4/6/11 - Sox vs. Royals - 1:10 (CSN)
Coming into today, the Sox had scored 30 runs in 4 games. The Rangers have scored 35 runs in 5 games. The Sox are still one of the top offenses in the league right now. Seriously. If "Something needs to change", then all we're going to do is go down. Edit: oh, and you know how the Sox last year scored such a huge %age of their runs on HR? They were one of the top offenses in the league, with only 3 HR hit.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) IIRC his ratings were still way higher than anything MSNBC was putting up. It's not just his ratings. Aside from 3-4 companies, no one, and I mean no one, was dumb enough to buy advertising time with him. That's why 1/2 his ads were for goldline and for survival packs and shelters. No major company wanted to be buying advertising time on his show if one of his fans went on a shooting rampage, or if he said something like "Obama has a deep-seated hatred of white people". On top of that, the demographics were terrible. Almost as old as O'Reilly's, less educated, lower income.

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) What I'm wondering is how many years we have to see this crap before someone here acknowledge that something has to change with this coaching staff. No matter what out roster looks like, EVERY YEAR our guys play fundamentally terrible. Call for coaching staff change...day 5. Did anyone beat that in a previous game thread?

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) Wow, game 5 and the sky is falling already? Of course. It's a game thread. The worse you feel about the team, the cooler you are.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) but have now not scored in the lst nine innings. 6 runs against Luke Hochaver is not all that impressive. Hochevar's career ERA is 5.61, which means that 6 runs in 6 innings against Hochevar is well above average.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) We could be 0-5, and it wouldn't change the outcome for the season. Doesn't matter who you beat or lose to right now, IMO. Just as a note...fathom of course went with 0-5 to make the point, not 5-0.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) Worse than Pierre??? (Obviously his arm is stronger) At least on that play, yes. That's at least -1.5 runs credited to Milledge now.

Adam Dunn had emergency appendectomy last night.
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) I could have sworn Matt Holliday was going to miss a month because of his. My friend just had an emergency appendectomy like 2 weeks ago and is still in the hospital I believe. He also is not a million dollar athlete though. Read back a page or two, I asked the same question and it was answered.

Barry Bonds' Perjury Trial
The prosecution rested their case yesterday. The defense rested today without calling a single witness.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) And, despite the press release's claim, I don't see anywhere in that study that addresses base load power supply issues presented by wind and solar. That's because you didn't read closely enough. There's a whole 2nd paper on that.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) Besides the stupid bunt a couple games back, I've been happy with Ozzie so far this season. Good lineup here. EDIT: Though on 2nd look I'd much rather have Lastings dh'ing. Other thing to remember....Juan Pierre never, ever, ever gets a day off. He'll never ask for one, and Ozzie will almost never force one on him. He played in 160 games last year (a couple PH appearances granted, like the day he saved us all from being no-hit). He's never going to get rest. It's a good thing when it's forced on him.

The environment thread
Bloomberg today with a similar business-end take. I particularly like the stressing of the different ways the price per watt are counted, where solar tends to be a combined number, some that is competing with wholesale power and some that is competing with retail power prices, which are of course higher.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) Link to the actual study? If you're not at an institution with a subscription to the journal "Energy Policy" I can't help you. If you are, I could be a jerk and say "Find it yourself". Here you go.

Not a great feeling about the KC series...
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 10:07 AM) An impressive 3.06 ERA for the season if you subtract those 2 1/3 IP and 6 earnies. For the season though he put up a 1.47 WHIP. More baserunners per inning than he gave up any other season of his career. That ERA isn't telling the story there. He'd come in, get a couple outs, and leave 2 men on for Cotts to clean up.

Not a great feeling about the KC series...
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) As bad as Vizcaino and Marte SEEMED that year, they were head and shoulders above Ohman, Pena and Humber/random minor leaguer. Really, I'm not sure about that. Vizcaino had his ups and downs too...Pena at least is likely to have some good outings as well, and does the same sorta thing in being the 2+ inning eating guy every now and then. Marte was almost unusable in the 2nd half. Both of them had better ERA's than how they were actually pitching because Hermy/Politte/Cotts would come in and bail them out when they got in trouble.

Adam Dunn had emergency appendectomy last night.
So, for whenever Pt stumbles in here... Why would one appendix removal knock a guy out for 3 weeks and another would knock a guy out for 5 days?

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) This early in the season? I could see towards the middle of the season, but not this early. Konerko probably wants to get in a rhythm and start the year off right. I think it's way too early to be talking about rest. If Konerko doesn't want the rest, then give him 1 day at DH whether he likes it or not and DH teahen the other 2.

Here's a tribune confirmation (also including the at least 5 days number) in case anyone was doubting.
