QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) I disagree, I would guess they trade him and then try to sign him in the offseason if they want him back. I don't think they have anywhere close to the funds available to sign him this offseason, I don't think they're going to get offers for him that are better than the sandwich pick, and I think they're going to hang around "5 games under .500" where an occasional good series will push them close enough where they can convince themselves "Hey we should add to this rather than trade away". Then they'll hit their usual late-season swoon.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) Hopefully Samardzija keeps performing well and the team can get some good prospects in return for him. We're going to wind up with a sandwich pick.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 24, 2015 -> 03:06 PM) They're in the AL Wildcard Division. There are 4 teams between us and the 2 wild card spots already.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2015 -> 03:04 PM) If scores hold, tied for last in AL Central after 40 games with the team playing some of its worse ball of tr year. Getting to the point it's now or never.Or n Well "Memorial Day" is supposed to be your first evaluation day of the year, right?

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 24, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) I think if Soto got the majority of the starts he would be able to get in a groove and hit a lot better than Flowers I have no idea what makes people look at Soto's numbers for the past half decade and think "oh this guy's a legit contributor and a candidate starter".
-
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 24, 2015 -> 02:49 PM) Don't really count the NL in that. What about just Sanchez? I guess Alexei hasn't been that bad but it just seems like he has been horrible when we need him most which makes it seem bad That's why I gave both the MLB and the AL in the 9th slot, there are 6 teams that have gotten less production than us out of the 9 spot in the AL.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2015 -> 02:47 PM) Soto hit very well on Friday. Why not give him another chance today? I will never understand the love the org has for Flowers. I will never understand the love this website has for a backup catcher with a lower OPS than Flowers.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 24, 2015 -> 02:44 PM) Do we have the worst 7-8-9 hitters in the league? We are 4th in MLB in OPS out of the 7 spot, 28th in OPS out of the 8 spot (notably Cubs are worst and they keep putting their pitcher there so only the Angels are really worse), 11th in MLB in OPS out of 9 spot (9th in the AL).

That was pretty good Carlos.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 24, 2015 -> 02:23 PM) The main difference is Dozier and Plouffe. We simply dont have that type of pop on the infield. No, the main difference is Jose Abreu is an .800 OPS, 15 HR/season player right now. We're 7 HR behind them. Jose Abreu is 9 HR behind where he was at this point last year, and that was with the foot issue/DL stint last year.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2015 -> 02:22 PM) Melky reminds me of Morel, where he is hitting the ball hard but doesn't have enough power to get it over the outfielder's head Well he hasn't been that way his whole career. He's had good years with the bat beforehand so somehow he had more strength in previous seasons. I wonder what the difference might be this year.

QUOTE (Dunt @ May 21, 2015 -> 11:40 AM) I think he presents a better overall option than JB Shuck at the present time While this is true...he also has some chance of turning into an everyday player and he's unlikely to do that if he only gets 100 PA the rest of this year. It's not like we're in a position where the difference in quality between Shuck and Thompson as player #24 on the roster is going to suddenly push us into competition for the division any time soon. IF that were to change in a month or two, then maybe you think about it once TT has had more than half a year at AAA.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 24, 2015 -> 08:50 AM) Cubs are about to make the white sox a non entity. Say what you want but that organization has built itself into something. Arrieta and Rizzo are the moves that are defining them. Bloody hell, we could have done this. Get Rick Hahn hired somewhere in 2011-2012, have Hahn trade great talent to us for pennies on dollar, then hire Hahn as KWs replacement in 2013 as we did.

That was fast.

jesus tyler that looked like a pitch I could hit.
-
Well that's an improvement.
-
So this isn't going well.

Seriously how is there anyone who's favorite Konerko memory is not that one swing? Maybe if they were like 1.
-
I got to talk to Gellinger about Konerko when he was managing in Bristol 2 summers ago so I'm enjoying watching Paul talk about that guy

QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 23, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) Was that a veiled reference at PK getting into broadcasting or am I just drunk. He's taking Robin's job next year and he knows it
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 23, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) Konerko looks younger for some reason. It's rare that we see him clean shaven.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 23, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) And of course that is all because of his knee, yet he hurt his knee in Oakland and did fine on Sunday.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 23, 2015 -> 12:29 PM) He didn't ask out but facts shouldn't come into play, as I am sure the front office and training staff told Robin he needed to sit, and he just ignored them. And of course, he's 1/11 at the plate since he was pulled from the game Monday with 5 K's.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 23, 2015 -> 12:22 PM) The only organization I truly admire is the Cardinals. Does any other organization come close to them in the past 20 years? They can let guys like Puljols go and still win. The Red Sox have what, 3 titles with 3 very, very different teams, each assembled a different way, right? The only constant guy I can think of through all of them is Ortiz. The first one was led by Manroid and co, the 2nd was Youkilis and Beckett with Ramirez still around, the third was driven by a great year from Ellsbury and Napoli and Victorino. Pedroia was there for the 2nd pair, Varitek around for the first 2, etc.
