  1. we have the intelligence level of that beauty pageant contestant girl that said "The Iraq" Tough to judge but I think he couldve gotten back to second the second he saw it was fielded
  2. Chuck Garfine says they seem to expect a 30 min plus rain delay weather.com indicates after the 8oclock hour it's much improved
  3. If this game rained out, and then I bought a ticket for the makeup tomorrow morning........... would i still get the cheaper rate?
  4. The Score 670 is playing tape of KW being upset about yesterday's game (and other games like it) "Hell no, I'm not happy...we're underachievers period." "You have to play well enough, play smart enough, intense enough" to show "you wanna be in the playoffs" "it cant just be lip service" Played at 5:24pm on Boers and Bernstein in case anyone wants to check their Podspot when it goes up later today. The 5PM hour would probably be put up around 6:20 or so.
  5. Wise had a big hit in the playoffs last year, had a gamewinning hit vs the Yankees this year, had an important catch to preserve a victory (and injure his shoulder), and had a The Catch during the perfect game. He has done some good things in very important situations. Whether or not clutchness is a special skill, he has some track record for coming through in big moments....other guys are known for doing it only when it doesnt matter. Since Wise is the opposite I'm fine with him being a backup outfielder. He can PH and PR pretty darn well, and has now earned respect for his glove. I'm not going to be like one of these posters that expects the 25th man to play as well as a starter, and if it doesnt happen he gets all huffy about it. I no longer going to overstate the guy's abilities, but he's fine as a backup. Grabbing a bat cold and pinch hitting, that unquestionably is a skill that only some have. Last yr he was our best PH i believe.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) I don't understand this statement. We have been inconsistent all year long. What would change in the post season when we face the opposing team's best pitchers? The big x-factor is peavy. It's a great bunch of starters you can put into a series, and there could even be some way of overworking those guys to make up for bullpen crappiness. Also if they get all these new faces slotted right in a lineup, things would be great. I still thnk something has to be done with Beckham as he may serve us better at #1 or #3. He's great everywhere but we need to maximize things
  7. What would you guys think of an offseason that brought back Pods or Thome super cheap.....brought in Holliday...and addressed the pen in no way at all?
  8. I will say this...if Pods keeps being THIS bad in OF, you will see Dye and Thome both back. The FA market sucks this yr so maybe we try to just go one more year with each. Obviously Dye's option is huge but if there's really nothing else they want to spend on, it's conceivable. And then you can cash in with a trade later on. Also, thatd be the kind of offseason that, sadly, is fanbase friendly. You open up the possibility that way of the enticing 1.Bacon 2.AR 3.Thome 4.Quentin 5. Dye 6.AJP 7.Konerko 8. Rios 9. Getz Your best hitter gets the most atbats and Alexei gets his fastballs again.
  9. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) My best-case scenario is Kenny signing Hank Blalock and letting both Thome and Dye leave as FAs. But with the recent financial commitments to Peavy and Rios, I don't see it happening. They need to spend on the bullpen before anything else. Having Thome's left-handed bat for one more year would be nice, but this lineup desperately needs to get younger. I love the thought of Blaylock, but then the chain of events to follow would push another lefty bat out - Getz Although it's gonna be all the rage next offseason to get something for the Cuban Miss-SS-ill, as in his misses at SS make me ill. I will be here all week.
  10. We need more guys who can get that .370 OBP. Not very handy with the bat. I like our staff, at its absolute worst it's stocked with a bunch of 2s. If everything else was in place, this pen would be enough...as it is we cant hit well enough to put them in enough easy games where they can coast. After all the work we've done, I still just think we're not that good a hitting team, point blank.
  11. It'll be a resounding slap to the face of Pods if they DH him tonight. I for one hope it happens. That'd mean they prefer to play a guy in LF who actually would benefit health wise from some DH time.
  12. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 11:21 AM) Yeah, I agree. He's also nothing more than a late-inning pinch hitter in interleague games. With no other move, we're way too righthanded at that point. Perhaps we can convince Kotsay to come back with a semi-platoon offer. I figure if the Sox traded Rowand for Thome, they were willing to look past his uselessness in IL and WS games. So if they cut ties with him now, it'll be solely due to age and his HR/walk predictability.
  13. Whats the earliest i can get there tomorrow to get tickets? Also is there some halfprice thing going on Tuesday? i heard upper deck sold out
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) This season, prior to today, his ERA in save situations was 3.49, non-save situations was 4.26. Not terrible, but not good. But he's only had 13 innings in non-save situations; like 1 or 2 runs is a huge difference. It would be interesting though to look at one-run lead save situations. After all we've all seen those save chances where he has a few runs leeway and gives up those runs, still gets the save. He seems like the classic guy who cant overpower anyone but gets hasty hitters in save situations, and doesnt tend to get those guys out when there's more balanced pressure on both hitter and pitcher. Also, lets face it - in tied away games, once that first run crosses, there's no more opportunity for your ERA to rise. In situations where you give up two runs and still get the save....ERA is hurt more, but you were technically completing that very specialized task we expect of closers (get the job done)
  15. had nix been called out on that, ozzie probably would have bodyslammed an ump
  16. Wow, thats the worst call ive evr seen I wonder what the most obvious blown call ever actually is. That would be more entertaining than straight blooper reels
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) For a guy who is supposed to be all world with the glove, Nix sure does make his share of physical and mental errors. Nix can turn two but he's been awful in all other respects so far thisyr
  18. Nix stay with the play, jesus
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) Nice hit JD! No DPs allowed Thome. Guarantee you he will not hit into one. If there's missed time, here's hoping my Pods as DH post comes true.
  20. JD continuing to look better lately. We need it.
  21. With Griffey in center the current inning is still ongoing. Well 'with Griffey in center' can lead to a lot of interesting predicates to the sentence.
  22. Bravo Danks, bravo. stepping up
  23. Hold up that lead any way possible. Good job rios.
  24. Everidge vs lefties this year, 6 for 16 three doubles
  25. Big difference with Kotsay v a lefty though.
