  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 10:33 AM) And how does this new information that they rationalized away their cognitive dissonance not fit exactly with Bergen's perspective? "Believing Bin Laden was just some tool to make them take their eyes off of Iraq" might fit ok, but it's a step farther than anything that's been really stated before by anyone.
  2. I'll endorse this Peter Bergen perspective from 9 years ago:
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 10:22 AM) I read it more as them willing to do anything to rationalize their focus on Saddam. UBL working with Saddam was a quick, superficial way to dismiss other concerns and keep focusing on Saddam and his nuclear weapons. edit: It's two people: "An intelligence official and a member of the Bush administration both told me in interviews" edit2: and he cites a brief that specifically references this crazy idea in the paragraph following my excerpt. Just remember...anonymous quotes from sources with no information about who they are, what other motivations they have, what their history is of truth-telling, or why they're the ones telling this story while no one else has said so in 11 years... Sounds exactly like how they sold the Iraq war.
  4. Wanting to conduct their stupid, stupid, stupid war in Iraq doesn't necessarily equate to they thought UBL was faking being a threat to help Saddam. I believe the 9/11 commission report showed that they also were much more focused on the threat from ballistic missiles than they were from terrorism as well, but again, that's different from what's written there.
  5. So that's based on one anonymous source with an axe to grind?
  6. Nearly collapsed when Rios hit that damn ball.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 09:49 AM) yes. but you are also correct Depends a ton on the health of ARod and Tex. When 2-3 of the starting pitchers we're relying on are lefties, if those guys aren't 100%, their lineup loses a lot of its punch against lefties.
  8. This would be a bleeping huge game to win. Please do better than 2/15 with RISP. Or at least get a hit with RISP early so that I don't nearly faint when it happens. Man up Jake.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 09:15 AM) On May 28, Cleveland was in first place. On September 11, they are tied for last, 17½ games out. I wonder if that's some kind of record for going from first to last. I think the 1999 Cubs have something to say about that one.
  10. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 10:10 PM) That's the average salary, which indicates the teacher has worked 14 years. Also, why didn't you bother trying to refute the second part of my post? Lastly, I've been trying to find the 16% pay increase proposal from the City of Chicago and not a newspaper article. Anyone got it? Sorry, I really just can't find it. It's probably a moot point since it seems that the unions have agreed to it. Thanks. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 10:30 PM) I haven't been able to find that number, except for newspaper articles citing what CPS alleges to have offered. FWIW, The Tribune cites that same number in its editorial column that will be published tomorrow. But yes, the dollars seem to been agreed upon. Here's what I had yesterday. 3% followed by successive 2%'s comes to just over 9% raise over the lifetime of the deal. Restoring the 4% raise they didn't get still doesn't push things to 16%. The assumption seems to be that there are some other seniority related increases that will offset the remainder, but basically as far as I could tell yesterday the raises on paper were nothing more than cost of living increases.
  11. Appears something hit Jupiter yesterday. Going to assume this has something to do with that ball Alex Rios hit.
  12. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) Do they leave Q in? I'd take him out after 7, but robin is always iffy on that.
  13. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 10:14 PM) Omogrosso and Septimo? Seriously? Would you rather see Myers?
  14. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 10:08 PM) Whats the Sox rand in D so far this year?....Still at the top? This Tigers team can do all the huffing & puffing they want but whoever said defense wins championships was so right. This Tigers d is going nowhere if you cant field the baseball. Only team with fewer errors is Seattle
  15. Ok I'm going to just write the 0/12 and hope that they prove me wrong in some way other than only getting 1 at bat.
  16. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 09:51 PM) Maybe Q is not out of gas or tired....He just has serious problems for those first 2 innings EVERY game. I'm going to go with that being his tired arm/cut back on throwing symptom.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 09:48 PM) Honestly the Tigers are playing just as badly. It's sad honestly. They have nothing nearly as impressive as this 0/10 with RISP going on. Even that Raburn drop.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) They really could use Olmedo tonight. Who should be playing? Because if there's one thing we have too much of tonight...it's hustle.
  19. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 09:43 PM) 0/10. This is truly impressive
  20. Should I just type the 0/10 now? I don't think it can even count as a jinx.
