  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 01:20 PM) I hate being afraid of Shin-Coo Choo. I wish he still sucked, those were better days. still sucks on the basepaths apparently
  2. That's pretty much saying it's on without saying it http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?i...ce=MLBHeadlines
  3. First night where we feel the Clayton Richard loss: Win.
  4. He should feel free to bring it back in a playoff situation. Steve Stone, true competitor, says he threw curveballs one yr, won a Cy Young, and knowingly ended his career
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) You really shouldn't DH your backup catcher. Near zero chance of it happening of course, but it would be great to get one of those backup IFs that can catch. Give us a lot of flexibility and what not.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 03:53 PM) You could say the same thing about Dye's legs, Quentin's wrist, Konerko's hand, etc. You really can only have so much depth. True. This time next year Thome will be nearly 40, though. The other two scenarios are possible but Thome breaking down has a little higher probability of happening IMO.
  7. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) It seems to me that it's becoming more and more clear that Thome will be the guy sticking around next year. Dye will probably be offered arbitration, if it's possible to do so, and allowed to walk. I can't say I disagree with the decision, as we are going to need some power from the left side and Thome doesn't seem to have quite fallen apart yet. I'd miss Dye, but I'd also miss Thome if he left. One of them has to go if this trade happens, though. Just started thinking, if Thome's back acts up in a major way next year, we lose a lot of thump in the lineup this way. We'd be forced to turn to Kotsay in a bigger role than we want him for. Though such an occurrence could pave the way for Flowers to be playing every day as DH and catcher against lefties. Were he to be ready of course.
  8. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) That would give us a lineup of: Figgins LF Beckham 3B Dye DH Konerko 1B Quentin RF Rios CF Pierzynski C Ramirez SS Getz 2B Rotation: Peavy, Buerhle, FLoyd, Danks, (Torres, Hudson?) Let them battle it out in ST. Aside from RH-ness....I like the looks of it. Then eventually we could move out AJP for T-Flow. Get Quentin to DH if Mitchell/Danks proves ready. Although, For next year, I have this feeling the Sox (if this Rios thing goes through) have internally started leaning towards saving money by cutting ties with Dye and trotting Thome out for one last shot. They need a lefty bat in there, and Dye is now in his second straight year of second-half slumping.
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) Keep spending on what? I have major bullpen worries. It's not horrible but I could see it going that way. Also the aging sluggers at some point need to be replaced. It's weird but this power reliant team could be a year away from needing a new infusion of sluggers.
  10. I will say this... if it was back at the trade deadline (or perhaps this upcoming offseason)... it would be interesting in this climate what already-paid player a team would give up for CQ's cheap contract. As great as Carlos was last year, if we're honest with ourselves, we can get at least somewhat close to his 08 production from another corner outfielder. And healthier. It's like moving Carlos Lee in a way. Quentin is a better hitter but sometimes you have to bite the bullet to fill niche spots like leadoff hitter, etc. As great as Pods has been, we still need a young leadoff hitter. Hopefully, Carlos destroys it the rest of this year and we can never cross this bridge.
  11. Kotsay gives us more at PH than any of those retreads will give us in any capacity. Just as I've always said in past moves, I'm perfectly fine with taking on this salary if it means they're gonna keep spending. It's kinda smart in the sense that free agents havent shown theyre dying to come here. I hope the negotiations dont lead to something horrible that offsets the salary we take back. Like sending them Linebrink and Flowers or something along those lines. Most likely we're just going to say hey we'll take him for free, ball is in your court.
  12. Lollapalooza has taken me over for a day straight. I taped the game but heard it was a loss. How horrible was the fielding, how much was Buehrle's fault, etc?
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 08:40 PM) No, I mean Tony Pena did not net the Sox Brandon Allen, it is the other way around. i never said that. gotta reread carefully
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 08:34 PM) You make too many threads. You should take pity on me, i'm like a 80 yr old grandma
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) reverse that dont get me wrong, i'm in favor of the trade too, but if you take money completely out of it, Peña was having a worse year than Linebrink. So it's enough to make me ponder the possibilities
  16. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) He's useless in my mind with Peavy here and Torres and Hudson as fifth starter options I actually cant remember a time that had more uncertainty in the fifth starter spot. 04? Uncertainty during important times, that is. There's no guarantee Torres succeeds. And if that #4 spot right now seems perfect to you, I might point out that Contreras #s are approaching(in some cases worse than) what Bartolo had. As hideous as Bartolo's BAA is, i would trot him out there if he was healthy.
  17. Obviously he doesnt get us anything great... and I realize his contract his huge But seeing as how the ERA is good....and yeah, some of the other numbers not so good..... But if Peña can net a Brandon Allen, couldnt someone exchange us another overpaid type?.... perhaps slightly less bloated contract. Granted he's been babied like crazy with when we're putting him in, but other teams dont necessarily have to realize that.... or let themselves realize it if they're begging for relief depth. What do you guys think he's worth if he remains a 2.61 ERA, 1.53 WHIP type guy?
  18. The quick reply aspect of this medium is ridiculously addictive
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) You mean doubles into singles and triples into doubles? Kind of obvious you responded to a post you hadnt read but ten words of... probably done it myself.
  20. Grandma took a little spill at the sand dunes today. Broke her KOTsay
  21. The solace I do take is no AJ....and while I like Kotsay's at-bats earlier, we do need Quentin in there to help get pitch counts up, and the rest he gives us at this point is gravy. Mark will be a great PH for us
  22. Stop tiptoeing around it Hawk. We're not good enough to sweep team after team. Our defense is horrid. We have to play above our heads defensively to beat good teams. The other categories we are good enough in, but bad defense will come up and bite you one out of every 3 or 4 days. The rest of the days we have the occasional power outage like any other team, so that's about a .500 ballclub.
  23. Time to round up those clappers i just saw and revoke their fancards
