  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:24 PM) Is this a good post? Yes. Does it all make sense? Yes. Would everyone posting this way be a good thing? No. I kid because I care™ This sort of thing is annoying hearing it from a speaker, but reading it the annoyance isnt as potent
  2. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:18 PM) He'd be lucky to get half that. Look what Willy Taveras got (1) in a bad market (2) coming off less success than Pods There's a serious leadoff hitter dearth. If he can convince a team of his passable CF play, he will get a good sized one year deal
  3. Honestly, I could see Dye sitting in the most immediate days following this. CQ needs to keep trying to get hot, whereas Dye just needs to be out of RF. Pods is hitting .324 against lefties with high OBP, so if any platoon is happening, it's going to be Dye as a DH v. lefties. This is reminiscent of the Griffey acquisition, KW is just telling Ozzie to sort it out.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:14 PM) I've always wanted to ask you this. You seem to have a genuine dislike for Pods that goes beyond his on-field performance. Why is that? For some reason there's a very real anti-Pods faction that has to do with nonbaseball related stuff. He kind of has that Rex Grossman type personality that (while perfectly OK to me) rubs some people the wrong way.
  5. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:07 PM) while the Bulls prove to be one of the most poorly managed teams in the world. Yeah those six championships notwithstanding In all seriousness though, NBA is so dynasty and star-driven, with a cap on top of it. Frankly you are a bad GM only if you fail to draft a star with a high pick. The Bulls havent had the extremely good luck to get a #1 pick in the LeBron year, so really they're in the same boat as so many other organizations. Meanwhile the White Sox were able to win a title with a piecemeal approach to their 04-05 offseason. In MLB, one can do that. I hate to say it, but it's just flat out easier to make yourself better.
  6. Very glad that my scenario of about an hour ago is totally wrong! Woo !
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) Is he? .783 OPS? Ah, maybe I wasnt clear but I was talking about a hypothetical for '10
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) Who do you think is more popular in Toronto....Halladay or Rios? It's certainly a motivation. If I'm the Jays, I'm going to do all possible to turn Halladay into real blue chip prospects. There's no hope of winning the East with piecemeal free agent signings. Now that Rolen is out, a parallel move would be turning the 32-yr old Halladay into some people that could help them eventually rival NYY and BOS. I agree with you that Halladay is more popular, but the question is not so simple. The question is which is less popular: Trading Halladay for excellent prospects, or giving away Rios for nothing? Either way TOR is ready to take a hit from their fanbase.
  9. It really does bring up an interesting question if all these circumstances come about at odds w/ each other maybe around the end of 2010. We're still winning despite going younger. AJP is still productive. Flowers is killing at AAA but will very obviously need adapting time with handling a staff.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) The Jays' payroll was $81 million this season. As for next season? On the books for 2010 are Vernon Wells at $16.143 million (plus his $8.5 million final bonus instalment next March); Halladay at $15.75 million; Ryan at $12 million; Rios at $10.12; Lyle Overbay at $7 million; Encarnacion at $4.75 million; and Aaron Hill and Scott Downs at $4 million each. That's $82.26 million. Source: http://www.torontosun.com/sports/columnist...411851-sun.html My guess is Rios will be ours before noon tomorrow. But this year they dont save much by launching Rios. So if they like Rios and like his youth... ....they can immediately cut into that '10 payroll any second they want this offseason by moving Halladay. And actually get something back along with the money savings. hope they are just plain tired of rios though.
  11. QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) Because flowers is hitting a robust .300/.333/.450 .783 at AAA and .302/.426/.529 .956 across two levels. AJ is making $6.25M for next year in 2010. AJ should be able to bring us a couple of nice looking prospects and that 6.25 could be better spent when you have a cheap opition at catcher that is just about ML ready. If we're constructed for 'win now', we are sticking with AJ. Looking at our staff and the recent investment made in it, it's safe to say that's our focus. Now if at the next trading deadline this team goes south, options with AJ might be explored.
  12. It'd be nice to send a failed former first rounder that at least on paper defends the Jays' move to their fanbase. So, were he still here, it'd be nice to be trading Lance Broadway there in this situation. McCulloch obviously no one would like to categorize in that way as of this moment.
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 12:33 AM) This is all contingent based on weather or not we get Rios. If we get Rios we can kiss Dye goodbye, which is why KW was kind of pissed about the lack of secrecy regarding the Rios claim. If everything remained a secret then Dye has no idea the Sox are considering parting ways with him. Even if this is true, that Dye would be out next year.....in the short term we can placate him by telling him - hey next year we could still envision you as a DH who can play outfield in interleague.
  14. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) well wood is wild it'd be nice for alexei to take some pitches here k's lookin
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) Honestly, why does it matter who wins that game? All three teams will be hanging around in the end. Even with their schedule, Minny does not have the pitching this year. Theyre about to fold
  16. They should give play of the game to the HR that went off his glove
  17. I would honestly open up both those 4 and 5 spots. Gimme a look at every possible candidate: Colon, Garcia, Hudson, Torres, Carrasco. We cant count on being set with a 5 even when Peavy arrives
  18. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) It is kinda ugly to watch As in our defense period. Gah
  19. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) Quentin is getting absolutley abused in LF. It is kinda ugly to watch
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 02:39 PM) Ugh the only time I ever want to see a DP is in a porno. used to mean "displaced person" as well http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Displaced_person
  21. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) what happened i was watching the twins/tigers gm Following a double, there was a sharp grounder to first and Kotsay rifled it to Beckham for the put out
  22. Kotsay doing something we're not used to round here. Peña has been bailed out by some great defense so far.
  23. Even in these recent losses, seeing CQ starting to return to form....it's been great to witness
  24. I wish we could just start Jose against big strike zone umps
