Peavy Rehab #2 and 8/18 Games
Unfortunately I just got back from a workout and just caught the tail end of it. He got hit pretty hard by one guy to left field corner. Another hit to CF was bobbled by the fielder so the amount of damage mightve been a shade worse than it had to be. Still, it's probably fair to assume at this point he's finished as a major leaguer

Why Chris Getz Injury Is Good for the Sox
If they can both be .325 OBP guys, then I have to side with the extra power Nix gives you. Because while we are sick of being homer dependent, it's good to get that from the guys that arent carrying your team. Especially w/ our park. I normally wouldnt take this stance, but Nix is so impressive right now in AB/HR that it's enough to give us that Uribe/Crede effect....you get enough homers from your infield to account for several valuable wins per yr. In short though I like the platoon.

I mean, that part I do not fault them for, Murph is a radio anomaly and not in the good way.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) if you mean B & B you'd be suprised. They're playing exagerated characters of themselves. Boers is a friend of my brother-in-laws dad and Bernstein a friend of a friend of my uncles and both are actually very nice guys. Well who am I kidding I would have the beer. But man if some of the things Boers says about Murph is an act, it is one good one.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 01:17 PM) What's the gist? Stats v. 'nuanced' perspective i guess. The fact that a real leadoff hitter exists makes the team better makes others better. Just the sort of thing B&B hate. Spiegel got on Bernstein for apparently giggling like a toddler when Pods misplayed the deep fly in Oakland. Bernstein says he has a separate love for the Sox vs. his love of seeing baseball expected things happen/return to the norm. He also says he just loves watching Pods flop around in the OF from a comedic point of view. They argued about what the future holds for Pods and how misleading his BABIP is this yr Just all around entertaining. I hope I dont sound like a B&B fanboy. I would not want a beer with either of those guys, but it's entertaining radio. Especially when someone tries to step up against them. Spiegel is clearly overmatched but gives it his all. Kind of like one of their callers if they had 15 min to go at it. During all this Boers and McNeil pretty much went off mic and vanished.

Bernstein and Spiegel REALLY getting into it over Podsednik starting off the 1:00 hour on the Score They start out talking about Ron Turner and then turn to Pods. Very entertaining radio. check it out on the podspot later for sure.

can we use Carrasco in the 8th?
As far as our righties go, i mean obviously there are situations that are tailormade for the K or HR ness of Dotel But in those other situations, I want Carrasco over Linebrink. At this point what is the situation tailormade for Linebrink? Deportation?

Who would you rather have starting at 2b?
QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) Nix all the way man. He's like cockrock, you can't go wrong. I've always read on here that Oz doesn't put enough emphasis on defense and too much on speed. So then why Getz over Nix? I understand the whole added lefty, better average added to it. I still choose Nix. Now if we can just find a way to get Deweezy more at bats.... It's odd, but with our declined HR numbers from a few different positions in the lineup...Nix actually helps us be better tailored to our park's specifics. Although, I do like that use of two lefties in a row: 9-Getz/1-Pods one two punch. Tempts managers to put in their good lefty against those two in clutch situations. At that point you can PH Nix for Getz.....and then the guy is left in to face Pods who is hitting LHP well.

can we use Carrasco in the 8th?
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) I think we can definitely use Carrasco in the 8th, especially if we dont want to win the division I probably wasnt at all clear, but I'm envisioning games like yesterday where the tough lefties come up in the 7th and we happen to have righties coming up in the 8th.

can we use Carrasco in the 8th?
I'm getting the same sorts of answers, and good catch hogan on my misuse of the word 'can' but this is a lot like Beckham at 2b...yes this type of player has more VALUE at a certain position...but what good does that do us when we are at home during the playoffs? The point about Garcia/Contreras is actually something i see a reverse way. Once Peavy's here, something has to happen with one of these guys. If Garcia does well, we might want him to be the long relief guy in a playoff series. Then Carrasco necessarily will be more of a situational guy. When Carrasco comes in during the 6th in a close game....is that tons less pressure than a close game in the 8th? I dont think the acclimation period would have to be that long.
-
can we use Carrasco in the 8th?
Why is he stuck in a long relief role? I know he's been successful there, but what's wrong with putting the guy with the most success in the most serious situations Especially if it's now a need. Yeah, you made other acquisitions to fill that role...now you'll i guess let hubris drag the record down in your hope of defending those acqusitions.

AAP: Tyler Flowers
In September we actually could get use out of him as a right handed PH.

If PK slumps like JD did we have to stay consistent and get on em Meanwhile I have new genius solutions. Kotsay in left and JD at DH. We improve defensively and get more lefthanded

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) My maybe great solution: Do what it takes for Holliday. Say goodbye to Pods AND Dye. If payroll is stressed, AJP can be traded in a pure dump. It'd hurt but would be a move that has to happen at some point soon anyway. Flowers will be 24 when next yr starts. Cool, i'm still 100% on requesting moves and the criticized guys getting hits almost immediately.
