  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) There are many on both sides who are willing to give something up, unfortunately the voice of the Israeli people, Netanyahu, has seemingly been opposed to peace since the beginning. Back in 1993 Rabin was furious with him, and it should always be noted that unlike Rabin, Netanyahu lived a considerable amount of time in the US. If Rabin had not been murdered, I fully believe that there would be a Palestinian state and there would be some semblance of peace between Israel and the more moderate Arab nations. It may be 5 years it may be 100 years, but there will be another Rabin. Because at the end of the day, the treatment of Palestinians is incompatible with being Jewish. Some just choose to gloss over that fact. Let's also give credit where credit is due. In 2000, Prime Minister Barak offered what will probably be the best deal the Palestinians will ever be offered. Based on the 1967 borders with agreed upon land swaps (the horror!). That offer was turned down by one Yasser Arafat, who, as far as everyone can guess...simply decided in the end that he did not want to make peace, and so the most recent "Intifiada" was launched.
  5. Keep guessing boys names, you're bound to get one right soon enough.

  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 04:22 PM) If we are really a contender there's great downside to waiting another week or 2. A Detroit sweep pretty much ends our season. Eight out. We ain't making that up against a Leyland team. If this team is able to contend, then they need to prove it. We're not in a position to add Jose Reyes to totally remake things for a one-shot run here. We could use another RH arm in the bullpen or some 3b help or a backup C if we're making a run, but really, that's it. We're not benching Rios, we're not benching Dunn, if Viciedo is called up it's because we've thrown the ol towel in.
  11. Clemens case declared a mistrial after prosecutorial misconduct.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 04:06 PM) I know someone posted it but I can't find it again. The claim that NewsCorp got $4B+ in tax credits was wrong That was me, posted it in the Dem thread. Thanks for the correction.
  13. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) Every year it's the team he put together, and he has to realize that things aren't going the way they should. I don't think he'll make a lot of moves, but he'll do something. If the month continues miserable for the next week or two I think (and hope) the selling will begin. I don't see a big run in this team, but I could be wrong. I see them hovering around .500 ball and only a few changes being made. Right now he's playing for time. There's little downside to waiting another week or so, the deadline is 2.5 weeks away, if someone is offering talent for one of your players it's unlikely that their offer will decrease as the deadline approaches unless there is a better player on the market (and very few teams are selling pitching).
  14. The other key is to change the codes constantly so that you don't get caught.
  15. Quality airport bathrooms are hard to find.
  16. Obviously, after the Larry Craig thing, I'm still on topic with that hit.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 03:17 PM) Not enough right wing talk for that to happen... You were saying something about swings and misses?
  18. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) this unfortuantely is exactly what i see the sox doing and somehow we will be stuck with no changes whether it be selling or buying I can't imagine trader Kenny standing pat. Whether he's adding or subtracting, he'll do something.
  19. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) both sides just need to accept a deal that they will consider bad. And we all know that tax increases of any sort are impossible. Wait, what deal were we talking about?
  20. New posters in this thread...please note the "Rules" thread in this forum.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) Bernanke is stepping away from QE3 in front of Congress, saying it might not even be effective. The fact that it's now being floated, when what, 30 days ago they seemed insistent that it was time to pull out the supports, says a lot. He also says that cutbacks in federal spending would be particularly bad, I note.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 02:04 PM) I can't believe you thought that was anything but a rhetorical question based on the habit of posting links to your original post anytime someone posts something after you did. I really need to start using green or something because you really have been swinging and missing a lot lately. I'm just taking after Adam Dunn.
  23. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) Define hard sell. If you're proposing a full rebuild, then I think that's a huge mistake. I'm down for a couple moves, such as trading Jackson and Quentin, but I don't think we're that far off from competing next year. I think anything beyond a few tweaks is a huge mistake. What team should we be scared of in 2012? Not saying we'll be the favorite, but I don't see any team in the division who's going to be dominant. I still think you try to make one more run at it in 2012 before you even consider rebuilding. I don't think that what I'd consider a "Hard sell" would preclude fielding a winning team next year...unless the budget is going to be cut substantially...which is entirely possible. If we have to get down to $100 million in salary next year, and we still have Rios, Peavy, and Dunn on the books, that's big trouble. The team could compete next year if those 3 lived up to par and guys like Humber, Sale, Beckham, and Morel stepped up. But if those 3 are a drag, then I don't see how this team can be a winning team.
  24. Although I'm still convinced CCS will never be effective/profitable, it's still worth pointing this out since "Stopping research into it" is a direct result of the failure of Congress to act.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) Just because this is your hobby... Did you check page two? http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=82342 Clearly no. Had I seen that thread that would have been a great place to put the heat map and the swing and miss numbers.
