  1. It being a legit present doesnt just totally eliminate the cheekiness of the posting to social media.
  2. The Alonso infant footwear is more notable than the screenshots we do of absolute nobodies on Twitter that say they have a source
  3. Padres' The Athletic writer opines that Lozano is asking the Pads to give a number, and when they do, they'll be granted a meeting Since the Pads havent hit the number, they havent gotten the meeting. So... sounds good to me. He also said "more waiting is on the agenda. neither agent wants their guy to sign first"
  4. I read the Athletic today, and for those who care: Leury & Rondon are out of options. Guyer and Delmonico can still be sent down.
  5. This NYY report is an old offer. Not a new offer. And that is good for us. Because the way we were going to win this is if we blow away the competition with our spending. Which we can do b/c of low payroll. This is our strength and we will now use it. NYY likely offered something like this before signing LeMahieu and Tulo
  6. Reinsdorf owns the Stadium twitter acct..and they were the source that broke the Yonder acquisition . It's weird to me they'd put it out there like that (re: signing both) but then again it's seeking clicks or whatever, at its core.
  7. I believe in the beautiful sound of the Nightengale
  8. Hahn implied in one of his comments yesterday that the Padres' interest may have been long-stemming and that Lozano has just been keeping it in his back pocket for awhile. That kind of baffles me though as I am not sure who that benefits. Players union would not love that as they surely want to get 100 free agents jobs and have the market set with the big ones signed.
  9. Why isn't it plausible that because of our payroll space we are offering our total dollars in a way that is more palatable to a free agent's desires (backload/frontload)? What if we are lower on dollars and more open to the option years the player wants? It's not binary.
  10. 'go down swinging' means we'll have offers at the expected level of what he's gonna get it's what the board wants, basically to a T, so i'm not going to get up in arms on that phrasing. If he takes less than us to go to NY we are not to blame. if he takes slightly less with Chicago to avoid Philly, then Philly would blame themselves for not having Alonso/Jay. You can go round and round on what it means to have money not be the sole determinant.
  11. Takes two to complete a deal. If Sox have the high offer they hold the cards. Meanwhile the Dodgers offseason is wrapping up and the OF glut is to be decreased but that's not a panic need. We've worked w/ them before and the relationship seems good.
  12. Joc is on hold til Machado is assured. Our entire decision to have a slight win-now feel in Year 1 is based on Manny. It's the domino that has to fall. Then we probably see Joc via trade and maybe a starting pitcher in some form or another, and that's the roster. If no Manny, no Bryce, then we just go win-later and pick up another Madrigal type in the next draft. This would be fine too, as Astros and Cubs fans have found.
  13. but if he did that he wouldn't be THE BEAST
  14. Guys, guys. Next year when Manny is refusing to run to first base we're all gonna sit back and think about January '19 and have a big old laugh about it
  15. Knowing Manny he's up for skipping some practice time if his agent suggests it
  16. Hahn mentioned " next few weeks" regarding big spending possibilities coming to fruition or not. Looks like the agents want a last minute flurry in hopes of piling bids.
  17. If the Padres blew him away with an offer this morning, we'd have the signing report out there. I still have us in the drivers' seat.
  18. Someone told Alonso to clam up. That may be a good thing from our perspective.
  19. He gabbed and gabbed and gabbed before he met in person the guys Manny would be replacing lol
  20. it being 'progress that we're at the table' is truth. We may hate the optics of that but the core reality is that we're more involved in this fight for the FAs and that is a good thing, not a bad thing. if a listener of that is more of a 'wake me when it's done' person, then great, and social media/message boards are not the ideal medium perhaps for that person, but it is valid to feel that way
  21. Jerry would be more stressed by NYY or LAD being very involved on this. Today's news is the same as when we heard there's a mystery team. And when we intuited (intelligently!) that several teams want one of the best players in the game, not just Chicago. Today's news doesn't matter if we still are the team with the money
