  1. Griff is probably like - ah so alexei really can hit HRs
  2. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:02 PM) sexi time? o ya cradle time
  3. it's been 3 hours of general nonspecific baseball talk,w/ occasional brief updates of what's happening in the game
  4. Big Jim/Little Jim thing is seriously the funniest thing Hawk has ever said. I am not joking.
  5. there should be a penalty for not acknowledging quickly enough that you have/havent caught it
  6. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 11:18 AM) Wise has done pretty good since his recall and does add speed. But, I think Brian Anderson is a better fit right now and Griffey bats lefty and BA is a righty so that helps BA. the point was made earlier that Swisher is better than any of these guys against lefties, so pitching matchups might not be a reason to ever play BA anyway. it really does come down to late inning basestealer PR vs. late inning defense in center. my position is Wise gives you the former and most of the latter, whereas BA only gives you the latter in full.
  7. interestingly, you could also keep Alexei in mind as a late inning CF replacement, with Juan going to 2nd which means if you want a lefty bat you keep Wise. although i dont know how we evaluate Alexei's short time in CF this year.
  8. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 01:30 AM) There are more than a few guys with bump ups. Dotel goes from 5 to 6 Linebrink goes from 4 to 4.5 MacDougal actually gets around a 600K bump Thornton gets about a 500K bump Hall has a 2.25M TO AJ gets about a 600K bump Dye gets a 2 million dollar bump Swisher gets an almost 2 million dollar bump Jenks does infact go to ARB. god looking at the available shortstops and second basemen, you almost just want to keep OC and have the D and semi-leadoff hitter in place one way or the other. it just doesnt look like there's a CF spot open to give someone, and i dont know who i'd want to give it to anyway. Swisher likely is the CF next yr unless other moves happen.
  9. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 01:21 AM) Crede at 5.1, Cabrera at 9, and Uribe at 4.5, there is going to be money to play with, and those are only the "locks" to be off the books. Jenks enters arb next yr, no? But yea - who else could be off books? Thome likely to stay, but Hall maybe gone? I'd be a crappy GM but i want to get one outstanding guy with most of that money and then somehow hope we have a 2b and leadoff hitter finally.
  10. although interestingly, you may figure that to win next yr, you need to cobble together a DH out of two injury prone guys in Grif/Thome Kind of like Everett/Thomas ended up working out
  11. Konerko's here to stay, so you cut ties with Griffey and use your saved money (from OC, Crede) to get a younger impact guy that can grow alongside CQ et al for years to come.
  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 11:47 PM) Brian hits .196 against lefties. The platoon is a horrible idea. He goes deep against them, but nothing else. vs LHP, with Swisher at .207, Griffey at .212 - they'll take BA's defense and probably do it that way anyway EDIT: wauu, Swisher's OBP against LHP is ridiculous. ok i'm back to my pro-Wise stance.
  13. I guess an argument against me also is that against lefties you can put PK and BA out there and sit GriffSwish.
  14. also sub-sub point, we could be working our way towards a situation where you could consider leaving Paulie off a playoff roster. if they try one of the other OFs at first, and it's a big success, you'd really have to think about it.
  15. Hmm, see I hear everyone who says we need the best defensive replacement b/c the outfield is going to be a weak point in late innings But the same case can be made for baserunners in the 8th inning. More likely than not, a clutch situation baserunner in the playoffs is going to be slow. b/c of Alexei we can be kind of flexible and likely get Wise in there for anyone when it's a 2-1 ballgame and we need a run or we're done. I guess it's what you dont want to bite you more, bad CF defense or slowness in a big time situation. I have this horrible feeling that we'll have a palm-to-forehead moment in the playoffs when we're quite simply asking ourselves "how did we not have THAT on the roster."
  16. If at all. And sub question - which matters more, defensive CF or a potential PR. We dont really have a PR, which makes me think Wise has a chance of staying up here. He's the most complete of the real CFs here. No QUESTION i'd rather have Wise on a playoff roster over BA. kind of like Pablo when he got in there in the playoffs and made a serious difference on the basepaths. or like Willie Harr...ok i'll lay off the rum now.
  17. Tonight is step one in proving my (hopeful) theory that KG Jr simply didnt care in Cincy that displeasure with the overall team's prospects hurt his play such is the way with superstars.
  18. as soon as he mentioned gomez this inning i think everyone thought of the board and/or ran to it.
