  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) There is no way McQuery should be allowed on the sidelines to coach Saturday! I'll add another voice onto this. Clean the **** house.
  2. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 10:56 PM) oh s***. we better bail them out then. Wouldn't be the first time.
  3. Things you should not do when your campaign is dealing with multiple sexual harassment claims: 1. Refer to the former Speaker of the House as "Princess Nancy".
  4. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 03:35 AM) Don't think I've seen a candidate who has crashed and burned in a period of 2 months. more in my life. Maybe he should have skipped the remaining debates.
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 04:00 AM) Am I the only one who thinks making Joe Paterno out to be a child molester is QUITE a reach? Also, am I the only non-PSU student that believes they should have just let Paterno finish out the season? The fact that people keep pretending that anyone has actually said this or that somehow people are making this out to be the case is all you need to know about how week the "Pro-Joe" position is.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 08:21 AM) How many boys between 2002 and 2009 were affected by this? How many could have been prevented? There are several specifically referred to in the Grand Jury report that happened between 2002 and now, including kids who were brought to penn state functions.
  7. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) But we fire and destroy a career and reputation of anyone he might have told about it. God, we're screwed up in this country. Yeah, I'd say that sounds like a fair reply to failing to act to prevent the rape of a few dozen kids.
  8. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 09:34 PM) Paid for by the Re-elect Obama campaign You stole that from a political cartoon.
  9. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 09:48 PM) good The us exposure to French banks is quite large.
  10. Crap. Wonder if this will convince players from there to add more security.
  11. 6 hours of negotiations, no agreement, sounds like the players budged some on the BRI but they want looser luxury tax rules in reply. No idea if the owners actually pulled the last offer as threatened.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) I heard that yesterday, there's just absolutely no way that can be a complete coincidence, right? Of course there is. "Going missing" is not something that happens everydya, but it's not completely impossible, and for a DA, the guy has probably handled thousands of cases over the years which could provide motive. I mean it could be related, but it's certainly entirely possible that it's just a coincidence.
  13. Deadline passed, negotiations still ongoing.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 05:22 PM) It's not some background investigation, either. His life-long friend and coach was forced to retire over it. It's an assumption but a pretty safe one that Joe would know why he was leaving. Even if he truly didn't, he still knew what the allegations were in 2002 and that Sandusky was barred from bringing children around. At some point you can't miss all of the flashing lights and blaring sirens without doing it intentionally. This is one part where I'm willing to accept that Shack might have a point. The Human Brain has this wierd set of defense mechanisms that kick in under unique circumstances. An outsider might recognize it as simple denial, or a lack of recognition of what is going on around him. It's entirely possible that his brain simply refused to allow himself to see all the flashing lights. These type of things do happen, and they're hard to deal with. That said...if that's really what happened, if Paterno simply couldn't process it, then he deserves every bit of criticism he gets, and he should have resigned yesterday so that his students wouldn't be celebrating on his lawn when he got hom.
  15. David Stern's "Take it or leave it" deadline is in 5 minutes.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 04:49 PM) The police caught him redhanded and nothing was done...I don't really know how that could have happened, but if they're not going to arrest him for admitting to showering with a young boy, I don't see how they'd arrest him for going to a football practice. But if Paterno made a big scene about him having a young boy at that football practice, that's a "wait, wtf"? moment.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) Dammit, people, this is children being raped. Anyone who thinks JoePa & Co did nothing wrong by doing the absolute least required by law (though they may not have) is just insane. Also, Joe Pa's little ra-ra session on his lawn today, finishing with "Beat Nebraska!" followed by cheers from mindless idiots is everything that's wrong with the world. "These poor victims. Beat Nebraska!" BTW, that's the "Greeting" Joe Paterno got upon arriving at his house last night.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) And how do you know he didn't find out and say get that sick sob away from my practices? We just don't know right now. Because making that kind of scene about a random former assistant coach showing up to practice with a young boy would kind of...um...make people start to wonder what the deal was and whether there should be police involved.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 04:32 PM) Who here has said he shouldn't be fired? If the longest running head football coach in U.S. collegiate history has committed an offense that is fireable by even his defender's opinion...and he is refusing to resign, then you've just set up why this is the biggest story in sports, and why that coach will receive extra attention and extra blame. A coach committing an offense for which he should be fired, and then refusing to resign, in a major sports program, that is something for which the coach is going to receive heavy criticism.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) Again, this is all very easy to criticize his behavior in hindsight. But can you seriously argue that there weren't several people far more responsible, but even more importantly, professionally capable to deal with this situation after Paterno reported it than he? None of that changes my statement that the right thing for him to do right now is resign. If he is unable to decide to do that, or unwilling to, then the university needs to do it for him, and fire him in disgrace.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) Well this is where the part about him being an 85 year old man who still thinks he should be coaching a football team comes in. That's what I meant in my first post in the thread. He obviously needs to be "helped" out of the way. We shouldn't suddenly expect him to realize that now. But what that tells me is that this 85 year old man does not fully comprehend what this situation means. His priorities are still wrong. This horrible situation happened under him, and yet he still thinks he should be coaching his football team, and that it's up to everyone else to deal with this problem...just like it was up to everyone else to deal with the problem when it first came up. And that...I'm afraid, makes him look awful. That makes the "Shell Shock" excuse something I no longer care about...because he's still acting that way now.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) Ok, now substitute Coach Sandusky with someone you have known for 30 years...that you never suspected this of...and that you know has had ample opportunity to be around young, naked men for that entire time. My guess is Paterno was extremely horrified and probably had a lot more situations than the one reported to him flash through his mind. Some things are really almost too difficult to comprehend. And now that everything is out in the open, now that everything has been revealed...I could accept that. I could accept that he was simply shell-shocked at the time. I really could believe that. But if that's the explanation, if that's exactly what happened, then he needs to resign. That means he made a mistake, and now that everyone out there understands the mistake he made, he needs to take the step to show that he's coming to grips with his own actions. End his involvement in the story, get out of the way, and let Penn State deal with the many more hard days ahead without having to worry about him.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 03:48 PM) [derail]prosecutors seem to be immune from intentional misconduct, so probably[/derail] what about civil liabilities?
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 03:46 PM) I'd be more surprised if it wasn't, to be perfectly honest. And that's certainly worse than Paterno's actions. Would that be enough to send a DA to prison or are they protected in some fashion?
