That throw right there is why I was kind of glad AJ didnt make this team. With some of the smartest and fastest players in the game, you dont really want AJ needing to throw them out in a situation that decides the series home field adv

Sox Interested in Duchscherer
QUOTE (Harvin4Heisman @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) This is almost impossible. Do you guys remember what it took to get Swisher? MacDougal? It would take more than that COMBINED to get a Cy Young candidate mid-season!!!!!!! I'm not saying it can't happen, but sometimes we overrate our prospects, and when you have the worst farm system in all of baseball, you just can't trade everything you have left. It's like suicide for the next 5 years. JD is only under contract for a couple of years, PK is falling off the face of the earth, Crede/Thome/OC will be gone next year. And Javy and Contreras will be gone in two years. You have to think about the future also, not just the present. If we through all of our prospects into this deal, we will be lauding KW now but ripping him in the future. All I'm saying is we simply don't have the bullets to win now and not throw away our future. I'm agreeing with this. We have a chance to win the WS as presently constituted. I wouldnt trade that in for a somewhat greater chance this year+elimination of chance for that in years to come. AND elimination to get better via trade in years to come.

How much should we worry about Joe Crede?
Crede has gotten a lot of important RBIs this year. I dont see why we have to mentally enter free agency already when we're in the middle of a race. We get past this actual year first, and then go to the usual "oh my god, he turned his back on the only franchise that he's ever known" etc etc.

Rumor: Sox Amongst 9 Interested in Frederico
It would likely lead to this weird situation where he'd be expecting to start in the playoffs, but would likely be in the pen. Could be messy. It'll already be weird as is when Contreras is ending up in that position. Hopefully he can be comfortable trying to be the 05 Duque somehow.

Konerko BAD - Fire GOOD
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) Worst individual game in White Sox history. The more I keep hearing about this game, I'm glad I had to miss nearly the whole thing.

Loss thread, 1.5 games up at the all star break
I think they would bench Paulie. Ozzie's history dictates that he'll give the veteran every chance to get back, and then make a change. Granted, I'm probably thinking of closers (which is a little different)... but if there's a very long stretch of problems for a vet, Ozzie will give a younger player a chance.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 10:48 AM) Is that sarcasm? I just don't believe a guy can be doing awesome without having an average in the .270 to .275 range. Just my two sense. I love his periph's as they are very solid, but that average prevents him from being awesome. It doesnt really matter what you call it, it's the kind of performance that helps win games. I dont care a ton about what exact label we give it.

Rotating Konerko and Thome in the 2nd half...
on top of all this, thome is even a speed demon over pk

Should Dotel be the interim closer?
All pitchers go thru bad stretches with relievers, it means consecutive days of badness, so it hurts more. but Brink has his right now and i'm sure we'll be cursing out Dotel again one day too.

Should Dotel be the interim closer?
The real question is whether Russell wil have a 20 win year

Jose upset that Ozuna's leaving, per Cowley
Even if Jose did yell at Ozzie, that is fine. That's in house, and exactly how an issue like this should be handled. Ozzie sets the tone for there to be heated exchanges. Yelling is on the table with him. Now Ozzie saying F Jose Contreras to the media, I have a little more of a problem with. I'm far from an Ozzie hater, but I want my organization transparent, not my manager/player dealings. There's really no need for that.

The Trib goes there
QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) But the '05 team was very damn good at winning by 1 or 2. That is much more exciting. That's playing baseball. True, but I think with our pen this will get taken care of. Especially if the non-homer run scoring keeps up like it has been a bit lately. Situational hitting has been the last piece of the puzzle for this thing. If that doesnt get consistent, it's end thread on this one - i totally agree.

The Trib goes there
QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) In first place from wire to wire and 11-1 in the post season. It doesn't get any better than that. One thing though... that team didnt get tons better from beginning of year to end. It was just steadily very good with a blip late in the year. This team has that potential. Better pen, lineup being worse than its history so far.... and a few starters learning as they go but still near All-Star level. Also, '08 has more win-by-8 potential than '05. But other things not done nearly as well.

Jose upset that Ozuna's leaving, per Cowley
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 11:28 AM) He should have been prepared. This board has been debating Uribe/Ozuna for weeks. Not so set in stone that Ozuna wasnt in KC with the team on the trip. Mustve added to the surprise factor, in my view. But the surprise thing is moot anyway. You cant prepare yourself for saying goodbye to a friend and coworker, it's just something that sucks, and his reaction is very understandable.
