  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 18, 2015 -> 03:51 AM) The "stuff" has filtered down, resulting in unprecedented productivity from Sox players. Ms. Moss Kanter’s prime example of what can be achieved through will and vision is a $1 billion tunnel beneath Biscayne Bay that allows trucks to reach the Port of Miami without clogging downtown streets. She credits, among others, Jose Abreu, a Cuban immigrant, civil engineer and state official who championed the project for decades. It started in the mid-1980s with an idea and a $4 million federal grant to study it. Some 30 years later, after myriad disputes, the tunnel was finally built by a public-private partnership drawing on money from a Paris-based infrastructure investment fund. http://www.wsj.com/articles/how-to-fill-th...oles-1431898378 Wow, you've achieved a new level of random. "Article about civil engineers who share the name of white sox players? Why this belongs in the most recent thread about the manager!"
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ May 18, 2015 -> 07:37 AM) Sale has to put up some 0's. No homers to hacks like Raburn. Oh god that's right we have to face Raburn this week.
  3. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ May 17, 2015 -> 08:00 PM) He looks like Miguel Cabrera every game. Hahahaha That swing was a thing of beauty.
  4. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 17, 2015 -> 06:48 PM) I traded Machado and Cole for him before the season. Now I have both Harper and Bryant. Cole hasn't exactly been a disappointment.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 17, 2015 -> 05:15 PM) Eric Chavez on the Oakland broadcast keeps insisting that we like Sanchez because of his offense, even while Glen Kuiper keeps saying we like his defense. The correct answer is hopefully "yes"
  6. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 17, 2015 -> 04:40 PM) His ceiling IMO is solid starter. I can easily see him having a 10 year career with 15-25 war. His glove will play. If he can hit 270/300/380, in today's game that's a fine 2B. I keep telling people...go look at his numbers in the minors and compare them to Omar Infante's numbers coming up. Sanchez spent an extra year in the minors that Infante didn't, but otherwise they're very similar. Handful of walks, handful of strikeouts different.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 17, 2015 -> 04:37 PM) The multiview is the worst. Why so much dead screen space? It's still sponsored by AT&T right? Because everything they touch also must become the worst.
  8. Bryant pulled today after the 4th, "not feeling well".
  9. Didn't we have a very similar thread after a run of good games in May of 2014?
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 15, 2015 -> 11:38 PM) So you think Rodon is bad but Samardzija is worse than him? Rodon is a rookie with great stuff, Samardzija is a middle-rotation starter in the middle of a terrible rut. Out of those 2? Right now I'll take the rookie until the veteran pulls out of the rut.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 15, 2015 -> 11:35 PM) Who is pitching the next two? Danks/Samardzija right? So our 2 weakest pitchers follow?
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 15, 2015 -> 11:33 PM) We can come back, just get out of this with only that damage We're also hurt because he's >80 pitches through four so early bullpen outing tonight.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 15, 2015 -> 11:21 PM) I know some dont believe me but he would sign for under market with the Sox. I am on the fence at this point if we even want him. There has to be another option and then pick up a 5th starter off the scrap heap every season. I genuinely don't think they're anywhere close to being able to afford him. The numbers we have suggest their break even point is close to $125 million with this year's ticket sales boost and there's no way they can sign him without pushing $140 million next year unless they trade 2 big deals.
  14. Ok, things could be worse, our leadoff hitter could be hitting .030.
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 15, 2015 -> 07:39 PM) You know Marcus is going to kill us. Especially since the use of his name is a registered trademark and we just posted it without permission in the lineups.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ May 15, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) 2018 doesn't seem quite so far away anymore re: Rose contract and the skyrocketing cap. But - Bulls really need more guards, cannot stress that enough. It's awesome we have a true player in Jimmy, but our guard depth was terrible. How much of that was Thibs's refusal to use the guards that they have? Snell could have gotten more PT, Hinrich shouldn't have been out there as much as he was, they had other options that weren't used, and McDermott could see some time there next year as he enters the rotation. They have a cheap option on E'Twaun Moore next year that they can pick up, they could use some additional depth behind that, particularly at the PG slot but I wouldn't call it "terrible". They could use a big man and an additonal PG for the rotation this offseason and they should have at least the MLE + their first round pick to play with. Next year they could then make use of Noah's expiring contract and, if the Kings are having a decent season with Karl as their coach, they could even have a solid trade asset to pair with him if they wanted to make a move mid-season too.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 15, 2015 -> 02:48 PM) Not with Rose still being a dumb player and 70% of his former athletic self. Mirotic and McDermott would have to make huge leaps next season. And I don't see that happening. Also, who wants to bet the Bulls f*** up the Butler situation? You know they'll low ball him to try and save some pennies. And it'll blow up in their face. That's the question - is Rose a Max contract player next year or not? If he's not then they're a playoff team that can't win a title because they're paying $20 mil a year for a $12 mil a year player. If he takes a step forwards somehow, then this team is a title contender. IMO it really is that simple, they have a solid roster around him that is likely to keep improving unless their next coach is another VDN. If Rose can take another step forwards next year towards a top level player, they're a title contender no matter what moves they make (unless they let Jimmy walk). If Rose is at this level the rest of his career, then they're not a title contender until his contract is over. Oh, and if they don't offer Jimmy a max deal right away, they should actually still be ok because they should be able to just match whatever any other team offers him as an RFA. Since there's a max-level, even if some team tried to front-load/poison-pill a contract there's really not much they can do.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 15, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) Okay good. Then they should be able to dump him. They can't give him another contract so it'd be pointless to not try and get something if they can. Do you actually think the Bulls would genuinely "dump" him? I sure don't.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 15, 2015 -> 01:23 PM) With Butler's QO hold, the Bulls would be at $61 million. With him on a max, they'd be at $73 million. $3 million under last year's tax line. This year's line will probably go up a few million. Everything so far has made it sound like it will go up a lot more than a few million.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2015 -> 09:22 PM) To Phoenix after Hoiberg goes to Bulls? I do wonder if his health issues could prevent him from actually taking that job. But yeah it's probably already his, because hey, that's how the Bulls do things.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2015 -> 09:19 PM) Thibs to Pelicans for their first round pick? How do people feel about that coach they just fired?
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2015 -> 09:09 PM) Mentioned it yesterday, but Bernstein made it sound like Bulls front office is pissed that Thibs didn't try to develop McDermott this year to give them more outside shooting. The one thing I have trouble questioning is Thibs's use (or lack thereof) of rookies. How many different guys has that worked well with? Butler? Snell? Heck, he got forced into playing Mirotic in this series...and Mirotic has been really ineffective.
  23. QUOTE (TitoMB @ May 14, 2015 -> 08:57 PM) Arbitration has always been odd to me. So, the basic idea is, Jose says 'Hey, I am playing above my contract, I want to make X dollars next year' Then the team comes back and says 'Hey, we are willing to pay you Y dollars next year' then the arbitrator says 'Hey, I've decided you will receive Z dollars next year' where Z is between X and Y. Is that correct? No, the Arbitrator does not pick a number in-between, the player submits value X they think they're worth, the team submits value Y, and the arbitrator must pick one of those 2 numbers, not anything else. Generally the team and the player will come to an agreement for a number in-between to avoid the acrimonious debate in front of the arbitrator and to avoid the chances of losing the case. That can happen between the 2 sides any time before there's a decision made IIRC. That's how they come to an agreement in the middle.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 14, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) How many schollies did Crean need again? IIRC he was overbooked by 1 and this would open up 2?
