  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 09:33 PM) Ok. But keep that viewpoint all season k? It wouldn't be fun if we couldn't rub it in your face later. Please?
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 09:24 PM) That's only if you think they are an 80 point a game team. I don't think they are. Starting to believe.
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 09:22 PM) Dear Derrick Rose and company, Carlos Boozer isn't on the floor to play defense. Maybe he should touch the ball. Sincerely, Concerned fan That....didn't work.
  4. A guy with actual minor league managerial experience? For shame.
  5. Hell, I'm just quoting the whole post/interview.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 02:03 PM) That's a really good question. I think the only way he manages again in the major leagues, is if he takes a coaching job and the organization gets comfortable with him, and he takes over that team eventually. If Loria is willing to pay him for 3 or 4 years to do nothing, I think other teams realize, that while Loria is a problem, Ozzie has had issues with both organizations he managed. I can't imagine any coach who's not already a huge friend of Ozzie being willing to take him onto his staff. That's a ridiculous level of distraction from your 3b coach. Seriously, imagine having the media crowding around your bench coach after the game waiting for him to say something stupid and then having to clean up his mess for a week or two every year. Maybe if Joey Cora gets the Mariners job I could see that, but then would Ozzie be comfortable being 2nd fiddle to a guy who was 2nd fiddle to him?
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 01:27 PM) I thought he meant the Cubs getting out of their deal with WGN TV specifically being good for the Sox. I assumed when he said "look into taking advantage of" that it was something that would require effort on the part of the Sox. If the Cubs leave WGN and that leads to increasing White Sox viewership on the same channel, that doesn't require any effort on the part of the White Sox. Although I'd consider giving up a kidney to get them off WCIU, if that helps.
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) How so? Current TV contracts are producing valuations something like 5-10x the previous contracts. The teams who were lucky enough to have their contracts come up right now are raking in a fortune - see the Dodgers. Any team that has any way to renegotiate their TV deal right not ought to be considering it.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) It doesn't sound like they have any aversion to piles of s***, if you ask me.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) I can't speak to the dollars and cents of negotiations, but as a fan outside of the "local territory," I appreciate having games on WGN because they are not subject to blackout. I used to agree with this although with Extra innings it's much less of an issue. But I think a big deal there is that the new TV deals are an order of magnitude more money than people thought they'd be when the last round was signed.
  11. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 12:49 PM) No offense to Max, he is a great pitcher but he had sooooo much fuggin run support it's not even funny. Darvish had 4 1-0 loses. As many have noted previously, this feeds back into his other numbers. A guy who has a lot of 1-0 games is going to be pushing his ERA as low as it can go and maybe even trying to pile up the strikeouts so that guys don't get on base. A guy who has a 5 run lead may say "here it is, hit it" more often to avoid piling up his pitch count and to help his bullpen out...leading to a higher ERA.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 10:07 AM) I can't really blame the coaching staff or the Dolphins front office. Maybe a lower level coach that also should have seen something going on, but there's no way a head coach is going to be able to see one guy being harassed more than normal. He has to rely on his asst coaches for that kind of stuff. I think you're right on the "lower level coach" stuff; these teams employ what, 10-20 different coaches and each player probably has 2-3 different guys working with him? It's kinda hard to understand the point of those huge coaching staffs if they can't keep track of player activities when the season is on.
  13. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 10:11 AM) Who honestly thinks less of the NFL or the Dolphins because of this? It was one asshole and one victim. Without more, case closed. Even if the dolphins coaches asked Icognito to toughen Martin up, they didn't know he was going to be a racist asshole about it or go about it in the way that he did. But there's a good chance they're still liable in a legal sense if they did ask for that to happen.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 09:33 PM) Report says Dolphins leadership told Incognito to toughen up Martin. This case about to get really ugly if so. DID YOU ORDER THE CODE RED?!?!
  15. QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 07:51 PM) If there are three finalists, how do people finish in 4th, 5th, etc.? I hope Sale gets 4th over Felix. They're just finding a new way to add in another press release.
  16. Orioles hire Jeff Manto as their minor league hitting coordinator.
  17. Broken collarbone officially for Rodgers. Seriously, SMC may well have just paid for himself being a first round pick, even if that's just bad luck.
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 03:24 PM) Well, I hope you are all doing better now... mumble mumble "sequester" mumble mumble....
  19. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 03:19 PM) FWIW I was just answering your question. Really you didn't, I have the same question still. You showed me that he was hurt to start the year but the quote actually argued that it wasn't bothering him by the time mid-May rolled around...which leaves me with no explanation for his performance this year.
  20. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) Interesting... So, I've always wondered this, and I have to ask -- when you were doing this, did you ever say to yourself, "Wow, this is like working 1.5 jobs for the pay of 1?" I know people that make good money (subjective), and for sake of an example, let's say they make 100,000$. Sounds great when they tell people they make 100k, but knowing their schedules, I always say to myself, "Actually, you make 50k, and work two 50k jobs, since you work 80 hours a week". Are you kidding? In grad school I averaged over 80 and that was for the pay of 0.5 jobs.
  21. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) Almost, but not quite. We have some competition these days, in the form of ATT vs Verizon vs Sprint vs Tmobile vs US Cellular, etc... That's better than, say...having JUST AT&T. You're cell phone bill would be 1k a month right now if that was the case. But seriously though, it really is impressive that AT&T was literally able to merge with every single company that was created when Ma Bell broke up.
  22. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 03:03 PM) Oh, so he wants Ma Bell back... Um...yeah, that already happened.
  23. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) Im referring to Balta's use of "their" instead of "our", a freudian slip that really speaks volumes about how statist his philosophy is. You do realize you're the one who used the example of a "private company" first, right? And that I was following your exact example? I know corporations are people in this country but as far as I know I'm not incorporated, so in the example you used, "their" is the correct terminology to refer to corporations which I am not a part of.
