  1. This guy is built like mike trout or jabril peppers are you kidding me? When you work as hard as these guys 4k calories a day is no big deal.
  2. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) Not much harm in having him start the season in Winston-Salem. You can always promote him to AA in a few months. I really don't think high A hitters can challenge him. It will be too easy to just rely on his heater. There are guys in AA that can force him to throw it for a strike (and turn it around when he does) and to throw his offspeed stuff for strikes. Personally I'd just start him in AA. He seems like he's ready to run.
  3. Great article, when we were down in Phoenix I'm pretty sure we saw at least a few of the players' cars driving around, especially in Scottsdale at night. They are indeed "tricked out".
  4. QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) I watched Covey pitch in AZ two weeks ago and he couldn't be a more vanilla, average pitcher. The rangers game? I was at that game as well and those were my thoughts. He is as AAAA vanilla as they come.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 12:48 AM) This board is like America ... changing. So many people want cookie cutter announcers now and actually think Hawk is lousy. My gawd. Hawk does not speak in an annoying announcer voice. Same with Stoney. He is not a plastic announcer. He's real. I must admit I thought Benetti did a nice job last year and had a good rapport with Stone. Sox did a good job of picking Benetti who doesn't seem to be a corporate tool either. So in a nutshell, we've got people on this board wanting the Sox to lose every game. Check. We've got people who do not want to see our best prospects for a long long time on the big league team lest they be "rushed" and "flop like Beckham did." Check. Sad state of affairs. Give me Hawk. Give me rebuilds like the Yankees (spend spend spend and never be lousy!) Give me winning baseball not the crap the Sox have spewed out there in the Robin era. stfu
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) Scott Merkin‏Verified account @scottmerkin 33m33 minutes ago Renteria said today that taking 13 pitchers is a possibility but 12 still seems to be the number where he's leaning. take 13 pitchers and put Leury as the backup SS. That's a good way to max losses.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) He made his way into 2 games. nice.
  8. Did Basabe get into any games, even side games? I saw him briefly working out at the facility first week of March when I was there, but didn't see him actually in a lineup anywhere.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) Is he hurt? no he's just a drunk and sucks now.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) Anyone think the Sox could be interested in Joba Chamberlain as a reclamation project? He was released today. Wouldn't be a bad idea really. If he turn him around maybe you can add him to a trade in July. If he doesn't turn it around and helps lose games that's fine too.
  11. lol, Micah having a little fun on twitter: @TimAnderson7 hate to do this to you but remember I gave you that ride to the field in Low A in 2013? Can you venmo me that gas money ?
  12. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 06:59 PM) Lopez will replace low man on the totem pole in June, then make that guy the long man in the pen. Sounds about right.
  13. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 05:16 PM) According to beat writers, he showed a commitment to a routine and approach despite the bad start. That's a very encouraging sign, usually when players struggle they start to tinker and end up making things worse. The fact he did that bodes well for his development going forward Gordon Beckham has to be the poster child for this.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 04:59 PM) whitesoxdave‏ @barstoolWSD 38m38 minutes ago Hearing Kopech most likely starting in Winston Salem FWIW interesting. I think he'll quickly prove too good for high A hitters, although maybe they want him to be working on his off speed stuff in an environment where he'll have more immediate success.
  15. Yoan and Lopez really showed out this spring. I'm excited to see them in early summer.
  16. Awesome. Congrats to TA and his family and kudos to Hahn on a deal well done. Hard to see how this doesn't work out for the Sox. Even if TA never develops he's still a 1-2 WAR player. If he develops at all he could be a 4-6 WAR SS for the next 6-8 years. Nice.
  17. If their internal metrics (including the StatCast data) say that his defense is here to stay, then lock him up. If he's a +10 run defender (above average) at SS he could hit 260/290/410 and still be a 3 WAR player.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) Doubt he would be at camp if it was his kid I have no idea but just to add to the speculation at both Sox games I attended first week of March TA's parents were in the crowd. Hopefully everything is OK with his family and nobody is sick.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) What does being well versed in other sports have to do with a being a baseball announcer though? And I don't know about you but I feel like Steve is much more arrogant when he's with Benetti than Hawk. Stone is cocky, but at least he knows his s*** for the most part. He's great at the mini games between the pitcher and batter. Benetti is laughably ignorant about some basic baseball stuff but he'll get better with time. Hawk is just dead to me, has been for about 5 years, and I used to love him.
  20. QUOTE (brett05 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 08:03 AM) We gotta find someone to teach Yoan to cut down on those k's. Even if we can get that to say 25% rate that would be huge. I'd even pay a guy outside of the organization if we have to. He's fine. Trout strikes out a ton and he's the best player in MLB. Yoan is the same type of hitter.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 10:15 PM) Guy has real talent. Should come up halfway through this season IMO. Get some out of the playoffs at bats this guy is a stud. if the sox can develop him at all, he's a 4 war player. If they develop (and he does) more, the sky is the limit.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 05:57 PM) Pretty much how I expected it. Still leaves two spots between Davidson, Asche, & Liriano. I know we've had some positive reports on May but from what I saw down in Arizona this spring he is not a MLB CF. He takes awful routes and it's not like his bat is anything special either. There's really no reason to start his arb clock. Give him more time in AAA and see if he can figure it out. He could still be a decent 4th OF.
  23. Hey, it's sunny in Seattle today and I agree with DA. Miracles do happen. Those exceptions, like Biggio, prove the point. It's the rare athlete that can do it. Moncada might be that guy, but there's no reason in hell to move him at 21 in his first full time spring as a 2B. As noted, the Sawx had him blocked at 2B so they kinda lost a year of real development at 2B for him.
  24. deadspin has been up and down since Leitch left, it's OK now imo. That said, this is poking fun, not trolling.
  25. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 11:17 PM) I agree 100%. 70 arm, 70 speed, good instincts but ugly footwork and okay hands sounds like a perfect CF candidate. It's almost definitely too late now, since his bat is on the cusp on MLB ready, but I really wish the Red Sox weren't so stacked in the OF, because I think CF made a lot more sense when they moved him off of SS. CF is not a position you suddenly "learn" at 21. Not especially when you are a on track to be a league average 2B and hit 290/350/500 by 23. I don't know why so many people think that the instincts needed to play a good MLB level CF are easily learned or translated from the IF. They are honed over years of being a CF. If Moncada was a more promising CF then IF, he'd have already been switched. You think the Red Sox didn't say, "Yo, Yoan, go take 500 fungoes in CF" and concluded it wasn't worth it? I mean, yea, eventually he could do it, but at what cost overall to his value and development? A significant one.
