  1. even more telling, the end of this interview indicates that Poreda himself believes he still has a long while before he's ML ready. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/21338-c...er-aaron-poreda
  2. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) You realize that AA to the Majors is kind of a normal move for teams top prospects. AAA, especially the IL is where people stockpile aging vets and AAAA guys to sprinkle across other prospects who aren't good enough yet to make the majors. AA is still where the talent is. didnt say anything about AA specifically. the point is, asking a young guy to come in and make a difference in a PLAYOFF RUN is asking a lot, and i cant think of tons of examples of it working out well. Jenks, I guess, but he was older and had more life experiences (meaning bar fights) again, the downside is rushing him along too fast, which can be a detriment to his mindset, as well as future value.
  3. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) The last time I checked we are in the midst of a playoff run, this year. Not next year. Who knows next year what position we will be in. This years Indians and last years WhiteSox should of taught you that. I would agree with you if I thought Poreda could be great this year, but I dont think it's his time. Though I only base this on parallel situations from other teams at other times. I suppose there's a chance he could be the exception.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) Ummmm....why would we want to trade Poreda, exactly? Because he throws the ball hard and he's left-handed and someone will give us another Josh Hamilton or Carlos Quentin for him magically? I'm not saying we should trade him. Just saying KW trades prospects. It's what he does, and when he has a need big enough next year, Poreda would be the #1 trading chip. Also, I didnt say we were trading him straight up, as you allege above. Obviously, he could be part of a package, netting something good in return.
  5. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) And the spiel about damaging Poreda's trade value is ridiculous. You're saying some organization is going to go, "s***, he did bad in a few starts. Ignore the fact that he's a LHP who can throw 100 MPH and is 21?" It sure doesnt help. Poreda trade could be the #1 way one day to make the team better instantly. It could be next trade deadline. You'll want the leverage then, for sure.
  6. So which position(s) is Getz best at? Which can he even play at all, actually?
  7. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) We honestly deserve to lose this division if we promote a piece of junk AAA pitcher like Broadway over Poreda. They must figure - he's seen some of the hitters before that he'll be facing And the downside of Broadway getting rocked is less important than the downside of Poredo getting rocked. This year both would matter equally, but in long term .... you dont want to damage Poreda's mindset or his trade value w/ bad ML stats.
  8. And as others said in the other thread 670 says it would be Broadway to pen, Carrasco to start I dont know if I like it so much - Carrasco has been real good at what he's doing. They really must have little faith in the other 5th starter candidates I guess.
  9. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....all-up-bro.html
  10. I dont know anything about him, except that he's good right now and apparently old Not a candidate for the 5th spot, i take it? EDIT: Ah, not stretched out it seems. Well how bout the pen? If Carrasco truly is the new 5.
  11. People here arent upset enough about this I totally would have preferred Contreras over Vazquez in one playoff game. More of a big game pitcher. And frankly, just a better yr so far than Vaz. Which is not saying much, I know.
  12. It's Detroit's season on the line, they had to come thru Hopefully we see a home series vs Boston as a way to push us to a higher tier
  13. do they really have to use Wasserman here? didnt yesterday somewhat un-deplete us
  14. Again, a few people are making my argument into something different. Not defending Cox's choice, but more just saying... if the ball takes that carom, 99 out of 100 3rd base coaches will have an arm windmilling. that's pretty much what their job is when a carom like that happens. like it or not. thats why i'm saying, don't say his move is right, but also temper outrage b/c it will happen again. with any 3rd base coach.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) What are you talking about? Thome is slower than s*** now. That run means nothing in the sense of Konerko's run meaning more. My argument isnt that Cox did the right thing--- it's that this board is quick to pounce either way. If he's held up and then we dont score in the inning, Cox is attacked for conservatism.
  16. If Cox had held him up, this board would have exploded with anger. Absolutely, after a weird bounce like that, it would have.
  17. i think our situational hitting just made that ump puke a bit in his mouth
  18. Hey. Javy's good for a 5th starter. Which he is.
  19. People root for Brian because he's like the goofy every-man type. Obviously, Alexei is the better player, but if we're talking strictly favoritism, then there's really no objective way of saying someone should be 'favorite.' All that said, Alexei is becoming one of my all-time favorite Sox. All within a matter of months.
  20. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) Carl Everett would not be pleased. take a bite out of his ERA please
  21. It's great that we one in exactly the way we did 5-1 is always a great looking final score in and of itself...but we really needed some starting and relief pitching here.
  22. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 09:27 PM) Honestly, who lets a young pitcher like JV go 130 pitches? This is probably one of those games where Leyland tells himself, well it's the 2008 season right here. There can be no other rationale.
