8/29 Thread - Sox vs Yankees - 12:05pm CDT on WGN
KILL KILL KILL JOSE CONTRERAS THAKN YOU FOR 05 Oddly enough if this year were actually a contending team, it would hurt a lot more to see Jose fall apart and become a shell of his past self. Well to see him continue being a shell of his past self. In short I feel like the last few yrs he has had decent stretches but this year he's just been completely totally done.

8/29 Thread - Sox vs Yankees - 12:05pm CDT on WGN
Ive mentioned it before, but i think Jose shouldve been tried as a reliever long ago. Very often has a good first inning or two, then loses focus. Not great at holding people on. OK now i'm trying to think of good things...

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 12:23 PM) It was definitely a missed call but CATCH THE BALL NIX! If he catches the ball, not only is there no problem here, but we might get a double play. Blaming the ump there is kind of like Pitino blaming the media. If you dont commit the initial mistake, none of the other baggage piles on. OK it's like that but w/o the group sex.

This defense. Is this year over yet? Go Chicago Fire. Last game they were down 2-0 in the 70th minute and scored 3 straight goals to come back and win in regulation Lets just root for that team instead.

FIRE WALKER
Our current problems are the older guys not doing what they used to do - as well as Quentin having an entire year of readjusting post-injury. So it's not on Walker, it's on older guys that used to be able to do it--not being able to do it anymore. And above all, on KW for not taking advantage of the great buyers market with guys like Hudson and Abreu out there....and then going ahead and spending way more on Rios and Peavy (2010 onward that is). I'm fine with the 2 we acquired, but it just highlights how we couldve spent and didnt before the year. I know Hudson woulda cost picks. But he's great and fills needs.

Contreras to start again?
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 04:31 PM) Contreras should be starting Saturday now that Peavy can't go. Otherwise the Sox have to cut/DL somebody to make room for the spot starter. Since they haven't used Jose out of the bullpen, they might as well start him Saturday. Because of that roster expansion, I think DL-ing Lillibridge would make sense ...PR is his best attribute and that can be replaced with a call-up. Granted I dont know when Hudson's last start was.......but just on a theoretical level, dont you start Hudson against the Yanks and just pray --hey it's a live arm with control, assume you have a fighting chance seeing as how they've never seen him before... at least enough to get you through 5 to get to Carrasco? I wouldnt say this if Jose hadnt been so consistently bad besides the KC start.

Contreras to start again?
the update also mentioned that Colon is AWOL again. Can the Sox fine him in order to recoup some of that salary? What the hell?

Contreras to start again?
670 is kind of teasing this right now on the radio so he'll go in depth in a minute when he's on(Cowley) Theyre making it sound like it's Jose for sure.

Kazmir possibly to Angels
Would this mean Rays are less likely to trade Crawford? Could it also mean Bobby Abreu leaves LAA next yr? Could have ramifications for Sox plans.

If Ozzie benched Swish for Wise
QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) That's an incredibly silly comparison. Contreras hasn't been consistently good since early 2006. Dye was hitting over .300 with 20 HRs right before the ASB. Dye's already been dropped in the order and has gotten several days off lately. What else do you want them to do? DFA him? It wasnt a comparison of players though. Just the situations. What was brought up is -- paraphrased:"think about 05 before you let him go" In my view, you should never think about 05 for anything having to do with 2009 or 2010. 2005 is for the DVD player alone. I would agree if someone said i'm being too finicky but it's just a consideration that some make which bothers me. Here's the exact quote

ESPN Feature on AJ
While I agree that many fans dont know exactly why they boo him....... c'mon, he'd be exactly the kind of guy on the other team we'd hate. One person I know said he has one of those "punchable faces" Hell, we've hated him when he was a Twin, no? Most of us dont know these guys personally, but we overblow reasons for both loving or hating pro athletes. Twin fans have a very specific problem with him. Apparently he once stepped (obviously hard) on Morneau's ankle on a close place at first, and (while I cant say I remember the replay) it's been told to me that the foot did not at all look like it was in his direct line of running.

