  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) Read my post again if you think I said that. Then you're agreeing with my original statement that having Aaron Rogers start right away was an invitation for him to become a mediocre quarterback?
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) Im not arguing the fact that he had questionable mechanics balta. You say it was risking him becoming an Alex Smith, the situations arent even close to compareable. Smith had a different OC every season, and was surrounded in absolute s*** talent and coaching for the first 6 years of his career. Aaron Rodgers has had the same coaching staff from his second year on, with a ready made playoff team surrounding him as well. They arent even close to the same situation. Do you think that if Aaron Rogers had somehow stepped in and been given the starting job right away that he'd have had this level of success? I suppose its possible, but I would say that both physically, technically, and psychologically, the 3 years on the bench were incredibly important for him. I don't see Luck needing anything like that.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) LOL, ok. So you say. Records of this were not hard to find. Link
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 09:07 AM) What does the money look like for the #1 pick now? I just can't see anyone turning this kid down. He is a once in a generation type by all indications. 4 year deal, $22 million guaranteed for Cam Newton.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 09:03 AM) Mitch Daniels isn't a complete idiot though. Instead of being all flash and no substance, he is the exact opposite. In this field of dreams, that would play pretty well. Everything he said that wasn't bluster would immediately get turned against him though. Look how well having to defend Texas having allowed children of "Illegals" to go to school has played for Perry - arguably did more damage to him than his debate performances. And it doesn't take another candidate having to officially bring up a statement...casually leaking things on background to reporters works just fine as a way to make "Mitch Daniels endorsed this tax increase to pay for health care" as the subject of the week.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 08:59 AM) Rodgers sat for 3, and I think we all can see that he probably could have come in sooner and played competently, if not very well. Peyton Mannings injury really isnt something a doctor can put a timetable on, especially with spinal stenosis in his family with Cooper. My dad had the exact same surgery as Manning and shortly thereafter developed stenosis, and there really isnt anything you can do about it. Sometimes your body just does weird things. I think if the Colts manage the 1st round pick, they take Luck and hope they can squeeze a few years out of Peyton with Luck learning from him. And if Peyton cannot go, then Luck is there and you dont have to watch Painter and Collins flounder around a few more years. Rogers was a mid-20's pick who a lot of people thought had serious mechanical issues coming out of college. Having Rogers start right away was an invitation to turning him into Alex Smith. Having Luck sit for 3 years is a complete waste...he ought to be starting by day 1 in the league.
  7. Hate it.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 08:41 AM) I can't see anyone trading Luck. Even if Indy were to get him, they keep him. If the Colts get that pick, I think they'd seriously consider moving him. The price would be high, but someone would probably pay it. Like "2 firsts, 2 2nds, 2 3rds" high...but if you've got Manning, and the medics tell you he will be back next year and he has 5 more years in his career...I'd do that trade. Andrew Luck is not going to be an asset sitting on the bench for 4 years.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 01:03 AM) I got a feeling this off-season is gonna be a lot like the 09 one. We're not going to sign anyone worthwhile. If anything, it's going to be some reclamation project for Cooper to fix or some role players for the bench. The opening day lineup is pretty much set already. I like the idea of Bedard a lot, but I think he'll get a decent deal from somebody. He's coming off a decent season. I would not mind bringing in a Josh Willingham for the right amount of money as insurance. Just in case Dunn or Rios both suck it up next year. David DeJesus also seems like a good buy-low candidate. I'd actually be a little frustrated if we looked at this roster and thought "What we really need is another OF." We have 5 who deserve playing time either based on their performance or based on their contracts already. We can trade Q and still have more OF's than starting spots for them.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 30, 2011 -> 07:36 PM) i have no arguments that he is a bad QB. I fully believe that. I also think he is a big part of Denvers "Suck for Luck" campaign. They just need to hope that Miami catches fire and pulls out a few games Indy?
