QUOTE (RME JICO @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 04:31 PM) Counting Peavy, top 4 Sox pitchers with ERA's under 4.00 as Danks drops to 3.87. I'm cool with as many things as possible lining up with 05 not cool with alexei's seeming lack of bunt willingness

Alexei will really hurt us defensively one day. I'd like to say he can improve, but the tallish gallop-ness just doesnt work for me at that position.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) would KC please just win one game before getting swept next week? Lets see 2 innings of the Mexicutioner, so they can hold onto this current score and also so he wont see us tomorrow

Hmm.... Jayson batting last, which seems right -- though were he having enough atbats to qualify, he'd be 18th most likely AL player to homer, 31st most likely in all MLB. ! And just now he's starting to draw walks. It'll be interesting to see how he finishes up his season.

Another sweep set up game!!
If we fail to sweep em, lets not absolutely set off an h-bomb in here. We could fail to sweep and still be pretty good. We might sweep them and still be sliced in thirds by Boston very soon.

I'm for cutting Contreras
We've always been against using JC as a reliever because he has been pretty open about not liking it. But isnt possible he might better at this, at this stage at his career? For a few straight outings he has looked good early and then completely fallen apart, like off a cliff style That doesnt tell us anything specific, but we do need RH from the pen so maybe it be experimented with. As far as totally bouncing him, I dunno. He's been the kind of guy that can be unhittable or impossibly bad for stretches. As sad as that sounds, it still could be valuable for us if he has that kind of upswing again.

Podsednik is bad at baserunning
QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) So apparently, as of RIGHT NOW, Boers claims that "his guy" with the Sox says they are likely to re-sign Pods with CQ in right. Figgins is not in play. Then reinvest that savings in a power DH that CAN play another position for IL/WS games Only following that would I be fine with it.

Podsednik is bad at baserunning
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) He's a good 4th outfielder who has been miscast as the leadoff hitter of this team. He might be the best the Sox can run out there though, so really, it's all moot. FWIW, since all-star break: Pods .288/.333 Rios .266/.315 That not-so-difficult-to-swallow disparity plus the defense benefits may be enough to get the winds of change sweeping in

Podsednik is bad at baserunning
I'm starting to come over to the oust Pods sentiment He's been having a great OBP year. Everything else has been suspect of course, as is his way. But now my worries about that high average are creeping up. He's getting a lot of infield hits, which is great...but when we face great teams, especially in the playoffs, we cant count on him being able to poke and slap at some of the greatest pitchers in the game. We've gotta get Rios a lot of starts, and get him centerfield for all close games by the later innings.

Ex teammates on Rios
To be as highly regarded a defensive player as he is.....he must hustle to some extent.. Also clubhouses can be catty. Griffey had all these negative stories surrounding him but was loved here. You just cant tell what a fresh start will be.

Ex teammates on Rios
Well hopefully soon he can start working for that new contract It's also worth pointing out that this sort thing is far from an anomaly. That's the current athlete. We wish they'd all motivate themselves to the highest level, but we have plenty of guys here who dont explode out of the batters box, who dont go that extra mile. That type of guy who busts it 24/7 is now the exception not the norm.
