  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) If Zach Duke is fixed by throwing side arm and changing his pitches, why can't Danks do the same? I suggested earlier this year that he's a reasonable bullpen option even though that'd make him overpaid for the role.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:54 PM) Well, there's the "he falls off a cliff" in 2015 concern, we get nothing back in return and decline his 2016 option but Anderson isn't deemed ready quagmire of a situation. And there's a similar risk in every top 20 prospect you trade for to. Come on man. Alexei Ramirez has been as reliable a SS as their is in baseball. He's #4 in MLB in fWAR out of that position the last 5 years, #5 over the last 2 years. Over the past 5 he's put up similar fWAR to Jose Reyes, who parleyed it into a $100 million contract. He's put up just about as many fWAR over that time period as Hanley Ramirez, who is about to get something similar. He ought to be treated as such.
  3. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:48 PM) Would anyone on this board be willing to trade Carlos Rodon for Alexei Ramirez? I know i sure as f*** would not so what makes people think Alexei should bring back a player ranked even higher? Its a ridiculous notion! Alexei does not have the perceived valued most think he has. Sorry, that's just the way it is. Then there is no reason whatsoever to trade him.
  4. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:27 PM) Do u wanna trade Alexei I dont. No. So anyone who wants him better be ready to pay up. Hence why he probably won't be traded.
  5. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:40 PM) If Alexei gets moved to the Dodgers you can bet your ass we're getting Kemp back somehow. When Hahn says he wants a LH middle of the order bat he isn't screwing around. Wish Kemp wasn't such a lousy fielder. A move will be coming wether it's soon or later that will convince one and all that Hahn is serious about contending this year and trading Alexei doesn't suggest otherwise. Um...........I see one problem with your statement............
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:19 PM) Is Rick giving us a little Foo Fighters here ? There's only one done.
  7. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) Sox or dodgers balta? Both, frankly.
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) Robert Murray ‏@RobertMurrayMLB 4m4 minutes ago Source: Billy Butler agrees to three-year, $30M deal with the #Athletics. $5 million signing bonus. That is a LOT of money for Billy Butler.
  9. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:01 PM) The Dodgers will just sign SS or trade MATT KEMP FOR ELVIS andrus Are you willing to risk a division title on Asdrubal Cabrera, Jed Lowrie, or on Stephen Drew?
  10. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 08:41 PM) I think the Sox brain trust wants to compete right now. If so, alexei is going nowhere. At the very least, you need to give them a really good reason not to try to compete for the central right now.
  11. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 08:10 PM) Or they could just make a reasonable offer that Hahn takes because it benefits our team? There's no one outside of their top guys that it benefits our team to take. It's a massive downgrade to the 2015 white sox no matter what they do to replace him - the free agents are worse than Alexei and might cost almost the same, the young guys we have are pretty weak SS candidates. Why on Earth should the White Sox do that unless it's a really big 2016 upgrade?
  12. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 07:18 PM) Problem is that Alexei is not worth any of the Dodgers top three. If you had Pederson, Seager, Urias would you be willing to trade any of them for Alexei? I sure as hell would not. Then the dodgers better be willing to hang their hopes for a playoff ride next year on the likes of Asdrubal Cabrera or Stephen Drew, or to spend 9 figures on Hanley Ramirez. They get to choose which thing they're willing to do.
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 06:39 PM) Looks that way. They have 3 elite prospects who are worth more than Alexei and a bunch of mediocre prospects. Maybe the Sox could add something to pry one of their elites, but I'd doubt it. If the White Sox don't get an elite prospect back for Alexei Ramirez there remains zero reason to move him. Moving Alexei for anyone basically guarantees we're making the team worse in 2015. Nearly impossible to replace his production via a reasonably priced FA and whatever guy we get back would likely be a rookie and thus likely would need time to adapt to the league. It's very nearly throwing in the towel on 2015. The only reason we'd have to do that is if someone makes us significantly better in ~2016 through the trade.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 06:14 PM) The fact that his K% in the majors over 45 PAs was only 37.8% is frankly astonishing. Hey, Javier Baez's K rate over his first 41 PA was only 31.7%
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) Cause the guy on some other team is usually (always) more sexy than the guy on your current team. It's one of those baseball realities. Let's just hope Zach can pitch. Let's look at it this way. Is he potentially any better than Thornton? Better than Thornton is today? Yes, he could be. Better than Matt at his best? No.
  16. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) I would do that in a second. Kemp at less than what Russell Martin just got, AND a "legit prospect" for essentially nothing? If Kemp would play LF. Hell yeah. The Dodgers would never make that deal. With Kemp's injury history I think there's a good chance the Dodgers would jump at that. To put some numbers on the comparison you just made, last 2 seasons Martin 9.4 fWAR, Kemp 1.4. Last 3, martin 11.4 fWAR, kemp 4.6 fWAR. Even if you include Kemp's monster, near MVP 2011 season, Martin has outperformed him over the last 4. In addition, Martin has been far more consistent, not putting up any negative value seasons. Kemp did that in 2010 and 2013.
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 05:07 PM) How about: Sox get: Kemp legit prospect Dodgers get: Danks long term salary relief Matt Kemp has $107 million on his deal remaining. John Danks has $29 million on his deal remaining. Are you willing to take on $78 million in commitments over 5 years for Matt Kemp + a "legit prospect"? That's a hard sell to me.
  18. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) Unless Dodgers is ready to make Seager a full time 3B, it does not make sense for them to trade a top level prospect like Pederson for Alexei. The only way this makes sense for them is unloading a bad contract like Either or Kemp, plus a couple of mid level ML ready prospects for Alexei and Danks. No. If we're not getting a top flight talent back, do not trade Alexei. What exactly is the point of clearing Danks's contract out if it leaves us without one of our best players and 2 more holes as a result? We save $23 million by clearing Danks and Alexei, great, but now we have only $23 million to spend to find a replacement starting pitcher and a starting shortstop. That's a completely lateral move at best and quite possibly a move that makes the Sox worse.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 02:30 PM) Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 15m15 minutes ago Sources: #Indians exploring wide range of options, including a trade of Swisher for another player with an inflated contract. Swisher has an inflated option for 2017 that vests with 550 PA, but 2015/2016 he only costs $1M more than Danks.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:21 AM) I assume this is meant to be sarcastic, but for the most part it has been kept pretty quiet, which is what you would want, no? Really, no it hasn't been. That Grand Jury has leaked like a sieve.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 01:46 PM) Whenever I saw Ethier hit last year, he looked like someone who lost a lot of bat speed. Unless it's a deal for Danks, I don't want him in any deal where the Sox are giving up something good. Even in that deal, the Sox would be taking on a ****ton of salary unless the Dodgers offset it, and to get the Dodgers to offset it the Sox would have to give up something worth catching the Dodgers' interest.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst 4m4 minutes ago If Stanton opts out of contract after 2020, his AAV for first 6 years would be "only" $17.83 million, sources say http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11897600...vily-backloaded … That is very, very smart of the Fish.
  23. Peterson will appeal that suspension. Might hear back as soon as today?
  24. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) Clips seem like a team that we'll be hearing poisonous locker room stories about in the near future. Lots of bad vibes. They can't be worse than the poisonous team operations for the last few years.
  25. Had to be done, there's no way we could go into next year without adding another bullpen lefty and have any hope of a tolerable pen and this is the price you pay for a tolerable lefty on the FA market right now, like it or not. Let's just hope they've done better homework with this signing than they did with Downs.
