  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:17 PM) Your posts remind of those who tell poor people to get better jobs. Still, moving the team? Never thought I would see you say that. Here's the case you've made in this thread for the white sox having a terrible, unreliable, bandwagon fanbase and its very tough to compete for and win a world series. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2015 -> 10:59 AM) Yeah reading the posts in this thread, I don't know where anyone would get the words "fickle" and "bandwagon" from when talking about the White Sox fan base. I hope you all enjoy your next team. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2015 -> 01:03 PM) The way forward is quitting, at least according this thread. We'll see you all when the bandwagon fills up again. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2015 -> 04:01 PM) Because I am sick of the group that tells everyone they have to be miserable because they didn't get their trophy. It is one thing to talk about the game, or even the bad that goes with it. It is quite another to act like the game owes you something it doesn't. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2015 -> 04:09 PM) I am not surprised at all by our attendance. This is the type of fan base we have. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2015 -> 07:13 PM) I have provided the obvious answers that you feel hurt feelings to acknowledge. I have 115 years of attendance and White Sox history to back me up, but you know, what is that really worth. Fans abandon the White Sox during all but the very best times. I don't see why that is such a painful thing for people to admit. All of the reasons you keep giving at why fans don't go to games do nothing but back that fact up. That is the very definition of a bandwagon fan base. If that isn't a bandwagon fanbase, I would love to hear what your definition of that actually is, and why the Sox fan base doesn't fit that criteria, because nothing you have said in all of your posts has said anything that doesn't reinforce every single thing I have been saying all along. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2015 -> 12:14 AM) It tells me the bandwagon empties very quickly, just like we saw after 2005. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) Right. Because winning is something you just snap your fingers and do. It isn't like the White Sox went out and spent $100 million+ dollars this off season to try to compete this year or anything. Can we at least pretend to exist in the land of reality? The only logical conclusion I can draw from this is that the White Sox fan base is unable to support a competitive team. They won't come even for a competitive team. It takes a world series, and that happens once every half century. Right now they're protected by a strong stadium deal paid for by the state, but in 10 years they will lose that deal. Aren't you making a strong case that the Chicago area cannot support this team? They won't go if there's no world series capable team and that leaves them without enough money to even assemble a tolerable roster. What is the other solution?
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:11 PM) Viciedo No one has picked him up yet? That's really an impressive indictment of us continuing to play him.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:10 PM) You are one of the last people I ever expected to hold a position of wanting the White Sox to move. Your argument here is that the White Sox are a bandwagon fan base that is among the worst in baseball, right? They won't come for even a regularly competitive team, they only show up for a world series level team and even just winning isn't good enough, the team is going to remain completely moribund? What hope does this franchise have based on every single one of your comments in this thread?
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:09 PM) Sorry, was referring in general to lineup vs LHP I'd say getting LaRoche and Gillaspie out of the lineup against LHP is a much bigger priority. After that, do you prefer Shuck to Melky?
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:05 PM) Boni? You want to use up the 1 player who backs up 8 positions to pinch hit for a switch hitter?
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:03 PM) Stop letting Melky hit vs LHP We don't exactly have a great bench option with Garcia out.
  7. Well at least got it tied. That was close.
  8. So was anyone other than me listening to Steve Stone's commentary on why the Blue Jays' efforts to "bring in" a team have failed, how you need to develop a team from the inside, how you need to have your catcher or your shortstop be the smartest guy on the team, use that to drive the development of starting pitching, and then fill in some gaps around that and think... "This sounds like Stone criticizing the White Sox in another form" ?
