  1. The Heat have "Worked out" Eddy Curry and could sign him for the playoffs.
  2. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) This just a scam to give GE billions more in tax payer money. f*** them. I don't want to contribute to this. Would it help if we gave the money to Exxon instead?
  3. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) A winnable game until NL 2.0 had to inject "strategy" into the game. Hell, can we also at least note that the majority of the bullpen was awful?
  4. QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) You would be already be looking to buy World Series tickets if the Sox had all three of them. Like we were in 2006 when we had an incredible 5 man rotation coming off of a dominant world series showing.
  5. Orioles LHP Zach Britton will make his debut today, filling in for Matusz, who is out for a couple weeks.
  6. EEEK, a Matt Thornton headhunting pitch.
  7. QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) And they're all on the same team which makes Philadelphia a cinch to get to the series. No, it doesn't.
  8. Humber's first 2 pitches were both hittable and up.
  9. Well, let's see how "For real" Humber is.
  10. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) It is a 3 run game Touche.
  11. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 03:09 PM) Sure and Tuesday it will be a week since he last pitched. It's a 1 run game though. A "Closer" could still easily wind up useful. If you're going to designate a "Closer", you may as well be stubborn about it.
  12. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) Ohman again? Why not Thorton? There is an off day tomorrow correct? Thornton is in the closer's spot now.
  13. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) Do you think that he will get that contract if he pitches just like he has the last two seasons? Absolutely. 215 innings in the AL with an ERA regularly under 4, for a guy who will be hitting the FA market before he turns 28, and who happens to throw from the LH side, with no real injury history? If he takes another step somehow, then you go from talking 7/$120 to talking 7/$150.
  14. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) Danks is a good pitcher, but please stop using the word 'Ace' next to his name, he's nowhere close to earning that title yet If we're ripping D1, seriously look at the actual numbers. 6 IP, 6 h, 2 ER, 1 BB, 8 K's. If Roy Halladay put up that line, you wouldn't be sitting there saying "He's not an ace!".
  15. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) What about Danks makes you say that? Is it just the amount of money committed? And the length. That is market rate for a 27-28 year old LH starting pitcher right now. And on the FA market, teams are simply overpaying for starting pitching because there isn't enough of it.
  16. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) He is a f***ing LOOGY that is it. Guillen is trying to make him something he is not. This is Randy Williams all over again. Randy Williams's problem is that he couldn't get lefties out either. Of course...right now...Ohman can't throw a strike to a lefty.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) Will Ohman's ERA is in the 40s somewhere, still... 36 actually.
  18. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 02:57 PM) I don't think it's that ridiculous either, but if you really think about it, unless you lock up an ace in his first arb year, you're going to have to pay him that much money, and a player would be stupid to take anything less. It is the economics of baseball today. If you have an ace on your team, you either have to pay up in both dollars and years or he's gone. I think that for most pitchers the 3 year rule is a sound practice, but the economics of baseball state that you have to give at least 6/100 to a 27-28 year old ace a year away from FA or on the open market. It is what it is. Balta, if Danks takes that next step he's going to get that type of contract. If Danks takes that next step this year, I'd like to see him do it until the ASB next year and if he keeps it up, then talk extension. What do you think would be a reasonable contract to offer Danks if he indeed pitches like an ace for the next two years? 7/$120. And I wouldn't want to be the team paying it.
  19. If Ohman is truly a "LOOGY" type pitcher, then he ought to be walking Cabrera here.
  20. Yeah guys, they still have Dunn, Konerko, Quentin, and Pierzynski still coming up.
  21. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 02:45 PM) I hope we play 9, theres plenty of time to win it. Seems like most of the rain is just going to blow by cleveland.
  22. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) Actually it would be KW's MO to keep him around and take the two draft picks. I think it totally depends on what happens this season. If Danks becomes the ace that he has the ability to become, Maybe JR finally keeps a big money pitcher around because he wants to win more. Maybe we've seen the beginning of the new White Sox business model for a while, where we are players in the FA market and we don't let good players walk because of a stupid "3 year rule" I wouldn't want to be the team offering John Danks 7/$120.