White Sox/Yankees
Stick with the minimalist thread title approach. Also Kotsay we should stick with. In August, .348/.407/.522 EDIT: But maybe not vs. C.C. Rios and Dye have hit CC well in the past. Pods barely at all.

If Ozzie benched Swish for Wise
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) this season would've been over before July had Dye not hit .302 before the break. Keep it in mind while you're kicking a world series MVP out the door. Shall we keep Contreras in the rotation? He was arguably the 05 staff ace. I think one thing that separated this organization from the Cubs, especially the 80s-90s Cubs, is their willingness to make moves that you need to make. The Cubs kept trotting out lovable favorites like Dunston,Grace, long after their peak usefulness. The organization has long been a business first, contending-hopefuls second. Meanwhile, things like the White Flag trade, while unpopular --were our best course of action. We've won. The Sox will do things the public doesnt like, but they have to be done. It's like raising a kid. You do things for the kid that are for their best interests, even though they dont realize it/like it. I'm not like people here that are hating on Dye verbally, I just feel like it's time the organization either keep him here super cheap, or cut ties. More likely the latter.

White Sox/Red Sox
QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) Won't matter. Those .375 obp guys will get into scoring position and will pop up into foul territory, strike out, or ground into a double play. Eventually you need someone with some balls and can step up in the clutch. Then next inning - we'll do it again. This is the team I expected to see all season. Had it not been for Detroit being god awful and Minnesota struggling - we wouldn' be remotely in one of these races. What a pathetic bunch of players. I'm not really in agreement with every point on this. I think there's two position players that need to be replaced with established still-productive vets. Both are corner outfielders. That's replaceable. I dont put it past them to go out and get Abreu on a short term deal this offseason. That takes care of one. DH....well we'll see. I have my own thoughts on how to handle that within the system, but it involves bringing in Flowers and a utility guy who can catch. A cheap viable solution. Thome my homie can always return if he's willing to take a huge discount just to chase the ring and 600.

If Ozzie benched Swish for Wise
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 09:29 AM) I'm for it, but Ozzie is exceedingly loyal, which is both good and bad. You won't see Dye benched for awhile yet. I cant wait til we have the first manager to visibly use laptops in the dugout. I am not anti-ozzie but that loyalty thing really has hurt us. Honestly we probably won it in 05 because a lot of longstanding bonds had just been broken, a lot of the team was brand new.

FIRE WALKER
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 09:24 AM) At this point I would not re-sign Dye, Thome, or Contreras. I only hope we can find a serviceable left handed hitter with pop in the free agent market or in a trade (Alexei). The only thing that makes think about retaining Thome...his lack of suitors this offseason (due to him being a tough fit, AL only, wants contenders) So he could come back cheap. Maybe time to drop him in the order though. I do want a power hitting lefty, but lets say NYY takes Holliday....... if Jason Bay were affordable, I'd have to think about it. Word from my BoSox friends is that Boston will not try to resign him. That would leave us til 2010 for finding more lefty bats. Assuming Thome lasts the whole year.

FIRE WALKER
We have guys who have hit before who are no longer hitting. That points to a personnel problem, not a problem with the hitting coach. It's time to overhaul aging portion of the team. Also, Ebert's awesome.

White Sox/Red Sox
The Sox are trying hard. We're just not that good offensively. We need some of those handy .375 OBP types. Other-Sox sure have em.
-
If Ozzie benched Swish for Wise
Kotsay still hits righties. We need more lefty bats in there. Meanwhile, Dye isnt hitting much of anyone. Have Kotsay take Dye's place in the big platoon.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 09:22 PM) Nice trade Kenny. Brandon should be laughing somewhere. Laughing with his .167/.231 in 12 atbats? If anything it's just a slight chuckle this far in.
