'se hacen eco' is kind of like he's saying his paper has its legitimacy referred to by MLB Trade Rumors and NBC Sports as being factual basis. So he's defending himself here https://twitter.com/hgomez27/status/1084876589735632905

and like one other person on earth

Eerie that you two are talking here and I have hung out with you both completely separately, nothing sox related either.

Irritating me today: We're going to get Manny for 7yr/220M but it's going to be 3 yrs team control. So the domino effect is going to be we become a win-now window immediately and we trade Micker+Rutherford for a god forsaken #2 starter.
-
I think what Nightengale and Levine are stressing here is indicative of how hard we are going at Machado's people about needing to get five years control or more if we are going to do a closer-to-record-setting contract. So it could be we have Passan's offer 'on the table' only if the opt outs window is fixed to benefit us The Sox-stereotype outcome of course is gonna be that on a day where we obliterate the team record for outlay to a FA, we do it in such a way that puts most of the money back in our hands in 3 short years.
-
7/220 makes sense if we are being generous re: the opt outs. I'm not shocked about Levine/Nightengale's tweets b/c Machado's suitor list is tiny
-
machado and harper would not both be on the same team at the end of this, for several reasons-- but chiefly-- that Boras will not share one cent more than he has to (from the same team) with a superstar player that isnt his
-
as far as contract figures and what offers the Sox make....i feel like in the Cespedes offseason, Levine and Nightengale were similarly in lockstep (as they are now). And were more or less right in the end too
-
Kind of interesting to me is..what does it mean that Rosenthal seems to have bupkis on all this?
-
Here's my shot at the cadence: we sign manny, then of course we get the rumor we're ALSO going to do a harper offer. it will get our hopes up but it'll likely mean nothing and harper will still go to the phillies. it will pain us here though b/c it'll be so tempting to think we wouldnt work with boras to help him with that (but we will) Then, though, we do one more signing like pollock or keuchel and that becomes the balm and we head into the season with a shot at the Central

What do teams gain from negotiating through the media? Just b/c i dont understand it doesnt mean it doesnt help. The Sox seem to be planting info with the hope of highlighting how bold they are on this, and how few true fucks they give.
-
The only thing that bugs me about Nightengale is his article is so horribly written. The last lines are basically teenage prose. But because he's untalented doesnt mean i can discount his info.
-
Nightengale has what's on the table, Passan has what's verbally floated. Just my speculation.
-
It's funny here that the responses seem to be "believe Passan, he's a top reporter, nightengale isnt" but nightengale is the one telling us what we want to hear (that we're likely getting Manny). And that is all fine, and i believe Nightengale is putting out what we want out. but is all just funny.

he put out there what reinsdorf et al wanted out there, though

Sox: keep going up with total years and total $. and in turn get more control before the first opt out. if this is what we're doing, I have no problem waiting longer. that is a specifics negotiation and not a multi-horse race
-
Wildly interesting is if the Sox get him for 200M with early opt out, or are forced to bid more $ so they can get longer control. Hopefully they shell out more cash. the farm is stocked enough to where we don't have to do FA patches like in the past every year
-
Feels like a reservoir dogs end-scene type situation all parties are pointing a gun at each other But in part, The Phillies and Sox help each other so they can each get one player...and the two agents sort of help each other to try to drive up $$ for the other side (by letting it drag out). So as much as we hate it, dragging out the process helps both sides in the negotiation...players union & owners

Great read https://theloopsports.com/2019/01/13/how-boras-and-harper-will-make-manny-machado-nearly-50-million-this-january/

Nightengale is often hated here but honestly when you look back at the thread of tweets he did about our Cespedes offseason, he was vaguely on the money I'm sure he's doing agents' bidding all the time, but these guys trade the plant info for the ability get overall narrative in the end and break news in the endgame. So you take a guy like Nightengale and follow him for the whole arc as opposed to expecting every tidbit to be 100% true along the whole journey there

People expect Manny/Sox, Bryce/Phils...but if those expectations get reversed, then we will have a hole in the Miami Baseball Brotherhood, so Bryce Harper will have to fill that in and become the 3rd one
