With the amount of youth in the bullpen...play the kids. If the bullpen struggles too much in the first half, bullpen assistance is always available if it becomes needed.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) I expect Youk-esque D and a good situational hitter that will reliably make contact. I thought Kepp was supposed to be quite a bit better with the glove than Youk?

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 03:02 PM) And then we'd have a legit 3B, Beckham and Kepp at 2B. One thing I've figured out...when making a successful move happen requires 3 different steps...it's not going to happen.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 02:11 PM) I wouldn't do it. We won't miss them unless the injuries keep piling up anyway. Defense still keeping them off the board and the O has been a play away for a few drives now. Make it happen boys Lovie Smith will have 1 year on his contract after this year, so he's also up for an extension. If he doesn't make the playoffs, that's it for him. If he makes the playoff but loses in the WC round, that's an open Q. He's got to earn that extension, otherwise this is the year it's cheap to replace him.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 11:00 PM) Teahen wasn't an awful hitter. His defense was just pathetic. There you go. I can tolerate Keppinger being poor with the bat, just field the ball and get the out.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 02:13 PM) I can't believe so many people are comparing De Aza to Michael Bourn as being so close to each other. Yeah, sure, they use a similar skill set, but Bourn is the superior player. And Bourn is only 1 1/2 years older than De Aza. And he will be paid >$15 million more next season.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 09:37 PM) I saw on Twitter that it will be the highest payroll in the history of baseball. According to Cot's, their payroll was $198 million BEFORE they signed Greinke. There are also rumors that they are going hard after Anibal Sanchez. Stark -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 02:05 AM) With our depth at the #5 spot, I would have loved McCarthy. If he gets hurt, it's not the end of the world and you're only paying him $7.75 million. If he's healthy, the net return will be pretty damn good. I seriously hope A.J. is not the reason we didn't bid more aggressive on BMac. Flowers can fill in just fine IMO and A.J. is very unlikely to hit 27 home runs ever again. The sox have too much pitching depth and talent to spend that kind of cash on another back of the rotation starter. The only way it makes sense is if some mythical team finally decides they really want to trade for Floyd instead of signing a guy like McCarthy (which you'll note, keeps not happening) -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) JIM BOWDEN @JimBowdenESPNxm Indians hoping to sign Nick Swisher for 4yrs $48-$50m...but market shift has him looking for 4yrs $60m And we got rid of him to avoid 8-figures. -
If she tires of him and tries to come back, he's better off saying no. If she would leave him for that...he's better off looking elsewhere and letting her be the one to figures the future out. The next week or two will not be easy but once it is over, that's done and he can move on. The best thing he can do is never look back even if she tries. If he gets down, buy him a drink and convince a bar band to play his favorite song. Once he is past the immediate part, the emotions let up some and be can start looking again.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 11:48 PM) Spot on. The whole Youk thing just sounded better than it actually was. It sure was exciting when we got him though; most exciting time I've had as a Sox can since 25-5. Youk actually did just fine for us. The problem was he wasn't Youk any more. He didn't put up a .425 obp for us. He was worth it because he was better than a guy who may never be healthy again and he had some huge home runs. If he could be healthy again he could be a solid player but he wasn't even healthy for us. All his value was in a couple home runs. Put him in a park with a big LF and all that value is gone unless he can get back to being an obp god.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 10:48 PM) Should anyone but Von Miller win defensive player of the year? Unless he tears an acl next week No. (JJ Watt is a decent second)

If it makes anyone feel good by comparison...I have literally watched less than 1 minute of nba action this year: including all teams. I have no reason to watch that sport right now. I will watch 48 minutes the day th Bulls have #1 in the starting lineup. Until that day, this sport is effectively hockey to me So if you want to call anyone a bad fan, call me it. I seriously don't care one bit.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 07:00 PM) If Hamilton is only going to get three or four years I'd definitely consider it. The new TV deal money is going to lead to larger payrolls across the game and $25 million for an elite hitter like Hamilton won't seem quite as crazy in the near future IMO. Look what average OFs are getting in free agency this year, things will only get worse in a year or two. Is his contract insurable? That's my biggest Q; you can't spend $30 mil a year on him then have him miss a whole season, either because of injury or other.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 07:34 PM) I'd give them Jordan Danks for Juan Francisco. I actually like Francisco's talent too. He has a nice, fluid motion and he can hit the ball a long ways. He still strikes out a ton - 70 in 205 PAs last year, for 34.1%; Dunn struck out at 34.2% - he doesn't draw walks, and he doesn't hit for average. Yeah, Jordan Danks. Nothing more than that. "Moves that won't happen until Justin Upton is off the market".

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 04:08 PM) I thought a special election was necessary. No? In that case, NVM. A special election to fill the seat will happen in 2014, but until then the governor will be able to announce a replacement. Both of SC's Senate Seats will be up for a vote in 2014. So yeah, this. (here's the guy DeMint actually suggests should replace him).

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 05:04 PM) One less vote to support any Republican Senate filibusters. For now. Eh? Why? Nikki Haley gets To name a replacement.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 11:56 AM) 7th in ERA 6th in runs allowed 9th in ER Just want to clarify You've got an axis inversion in there. The Sox allowed the 6th most ER in the AL; in that stat, a high ranking is bad, while tey have the 9th best ERA: in that a low number is good.
