AM) are you guys serious? Bobby just strengthened the commraderie in his clubhouse tenfold by doing what he did. By making himself the bad guy he made his team rally together. Every group needs a common enemy to bond. I GUARANTEE he just got his players amped up to play better - and I think he did it on purpose. There's no comparison here. Ozzie is just an idiot. Bobby V is a genius. Bobby V now has WEEI and WBZ-FM against him as he has called out hosts on both stations as morons - while he also has a radio show weekly on ESPN 1050 New York. We would take Ozzie in a heatbeat.
  17. On Friday at 3 PM Eastern - Boston will play the New York Highlanders in the 100th Anniversary game of Fenway Park. ( game will be on MLB Net ) The Yankees (Highlanders) will wear these http://assets.nydailynews.com/polopoly_fs/...e_635/image.jpg Boston will also wear 1912 uniforms but they have not released what they will look like. Today ( Thursday ) the team will have an 'open house' The Red Sox will hold a free open house from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, giving fans the chance to join in on Fenway Park's centennial even if they can't be there Friday against the Yankees. Terry Francona has decided to appear on Friday which should be very interesting. Bobby Valentine is already hated by Red Sox fans and WEEI had a poll asking would you rather have Ozzie as manager and 76% said yes.
  18. Hawks are in a weird situation. The 4-5 series in the west will be brutal - I think they are better off at #6
  19. The White Sox seem to be stuck at the 27,000 mark.... Selling the lower deck is not a problem as a rule. No other ballpark that I know of treats the upper deck as 'steerage" ( not having access to downstairs. This tier pricing has backfired as well.
  20. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) He'd be a good candidate. When did he leave the Yankees? I know he went from ESPN to NY. I never knew he was in LA. Steiner never got along with John Sterling on WCBS and then the final straw came when George decided that Suzan Waldman had to be in the radio booth. I asked Charlie about Frank McCourt and he wouldn't bite except to say the family is very hands on.
  21. I had occasion to work at the Harvard/Yale game Saturday which was produced by WGN for their Boston and New York WB stations. Play by Play was done by Charlie Steiner and was able to talk to him for a few minutes. His contract with the Dodgers allows him to leave if a #1 slot opens up and he said his agent has been talking to Infinity about both the White Sox and Mets radio jobs. He talked about how working with Scully is "weird", as Vin works in his own private booth with not even an engineer with him. He also confirmed that Infinity really wants Mike North involved in some way as they feel it will increase ratings for the morning show on WSCR.
  22. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) I think you'll find that most folks here respect the Red Sox and their fans about as much as we respect the Yankkes and their fans, or the Cubs and their fans. Don't forget that most Red Sox fans rooted hard for the White Sox and the fans at Fenway applauded Chicago when they won the ALDS there
  23. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) For the Sox's sake, I hope Wilder stays, but for his I hope he gets the GM job. He has a great baseball mind. Wilder was received well by the Boston media link below includes video http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/ David Wilder, the man who picked Bobby Jenks off the waiver wire for the Chicago White Sox, yesterday became the latest candidate for the Red Sox general manager's job to be formally introduced to the media. (By Nick Cafardo, Today's Globe)
  24. QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) One more thing the Cubs and Red Cubs have in common. One thing we don't have in common however
  25. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) May I say that I will be anxiously awaiting the DVD. I , like all the other great Sox fans, wanty a DVD with every game of the chamionship series and World Series. I can only pray that these commercializing SOB's don't play with our emotions. My credit card is ready folks. more on the DVD • A ride to U.S. Cellular Field with catcher A.J. Pierzynski before Game 2 of the series • Breakfast with Geoff Blum the morning after his dramatic walk-off home run in Game 3 • 2005 World Series Trophy presentation • TWIB Classic: Former White Sox shortstop Ozzie Guillen fooled by the hidden ball trick twice • Footage of the White Sox clubhouse celebration following the World Series victory • A collection of exclusive interviews with various writers, players and coaches • 1959 World Series Game 1 highlights "One of the biggest differences this year from other years is we had players like outfielder Aaron Rowand wearing in-game wireless mikes," said Check. "Rowand wore one for Game 2, as did [White Sox manager] Ozzie Guillen. Ozzie became the first manager since 1984 to wear a wireless mike in a World Series game. Gaining access to these individuals and hearing what is going on in their minds as the games develop, gives the viewer a very unique perspective to the likes of which has rarely been seen." http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=cws