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 30, 2011 -> 07:05 PM) Viciedo is a poor comparison. Tebow spent all last season at the NFL level and started games last season. he shouldnt be raw, he should have a grasp of the offense now if he ever will. it is pretty obvious now that his flaws are being exposed and teams are going to force him to throw, which he is pretty bad at. Didn't denver fire their coach/offensive coordinator and bring in a whole new system this year? (Yes). Everyone out there could have predicted he'd take time to develop even if he'd fallen to the 3rd round in the draft like he probably should have (just to take the pressure off of him). Yes, he has lots of flaws, yes he shouldn't have been a first round pick, but yes, Denver needs to shut up, stop talking about him, answer every question with "He's a young quarterback and these things will take time."
  12. The real problem for Denver is that management wants, and probably needs, to celebrate that player as much as humanly possible...because he's a revenue machine, even on a losing team. But every time he gives an interview, everything he does to grow "The Tebow phenomenon" will make it harder for that team to grow and will make it that much harder for him to grow.
  13. Evil!
  14. Do the Tebow
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 30, 2011 -> 06:55 PM) except for the fact he isnt a rookie Hell, he's close enough that I don't care. I'll think of Viciedo as a rookie next year and technically he wasn't a rookie this year. Denver made their own bed, now they need to sleep in it. But if they're smart, they'll start fighting against "Tebowmania" every step of the way. Every bad game he has is going to get so incredibly magnified because there is such polarization about him...I don't know that any QB has ever had to deal with anything like that before. All of last week was Tebow as a miracle worker, it will be the complete opposite this week, and it will grate on the entire team.
  16. Blasted people..
  17. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Oct 30, 2011 -> 06:50 PM) agreed. Yeah we're overpaying for the guy by maybe $2 million per season. Darn. I promise to limit my complaints.
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 30, 2011 -> 06:10 PM) No thanks. I'd do that if M-56 wanted 3 years.
  19. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 30, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) Tebow is not an NFL QB. This is very obvious. He's a very raw rookie. I'd avoid judging him for a season or two.
  20. QUOTE (MAX @ Oct 30, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) Yeah I was talking about deadline time 2011 with the second part of my post. Not sure why I called it last year. They could have moved him quite easily in may 2010. They probably felt entitled to a return, if they even tried. He was coming off a .300 year. I am not going to believe otherwise without a reason. What is the reason? Why do you state it like its a fact? AJ complaining about the 2010 trade rumors isn't enough? There are also people here who have said flat out the Sox tried to trade AJ and received crickets chirping in reply. AJ also hit about .220 in April, 2010, so his 2010 numbers looked like crap at the time.
  21. QUOTE (MAX @ Oct 30, 2011 -> 02:47 PM) What makes you think they'd move him in 2010? He had no suitable replacement then. Last year too. Was he even healthy at the deadline? They were still going "all in" at the time. The phrase "All in" wasn't used until offseason 2010. They tried to move him in May 2010, before the 25-5 run, and would have done so had anyone wanted him. Yes he was healthy, but he was also a free agent at the end of the year, so moving him would have been an effort to get something for him. He also earned 10-5 rights in June of 2010.
  22. QUOTE (MAX @ Oct 30, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) I really believe that AJ is worth much more than people around here seem to think in trade. He might be type A next year too. 6 mil isn't really that much money for a year. They've at least shopped him 2 years in a row. 2010, they'd have moved him had they had any takers, and that was when he was paid less.
  23. QUOTE (TheHugeUnit @ Oct 30, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) No. How so? Romine is at least valued comparitively with Montero since he's more likely to stick at catcher, and you're adding in extra pitchers, for a guy who had a terrible year last year. The Yankees are just going to sign CJ in that case.
  24. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 30, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) Wouldn't be surprised to see Escobar traded this offseason, actually. Escobar is going to be blocked for a while. I wouldn't be stunned, but I don't know where the Sox would get a return big enough to make that worth it for the Sox.
  25. QUOTE (TheHugeUnit @ Oct 30, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) Really? I'd build a package around Romine. Romine, Phelps/Mitchell(both Triple-A pitchers who are MLB ready or near MLB ready) and JR Murphy/Slade Heathcott. That's more than they were willing to give up for Cliff Lee.
