  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 05:27 PM) That's my guess without reading what anyone else thinks. If teams want to go higher or more years for a speed guy that's on them. Bourne is already losing his speed if you base it on his low total of steals from prevoius years. What do you think ? Some one will probably go higher . They always do. When's the last time a guy hit the FA market and you felt the team got a good deal? I'd expect the Carl Crawford range, 7/$140+, is a reasonable starting point and I wouldn't be surprised to see him beat that.
  2. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 05:28 PM) Sale Danks Johnson Quintana Santiago Rienzo Beck Great. Now which of the top 6 should we demote to Charlotte? That's my problem with this team. I'm great with the top 6...but we only can run a 5 man rotation, and after the last couple years of destroying pitchers this way I'm going to scream if we try to send one of them to the bullpen again. That's why I lean towards the sign floyd as a backup and trade one starter away move. All 6 deserve to be in the bigs in April next year.,
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 04:17 PM) Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 1h red sox plan to make $14.1-million qualifying offers to napoli and drew. http://cbsprt.co/1aM02RL Chances both could take that?
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 03:52 PM) He needs to start and play everyday. If that is in Chicago or Charlotte, it doesn't really matter to me, but he needs to play 150 games next year. I'd really like him to start at Charlotte because I don't want to see him rushed past that level...but I won't be mad if the Sox find a way to trade someone in the right deal and a spot becomes clear for him.
  5. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 05:11 PM) No to give away Gavin, Sox have better options. Like who?
  6. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 04:16 PM) I think Eminor3d answered your question before you asked it. "$3.5m = less than one WAR on the open market. No brainer to me." He was according to FanGraphs the 25th most valuable reliever last year and worth $5M when we are paying $3.5M. I know those stats are not a be all end all, but it gives you a decent starting point. Also, even if you are rebuilding you need arms to throw and who knows he could have a year like Jesse Crain and if we suck again we can maybe trade him for a body or 2. Look at what the Cubs do. They sign middle of the pack FA's and try to trade them to get more minor league bodies. The White Sox are not the Marlins, they are not going to have a team of all young players. At the very least...the White Sox really did need at least one veteran in the bullpen if they're going to run out there 5 or more other young guys, and Lindstrom is a guy they're already comfortable with. We can call him a coach as well
  7. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 04:53 PM) I just don't see the point in bringing him back with the depth of right handed starter available via free agency. Because we want to give the young guys every chance we can to actually earn those rotation slots. In fact, we don't have enough rotation slots right now for young guys. That means we'd want to sign someone who isn't likely to be ready to start the season.
  8. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) I don't think so...I think he's saying that people who will use insurance the most should be the ones that pay the most, versus spreading it around like they're doing now. Of course, you knew that's what he meant, but decided to play games with his words, instead. That's not insurance then. That's having everyone pay for what they need. Insurance is by definition something you need to cover costs that are potentially larger than what you can afford. You can still conduct some weighting in costs based on details like age and smoking in this system, but if I find out next year I have cancer I'm suddenly using the most insurance and by your statement I should "pay the most". That's not insurance, that's a payment plan!
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) I consider an "everyone pays into the collective pool regardless of how much you take out" system socialistic. so...you disagree with the concepts of insurance in general.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 11:10 AM) Hahn has made it pretty clear that we're looking to add through trades now, rather than FA. We don't know Ricky that well yet, but just as a reminder...if you wrote this post about the previous White Sox GM, later that day there would be a major free agent signing.
  11. I have to fill out a job application for Syracuse today and now I'm suddenly motivated to find a way to reference a 2-3 zone in the application.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 10:51 AM) They might not but if Ellsbury is available for 5 years $100M I'd say go for it. That seems awfully low.
  13. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 10:46 AM) In greg's defense (has that ever been said here?), he said to have Beckham be the back-up to Semien. But your point remains...having Semien be a bench guy would be a terrible idea. If he's on the big league roster opening day (and just so it's said...that'd be rushing him)...he needs an obviously cleared spot. You can't have a guy in hist 5th year in the league making $4 million sitting there on the bench and expect Semien to get regular playing time.
  14. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) You know what turns me off about the Red Sox is that they need to have some shtick they can't just play, Fear the Beard, The Idiots, Sweet Caroline, just play the f***ing game. I like that Peavy got a ring. (The White Sox brought Steve Perry to their world series parade).
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 03:33 AM) I could "handle" giving Beckham the proverbial one more year IF he's the backup to Semien at 2B and fills in once in a while at 3B for what I hope will be a new third baseman. I really truly want to see Kepp and Gillaspie gone and I've had my share of Beckham as a starter. If he's a Lillibridge type utility guy, fine. Having Marcus Semien sitting mostly on the bench as a fill-in/utility guy could be your worst idea yet.
  16. I would have been surprised earlier in the season but he had a nice year and seemed to fit well into the pen.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 06:02 PM) Yeah, if Danks pitches like his pre-injury self, you don't even have to consider picking up money, in fact you start to be able to ask for a teams best prospects again. One thing that hasn't been stated in this thread is that if the white sox are willing to dump Danks rather than giving his value a chance to recover...it could be because they don't believe his value will recover based on what they may know of him.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 10:55 AM) If they go big on a FA this year, as I expect them to, they'll be up near $100 again I don't see who on the FA market makes a lot of sense for them (Cano?) but they really ought to be trying to trade one of their kids for Price or Scherzer.
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 07:22 PM) Could've been dangerous for Jimmy with a guy undercutting him like that. That was moderately cheap, you're rigt.
  20. And I know no one cares but I'm on my second goose island tonight at a bar in Denver I knew would have a Chicago beer on tap.
