  1. The Rays have not held a lead this year. D1, keep it that way.
  2. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 07:28 AM) Was that really a slider that Jackson was throwing? I've never seen a slider with that much downward movement. The ball was diving straight down, as if falling off a table. That looks more like a splitter to me. The velocity was pretty consistently around 87 to 89. Does that seem a little high for a split finger fastball? That's Jackson's hard slider.
  3. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 07:01 PM) I realize it's just a matter of circumstances with the extra inning games and the fact they went with 11 pitchers to start the season and kept Milledge around after his very good spring.It sure didn't help him any for Ozzie to put him in left and DH Pierre. Why not just DH Milledge ? I also realize that Ozzie probably was just sticking to some sort of preplanned thing to give regulars time off, but if you're going to be playing any way why not keep people where they are most accustomed to being. Juan Pierre played 160 games last year. Ozzie's going to put him out there almost every day. If you can buy an extra day off for Pierre by putting him at DH for a day or two, you absolutely do it.

    It's not just that. Most of the stores have rules against using a ton of coupons per purchase or making dozens of separate purchases. They're actively waiving their own coupon rules for the publicity from the show.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 05:16 PM) I saw it live. Jackson has had plenty of standout performances. That's not his problem. It's command and overall consistency. I think I disagree with this. I think Jackson's problem was games like last time out...where he didn't have his best stuff. When he's on, he demolishes people, it's been like that since he was with the Rays. THe issue is...what happens if he's not on? Can he pitch through it or not? Lately, he's been doing exactly that.
  6. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) I get "huffy" because it's been the same old song and dance up to this point. Thank God Edwin Jackson has been good. Yeah, the same old song and dance. No accountability. Except for Lastings Milledge. Who got held accountable.
  7. Hmph, turns out I was right, they just let EJax keep pitching.
  8. That's what, 0 hits, 9k's since the 2nd batter of the game?' Edit: 10.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 02:57 PM) At this rate we should get 6 innings tops out of Jackson. 47 pitches through 3, that gives 94 through 6. Would Ozzie pull him at 94? If he's struggling sure, but I'd let him go for a couple more outs.
  10. QUOTE (WinorDie88 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) No 2 out trouble here please. Edwin said no.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) That a boy Rios! And for those saying he was struggling this year, he's looked just fine. He was tattooing the ball in cleveland, people were just catching them.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) Rios is hitting .625 with 2 HR against Price. Snicker.
  13. Pierre has gotten off to so much better of a start this year it's not even funny.
  14. QUOTE (peanut33tillman @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) I'm not sure statistically how we've been over the years but I promise if it feels like we never throw runners out. I may be wrong it just seems that way. You're not wrong. AJ Pierzynski is not good at throwing out runners behind the plate, and a couple of the Sox's pitchers (Floyd, Garcia) have very slow motions to the plate. The Sox are, with AJ, generally at the lower end of the league in %ages.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) It's really quite disturbing, especially considering how much we struggle running the bases. Yeah, and we never see other teams make baserunning mistakes against us. And we also have no one who steals bases against other teams.

    I'm done teaching class now, so I can elaborate. In a subduction zone earthquake, the area of the fault that breaks is directly proportional to the energy released. A magnitude 9 event releases about 100x as much energy as a magnitude 7 event. It doesn't scale perfectly linearly, but you can safely assume that a magnitude 7.4 event was more than a factor of 10 smaller displacement than the large event. These 2 were also centered closer to the islands than the original event. They were therefore probably deeper, which would also mean less oceanic displacement. You can still have something crazy happen. If the magnitude 7 event set off a large landslide, that alone could create a local or regional tsunami, so the tsunami warning center will be overly cautious. They will give a tsunami warning after a quake too small to directly trigger a large tsunami until they know for a fact that there isn't one, for that reason.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) Eh. No idea then. Maybe he is out of options. He was signed to a minor league contract but then made the team. I'd assume that means he has to pass through waivers to go down.
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) You know, Jackson threw a no-hitter vs. the Rays last year..... And he gave up a hit today before an out. Come on EJ.
  19. Isn't Fuld the guy they got from the Cubs?
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 02:04 PM) Nice to see Rios rewarded for his inept hitting so far and put 3rd. If the Sox don't look good against Price and Lilli sucks today the Milledge thread will get longer. Rios is hitting .625 with 2 HR against Price.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) Those LED's are ridiculously expensive. I was looking at $90 for one light fixture's worth for dimmable ones. I decided not to bother since I rarely use that light. CFL's, on the other hand, are now $2/4 pack at Home Depot thanks to Com Ed subsidies. I still don't understand why ComEd and Nicor subsidize higher efficiencies since it means you'll use less energy. Give the LED's time. They're on the same downward price curve as solar right now.

    QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 10:54 AM) 7.4 is pretty massive, though no 8.9. Anyone know how bad this tsunami will be? Very likely not large, although there could be local effects. 7.4 on a Subduction zone is not huge in terms of total displacement. These are aftershocks.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 09:37 PM) When people get CFL bulbs they get less diligent about turning them off when they leave the room They'd have to leave them on 4x as long to make up for the power consumption difference. 8x once you get to LED's.
