  1. Rosenthal is saying that the owners of the other two teams are not as convinced that Machado is worth it..as much as the Sox ownership is
  2. Everyone and their kind grandma is misreading this Rosenthal tweet
  3. I've often thought about why Merkin and Van Schowen etc. got fed the 7/175M info. It might be so that we can top out at 250M and have that seem like a late bump up to win, and have that be the local-news story
  4. Padres were brought in like cousin oliver at the end of the show's run. Manufactured to help Lozano save face. Goodnight, team
  5. Hector's tweet is a good thing
  6. 'deferral' of course in German translates to 'a whale's vagina'
  7. We've never seen Jerry with total (future) payroll this low. We've always been trying to win year to year with future payroll already spoken for. And Sox have had big payrolls before, the only difference this time is we'll commit a big percentage of that to one player
  8. my buddy found Frank Thomas Jr.'s boarding pass left behind once in the airport and gave it to me since I'm a big fan. It was Las Vegas>Chicago travel
  9. Padres rumors phrasing suggest they have to do creative structuring.
  10. Machado to Sox finally reaching its destination point. Bout time
  11. There's nothing more deflating than reading these twitter posts here and then checking the follower count and they have less than Me
  12. interestingly, in spanish he makes it sound like it's 'mannys preference' but in english he's listing it as 'order of highest offer to least' Lost In Translation, etc.
  13. Now that we're seeing these arbitration deals happen, it kind of marks a last landmark thing for the players union. They were fighting and fighting for players to not to have to accept these cheap security deals. Now that Nola and Severino did that, maybe there's a little more impetus for Harpchado to fall in line with their top offers. That's one read. Also if they are fighting now to preserve what they can for union-mates in later years, then we may be in for more waiting.
  14. That section is 5 paragraphs
  15. Passan is good: http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/26002896/the-bryce-manny-stalemate-latest-mlb-free-agency This is fantastic and does not roll out numbers but it does suggest what we've all kind of been suggesting, that 250M is too low and 300M is too high. Maybe 280M is our end point? For Manny at least.
  16. When Jordan was in the NBA he pushed the yearly salary to the number it had never gotten to before (at least as far as per year payment). Now he himself has become an owner. He had goals for that "money he would never spend," just on a bigger stage than any of us can fathom. Maybe a MLB player wants to be an owner one day so he can feed off active players' talents for the next row of yachts. Whether we like that mindset or not, it's silly to expect a generational wealthy person has no dreams left. That's projecting our own thoughts on it more than operating in reality - the false idea that with a certain $ amount we would be set and just on a beach til the end of time (or rather, the false idea that everyone can and will think that way)
  17. The players are going to be just as excited about taking 30% off their paycheck as you would be. People never apply their advice to players to themselves. With pro athletes it is always greed for some reason. But if you walk into a meeting with your boss, how excited are you about forking over 30% of your next raise without a hassle?
  18. People here are taking 'fallback' the wrong way. It is about money. The Sox have been in the rumors as the team willing to spend the second most money. That's what this is all about. Philly is like NL-White Sox. Harper going there wont be about them being more ideal than us as a fit. It will be pure dollars. These are the free agents who are setting the union's playing field for the larger negotiation to come
  19. MLB players who dont run hard..isnt that...like..all of them?
