Jose upset that Ozuna's leaving, per Cowley
Princess Dye replied to DaTank's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Even if Jose did yell at Ozzie, that is fine. That's in house, and exactly how an issue like this should be handled. Ozzie sets the tone for there to be heated exchanges. Yelling is on the table with him. Now Ozzie saying F Jose Contreras to the media, I have a little more of a problem with. I'm far from an Ozzie hater, but I want my organization transparent, not my manager/player dealings. There's really no need for that. -
Phew, awesome. Caption: "Sean Gallagher is happy to be on the West Coast!"

Crap. I hope Gallagher doesnt reshoot his ESPN photo with an OAK hat. Noooooo

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) But the '05 team was very damn good at winning by 1 or 2. That is much more exciting. That's playing baseball. True, but I think with our pen this will get taken care of. Especially if the non-homer run scoring keeps up like it has been a bit lately. Situational hitting has been the last piece of the puzzle for this thing. If that doesnt get consistent, it's end thread on this one - i totally agree.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) In first place from wire to wire and 11-1 in the post season. It doesn't get any better than that. One thing though... that team didnt get tons better from beginning of year to end. It was just steadily very good with a blip late in the year. This team has that potential. Better pen, lineup being worse than its history so far.... and a few starters learning as they go but still near All-Star level. Also, '08 has more win-by-8 potential than '05. But other things not done nearly as well.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 11:28 AM) He should have been prepared. This board has been debating Uribe/Ozuna for weeks. Not so set in stone that Ozuna wasnt in KC with the team on the trip. Mustve added to the surprise factor, in my view. But the surprise thing is moot anyway. You cant prepare yourself for saying goodbye to a friend and coworker, it's just something that sucks, and his reaction is very understandable. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) Seriously, Did Jose secretly marry Pablo after he divorced his wife? Because I don't know how you can be so damn upset over a DFA. Things happen all the time in the Majors, guys get dealt and released, Jose needs to deal with it. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 08:15 AM) The team has seem to not take this news like men.Its pretty disgraceful,THERE IS NO CRYING IN BASEBALL! For everyone feeling this way, then lets never again say that athletes care only about money, and that they are cold and have no care for the team or the game. We suddenly approve of the Maggs Ordonez and Albert Belle philosophy. Cool. On top of all this, did Contreras even really speak out to the media? Did he get himself quoted?? Not from what I can tell. Cowley, pretty much a sniveling pud from what he writes in his Twitters, ran this thing for NO APPARENT REASON. Newsflash, guy gets fired, his coworkers feel bad. It's happening in 250 offices downtown right now, and it should be no shock and no front page news when it happens in the White Sox office. -

If someone i'm friends w/ at the office gets fired, i'm upset. That's all that is. No reason to call Jose a child or whatever people are saying here. Not really a news story, but also it's silly to slam Jose for that when it's a natural reaction. People get traded, get upset about it, then it passes. -

being down 2 runs to the Royals pen is like being down 8 to another teamGREEN -
Comparing the two pitching staffs, I think Vaz is obviously your Garland... and oddly Floyd is the Contreras, in that he hadnt lived up to expectations in MLB after a few years trying (and Floyd isnt actually extremely young either) Now hopefully MB is MB..... and then after that things can swing wildly one way or another. Freddy was a 3.80-ish ERA guy who came up big in big games. I dont know that we have that big game pitcher here, which scares me. I'd like to think that's the new Contreras, but it's probably pushing it. And Danks obviously beats out the remainder of that year's rotation, which was a revolving door... but then again we have to see how he handles his longest pitching year ever. At present, the back of our rotation is a lot more solid, but I see no absolute killer at the ace spot. Danks has looked the most mentally prepared for that type of role. But...Still to be determined.

BA is 26. There's no more developing. This has been his best year, but it still hasnt been that great at the plate - gotta send him down. Ozuna gives you a pinch runner and the chance to move people around in late innings if you need to.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 09:30 AM) Actually, I think he was saying that he was 10 to 15 pounds lighter THEN, not now. Still, from what I have read, I think Carlos is one who is constantly messing with stances and swings anyway. yea thats how i read it too. there's still stuff we have no reliable test for..

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 09:17 PM) I found this interesting. It's a video of a Carlos Quentin home run for the Diamondbacks in May of 2007. His crouch is nowhere near as deep or pronounced as it is now, and he appears 10 to 15 pounds lighter than he is this year. Maybe Walker deserves some credit for working with him, because his stance is noticeably different now. the fact that Quentin is lighter (and rehabbing or about to rehab injuries) makes me want to air worries that would get me killed on these boards. that, and his dentist-visit style interviewing. these worries are definitely something i want lost in a Catch-All.

I trust Jose's best against a great team in one game. However, his worst is worse than anyone else's. Javy to me is the one least likely to perform at either the great or horrible extremes. Back when Ozzie chose Duque over Brandon, everyone thought it was a bad move. If this year carries out exactly as it has, it's scary to think that he might make the same type of decision. And scarier to think he'd be proven right again.

Funny article about Ozzie's E-mail

Mild humor is all Morrissey is good for now. Ever since he wrote that article about not wanting to trade Luol Deng for Kobe Bryant. -
I'm sure this thread has existed plenty before but if anyone wants to offer some other possibilities let me know and wow, he finished way too low in MVP voting that year ( http://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/awards_1998.shtml ). Roidness not withstanding.

And to expand a little further.... ...we all complain about not manufacturing runs, but really we havent had the personnel for it. but now with Ramirez and Wise lower in the order, we can start manufacturing runs w/ the lower part of the order, w/ bashers still interspersed between em. -

to me, waiting for PK to pick it up is too much of a risk in a race this close. Wise has .357 OBP going into today, we need to keep riding that out. -

at-bats like that one make me want us to resign OC short term for the 2-hole and get a leadoff hitter here. -

I'd rather suffer through even this amount of errors from Crede as opposed to not having that little bit of extra range that has saved some absolute missiles heading for shallow LF -
