  1. i'm still upset about that morneau hr though f***
  2. crap i got engaged on the day ken griffey jr became a white sox i will always wrestle w/ the question of which event was more significant
  3. I wish we couldve seen more of this team with Wise. I mean what if he's that rare guy that figured some aspect of hitting out at age 30? it has happened before (Pods?) and this way we'll never have found out.
  4. oh my god, i dont think there has been a better GM on camera than KW. absolutely bodyslammed Offman just now.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) I would think Griffey has greater odds of being injured than any other White Sox. And Thome would be #2 on that list, so between the two of them they should be able to handle DH.
  6. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) We got a below average player. that does not solve a need. He won't DH (Thome is already there) I think it's presumptive to say that Thome will have nary an injury the rest of this year. And I prefer Griffey to Konerko for his replacement if that were to happen. You very easily raise the POSSIBILITY that Richar might turn into a decent pro, but you dont even acknowledge the MORE than possibility that Thome will have aches and pains throughout the rest of this year and may have to sit a bit. With superstar-mentality guys, you have to factor in that they're not going to go all out for a middling team. My hunch is that's the case with Griffey. When motivated, and looking for a ring, I wouldnt be surprised to see an upward spike in production. I'm as scared as anyone about him being in CF. I think in the end, however, they'll have a role for him that isnt that.
  7. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:21 AM) I've been wanting to use this picture as an avatar for years and now I have a reason, yahoo! "Giantism!!"
  8. Alexei to CF, Roberts at 2b. Then Griffey at 1st.
  9. My god, you could trade inj-prone CQ for like the best pitcher on the planet or something if the team wants to cut costs. OK ignore.
  10. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:15 AM) Why wouldn't teams that need offense make this move like Tampa? Why do that when they can take advantage of us with the deal WE'RE about to offer them.
  11. If that's the price, hey, more bats are cool to have. For some reason i have this feeling Swisher could be going to some costcutting team, since his contract is cheap
  12. We cant be called pretenders based on what's going on right now. We're a little too banged up to be judged completely. When healthy we're the most talented of the division's top two teams. And the Tigers, while more talented, seem to have a case of whatever 06 white sox had.
  13. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 08:36 PM) goodbye 1st place, goodbye playoffs. It's whiskey tonight apparently
  14. pathetic how that last play was the most fulfilling for me all game long
  15. I'm done calling them 'pesky.' They're just a very good team, no half-demeaning adjectives necessary.
  16. Sure would be nice to have a starter-version of 05 Jenks come up and impress this second half.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) You're probably right. But we all Know Ozzie won't go for it. But it would come down to Contreras and Vazquez in a playoff game, and i'm sure he'd go with Count based on the experience in high pressure situations Unless Floyd bombs here on out, I cant imagine Vazquez entering the playoffs as a top 3 starter.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) except that when your team gets 50% of its runs through the HR, you kinda want people on base. Totally agreed. He fits well in what the lineup does best. We're not going to steal bases or be amazing at small ball this year or next. All or nothing with HR is frustrating, because there are so many days like this. But it's what we are, what we're going to be for at least another year or two i'd bet. So his contract figure fits well within that for a few years and allows us to make other moves.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) Any reason gas-can Vazquez still out there? he's just out there to save our bullpen strength
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) Steve Stone calling out the Sox for having Swish in CF. Says "Nick Swisher is not a center fielder". It's not as bad as when we had Everett out there, but it's the same type of danger - that at some point it's going to hurt you in a real bad way, and you'll know you could have stopped it very easily.
  21. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 12:30 PM) Agree. Swisher has always been over-rated in my eyes. I loathe the trade that brought him and his sub .250 career BA to Chicago. Swisher - 4th best OBP on the team, no? Also the value of that trade is getting that much OBP for the money you pay him each year. Making that move instead of Torii allows you to spend a lot more in the next year to improve other positions.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) Throw out his huge June and he's hitting .196 on the season. Yet Paulie needs to be benched or released and this guy needs to be at first base. Ridiculous. we have relied on Nick's power a lot, however plus improved defense at multiple positions, and increased speed with Wise, etc even if though i see your logic and havent totally given up on PK myself, i wouldnt call those who have completely ridiculous. we're kind of caught between letting PK get it together and putting our most productive team out there.
  23. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 12:13 PM) Swisher hitting .191 this month. Oakland fans said they were going to miss him, but noted that he's the streakiest hitter ever. Correct assessment.
  24. Great AB pk hopefully he can stop beating himself up mentally from this point forward. and....non super atbat Swish.
  25. it would be a really nice sight to see PK get a walk here. a Walk, for once
