Ray, if Joe hadn't had a bad back would he be the greatest 3B of all time or only the 2nd best?

Austin Meadows traded to the Tigers
chitownsportsfan replied to maxjusttyped's topic in The Diamond Club
Maybe it's age but I was in my early 20s when I started here and now I'm in my late 30s and while sports and the Sox are still important to me there are other things, like people around me dying and myself aging -- that take the edge off any given game or season. I still care a lot but using sports as anything other than a distraction or diversion or hobby is a fool's errand. -
I hope this team gets hotter than shit just to shove it up the ass of half this forum.

every thread is now hopelessly off topic and meta. Just make a bitching and moaning thread. so on topic, it is my opinion that there are no "slight tears" in tendons as the tendons are slow to heal and perform more stressful roles than ligaments at times: so I'd be skeptical of any timetable here. It sounds like it's 4 weeks and then see where he's at. That could be another two months for all we know.

Looking at some highlights and the back of his Fangraphs card I'm pretty impressed. He has good underlying stats too so unless he gets seriously hurt (a risk with any player, 34 or 24) I expect him to produce. He's an actual quality vet, not some buy low guy.

Iguchi and Fuko right here in Chicago for starters.

I wanted to sign him but I think he'll be an average OF in MLB.

I don't know I think most Japanese players that come over, non Shohei/Ichiro division are not ready for the speed of the game defensively.

We really do not want to trade Burger and Sheets right now. Those guys have shown enough that THEY can be the cheap cost controlled average regulars that has so bedviled this org the past 20 years. Trading them for short term vets would be short sighted. I'm fine rolling with what we got now. We just added 2.5 WAR today net and probably .5 the other day adding the depth OF from the Phillies. This is a 92-95 win team on paper. Go get it done and keep your powder dry for now.

Crochet having Tommy John surgery Tuesday

They did him a disservice starting his arb clock, guaranteeing him a MLB pension and healthcare for life and allowing him a MLB player lifestyle rather than minor league? Dude, step back from the ledge. He could have blown out his arm just as easily in Birmingham. -
Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
chitownsportsfan replied to CentralChamps21's topic in Pale Hose Talk
GMAFB. I've said this over and over: if Hahn doesn't have full control he is free to you know resign. He is either on board with TLR or enjoys job security over executing his vision as a GM. The idea that Hahn is some hero to TLRs devil is silly. They all share the blame for failure and for the most part credit for any success. That said I'm no longer team TLR or Hahn. I am currently agnostic so don't pin that shit on me right now. I'm in show me mode. -

Jake Burger is actually pretty interesting
chitownsportsfan replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think you're conflating several posters but I was def a hater. I have said many times over the last year that he turned his career around and I'm thrilled. When he posted the picture of himself in England during his rehab he looked out of shape and in a different world mentally. That was the genesis of most my posts on his mental and physical state. People change and athletes especially are made of sterner stuff most of the time than us mere mortals. -

He def is interesting and I apologize for writing him off. That said, we already have a handful of guys whose best position is hitter. Another year with a roster full of 'em! -
