  1. Anyone that says Dunn was "a marginal upgrade" is using some excellent revisionist history. Prior to Chicago he was one of the most consistent hitters in the game that almost without fail put up around 3 WAR, 30-40 HRs, and a OPS+ of around 130. At the time he was signed Chicago had little power in the lineup and DH was a big problem. Remember Mark Kotsay? That things didn't work out with Dunn remains one of the biggest puzzles in Sox history IMO. Maybe it was the apendix thing.
  2. so uh, his changeup looks ok: https://twitter.com/SouthSideSox/status/501...2637057/photo/1
  3. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 07:14 PM) 9 strikes, 14 pitches. Ground out and two swinging strikeouts. wow. He's electric. If you watch the game against Cuba he was MLB ready in that game and that was a year ago. Looks like his stuff is back. Time now to build endurance he could have quite the role as long man in the Sox pen in Sept, sorta the old traditional fire man role.
  4. Little more on the details of the injury and what he was doing rehab wise: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...819-column.html
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) We are more than halfway through August, hasn't that time hit yet? Other teams may start to lose interest or take a backup option? Especially now that one of your core OFs has returned to the lineup. Well once the rosters expand there is absolutely no excuse to have Dunn still around. De Aza they might think has more value in the winter.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 01:42 PM) They're not going to offer him salary arbitration and put him into the $4.5-6.5 million range where he becomes virtually a lock to stick with the team for another full season even if he's only the 4th outfielder. That's not a good use of available resources, and then you're going to end up replacing him in 2015 so why not try to bring in someone who's going to be around for that 2016-2018 run? Well I think they will offer him Arb and then just trade him. Is the market that dead for a 1-2.5 WAR lefty outfielder with a couple years left in his prime? I think the odd man out is Viciedo; I would not be surprised to see him dumped for a bag of balls. ALSO, I LOVE AVI GARCIA! that is all.
  7. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 11:59 AM) I'm not sure the team can do that. If those two are your reserves, there is no backup CF. I don't think they would be comfortable with ADA as a CF for season. De Aza is the backup CF in that scenario. Jordan Danks is the emergency CF and he'll be stashed in Charlotte in that scenario. If for some silly reason they bring Garcia back he's another body that can fill in out there. The problem is De Aza is going to be making around 4-6 million right? That's kinda pricey for a 4th OF. I think there is a decent chance he is traded around Christmas for bullpen arms or a Viciedo type another org has given up on.
  8. It's funny Murray Chass WAS one of the most respected baseball writers. Then he got old, the NYTs fired him, and he became incredibly bitter and silly. His writing is generally awful but this piece actually has some good info. He still has good sources and he can put together a story when he wants.
  9. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 09:55 PM) I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Lindstrom wasn't ready to come back. But far be it from me to question the top-shelf talent evaluators in the Sox system. or you know, he is physically ready to come back and they are trying to showcase him? The pen just sucks they have nothing to lose trying to get some team to take him in Sep.
  10. Can't even blame Robin really the season is over and Lindstrom getting a high leverage inning is fine. Sucks he has no value but whatever, they tried.
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 09:46 PM) Lindstrom putting out the fire with gasoline. Well Cleto's coming in so this is like when man created the atom bomb most likely.
  12. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 09:44 PM) There's just not enough bad hitters in baseball to give me any confidence in the bullpen. Gordon Beckham Leury Garcia Jordan Danks there's your 1,2,3 inning!
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 09:43 PM) Matty Ice. Amirite Feeky? Jesus, that was a hangar. The double whatever, but you can't make that pitch with 2 strikes to Markakis.
  14. The bullpen is a parody of a bad bullpen right now. It's unreal. That wasn't even that bad of a pitch but come on how about not loading the bases.
  15. jesus christ he's thrown some meatballs tonight. Could see it from the 1st batter he had no control on the fb
  16. are you f***ING kidding me right now? WOW edit: good job NY, for once.
  17. This Orioles broadcast is awful. The play by play guy has said so many dumb things through an inning I think he's outpacing Hawk easily. "batters only hit .197 to leadoff against Sale" "batter only hit .207 against sale with runners on". Blah, blah, blah you do understand that those numbers are normal for a guy with a .87 WHIP, right? final straw were these two gems: "Chris Sales" and then: Jose hasn't hit a HR in 79 games apparently. Uh, you mean PA dumbass?
  18. Jose not seeing the ball very well right now.
  19. wow, where the f*** was that pitch?
  20. Seems like Sale's fastball command hasn't been that good the past month.
  21. love having Avi back, makes the games much more exciting.
  22. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 07:37 PM) Conor is a doubles machine and should be hitting in an RBI spot... maybe 5th or 6th. Ideally I'd like: Eaton De Aza Conor Jose Garcia Dunn Ramirez Beckham Flowers
  23. have we gotten any word on whatsup with Eaton? He's eligible to come off the DL on Tuesday I think.
