QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) Did Rios leg out that triple? MLB TV is supposed to be showing the game but the video feed isn't working. If you're a fan of the Sox on Facebook, go to your facebook feed. the video showed up there for me.

The environment thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) Well except that most of our plants aren't susceptible to a tsunami. The earthquake isn't what caused the problem here. SONGS' VP was on TV yesterday defending their emergency plans and saying they have back-up back-up diesel generators off-site that can be shipped in and hooked up in the case of a similar emergency there. They also have a 30 ft seawall in front of the plant. That said, I think the NEI, NRC, INPO, DOE and whatever other acronyms are appropriate need to review these plants' emergency plants and design assumptions ASAP. irrelevant note: ABC used some camera angles that were identical to pictures I took when I was there last fall. The ground motion at this site was also less than you'd get with some magnitude 7-8 events near U.S. nuclear plants, and others sit on 500 year floodplains of rivers. Anyway, my general point I think still stands. Engineers are great at responding to the last calamity. They're not very good at predicting the next one. After this, I'll be confident that every plant in the country will be able to deal with a cutoff of pumps due to flooding. That doesn't translate at all into the conclusion that disaster is impossible.

In other words, it's probably pretty analogous to what is going on in Japan, with the exception that this country does have some ability to reprocess the stuff so they're not necessarily stored forever.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) I don't think that matters in this case. Love has done his part and then some. That's a bad cast of characters around him. I don't see why his individual dominance is compromised because of that. Love has been one of the most statistically, standard and advanced, dominant players in the league. Why pigeonhole everything he does because his team sucks? Let me put it this way...would you agree or disagree with this statement. Kevin Love's record would be more impressive if he'd done it on a team that went 40-13 than one that went 13-40.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) So? You could say the same thing about Howard. Rose wouldn't be the front-runner for MVP had we signed 'bron or Wade. It doesn't take away from their skillset one bit. None of those teams are losing though. That's where this whole discussion comes from.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 01:22 PM) I think the feeling is his numbers wouldn't be nearly as impressive if he played on a team that has other players. For example, if he had a Noah or Boozer playing next to him, Love's numbers would come down a decent amount. That, I think, is the big reason why people look at that streak with skepticism given the team's record. Yes, he's single-handedly turned the TWolves into one of the league's better rebounding teams, but he also has no competition for the ball, and they have limited scoring options. He didn't even have to deal with the case where some guy in the frontcourt would just be having a great night and run off 30 points, like Boozer's done occasionally, thus denying him the ball.

You think I collect figures? I was dying over the fact that I didn't have $25k available to by the actual physical model of the Defiant that they used for production when it was auctioned off a few years ago.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 01:04 PM) Maybe it started ok, but the problem is the various networks have become entertainment networks, not news networks. They're basically 24/7 now, which means they have a ton of time to fill, and they normally fill it by having worthless debate about worthless topics that are clearly geared towards their selective audiences. This is one issue that I don't think anyone will debate.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 12:36 PM) I've been saying for years that cable "news" has been one of the worst things to happen to the world in the last 15-20 years. Interesting choice of dates...because 20 years ago was 1991, perhaps the single greatest moment of Cable News...CNN's broadcasts from Baghdad.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 10:04 AM) Dude, I got your back. Its an NBA thread on a SOX board. You can post whatever you want, especially since he's one of the best stories in the league. Yeah its annoying to some, so ignore it. All the rest of us ask in response is that the Kevin Love fans can't get annoyed when we note that no matter how special his streak was, no matter whether or not the TWOlves are one of the best rebounding teams in the league, that streak was during a run of 13-40 by the team. That's a marvel in itself.

I really liked this post. I was actually tempted to turn on CNN while eating breakfast this morning to see if the reactor had been evacuated (it was, temporarily during the night), but then I thought I was probably going to learn more coming to Soxtalk and turning on NPR on the way in. I was right.