  9. Stone calls out the white sox infield for their failed fundamentals letting that 6th run score.
  10. And Danks manages to lose a 5-3 lead in 1 out.
  11. Can the back of our lineup do something?
  12. Ok, I am getting really, really tired of changing windows on my computer and knowing that we just fell behind based on nothing other than the sound of the ball off the bat.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2015 -> 07:08 PM) I think the most shocking thing here is how many people are opening advocating for the team to move. After living through the true turn back the clock era, when the team was all but gone, it just blows my mind. I haven't figured out any other way to interpret your arguments about how this fan base is terrible/unsalvageable.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 06:54 PM) Having to buy season ticket packages for WS tickets. See the 2006 White Sox, and the 2015 Royals. So you'd be ok with getting to the world series? I'd generally have very few complaints with that too. Unfortunately, that's pretty much the exact opposite of the path we're currently on.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 06:38 PM) No. But winning 3 years in a row, unless it includes multiple WS appearances won't happen if people won't come to games when the team is good. The make money every year. They supposedly didn't when they lost 99 games and that was only $3 million, but included a $10 million signing bonus they gave Abreu after the season. So what will bring people to the games? As far as I can tell you still say here "people won't come to games when the team is good" If people won't come to the games when the team is good then the team does not belong in this city. That is the only thing I can take from every single one of your posts - we have a failed fanbase and the only thing keeping this team afloat is the sweetheart deal they got on the stadium revenue.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 06:26 PM) I never said anything about moving, you should send your resume to Fox News. You make up so many things. Even in 2005, they had a 9.5 game lead in a season they never where not in first place, and drew 50k total for a 3 game series in SEPTEMBER VS. KC. So this fan base cannot support a team, even winning is not enough. They should move is the only logical end point of your argument.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 26, 2015 -> 05:27 PM) I know I'll get a lot of a hate but I don't think a lost season this year deters the Sox from their path. Almost all of our past productive players are going to play to their ability once again. No eight week sample is going to change that. Guys who might very well not play to what they did in previous seasons: Eaton - are you sure that 2014 Adam Eaton is the real one and not 2015? Abreu - are you sure that 2014 Jose Abreu is the real one and not 2015? Melky Cabrera - why should I expect that a 30 year old former steroid user is going to snap back to what he was when he was on the juice? Alexei Ramirez - why should I expect that a guy who is starting to get up there in years will not hit a point where he does fall off? Adam LaRoche - why should I expect that a guy even farther along in years than Alexei will not fall off further next year? Chris Sale - why should I have confidence in Chris Sale becoming a cheat code again if he cannot/will not use the slider as his out pitch? Jose Quintana - maybe the projections were right and he really and truly was an amazing 3 year fluke? Some of those guys, let's hope, will find their groove again, but "almost all"?
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 26, 2015 -> 05:35 PM) For all the (rightfully deserved) grief GarPax gets, let's remember that they wanted Thibs to hire an offensive assistant and he refused. For a guy who made his name in the league as the premier defensive assistant, that's completely bullheaded on his part and idiotic. His offensive schemes are terrible and relied on PG drives and tip backs. Those weren't as prominent this year with hobbled Noah. Thibs has enough positives that I hesitate to get rid of him because there's a very good chance the next person coming in has fewer positives. However, he also has enough negatives that a non-great team is able to exploit them to the point of making the Bulls look really, really bad in the playoffs, and that's what we just saw. Hinrich on the floor an insane number of minutes, teams struggling to score, the Bulls just plain outsmarted on the court. If Thibs isn't willing to work on his weaknesses then we have reached the limit of what we can do with him and I'll understand that.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) On Sept. 25th 2012 the White Sox entered their final home stand 1 game in front in the AL Central They drew 20,206. The next night 13,797 then 20,166 18,633 25,264 26,559 and 26,831. I think you have some sort of answer. Honestly, that was the month where I had completely turned off the White Sox because I could see them breaking down and didn't want to watch it happen. But if you think the team needs to move, why won't you just come out and say it?
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) I wouldn't book it at all. The won the division in 2008 and attendance was lower than the 90 loss team in 2007. They were in first place most of 2012 and attendance was lower than the 2011 disappointment. Maybe winning the WS is a curse. Being in first place, making the playoffs doesn't have the same effect it used to create. 1. I propose an experiment. Let's actually try and find out? 2. If you're right and this franchise is that moribund and it can't fill the stadium beyond 1/2 capacity any more even if they win games, then it needs to relocate when the stadium agreement finishes.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) No I never wrote that. The argument here is winning here and there isn't good enough, you need to win 3 or 4 years out of 5. In order to do that, as you stated, the payroll is going to jump. Hell, like I keep asking, let's just try a playoff run and see what happens? This fanbase has endured a helluva lot of losing over the past 5 years.
  22. Finally they're not forcing Garcia into a game he's not healthy enough to play. Any updates on him today? Alexei, of course, still plays after yesterday's circus.
