  1. We all feel that pain.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) Having this set in a little now, they would be absolutely stupid if they let him pick up a ball for ten days. Just shut him down, and start him over. Humber should start April 9th, and they should prepare him for that. I wouldn't necessarily shut him down...it's possible that could just inflame it more because then he'd have to rebuild the work. I'd probably go easy on him if he feels up to pitching Thursday, cut back on his workload a bit, and look for mid-April instead of opening day.
  3. Until you see the list of your posts that I've saved up...
  4. It really is amazing how the mistakes of the Iraq war permeate that reply. Refusing to accept the possibility that anything could ever go wrong. Assuming that things will be easy. Assuming that collateral damage doesn't exist. Great examples: You think THAT is a clear and attainable goal? The "Benghazi government"? That's a misnomer if there ever was such a thing. The organization in Egypt looks like a functioning democracy compared to the "Benghazi government". These are the same people who shot down their only jet fighter yesterday because they didn't realize what they were shooting at. If everything goes well, this is still a murky situation. People who aren't organized or well trained taking over a government in an oil-rich state, with lots of opportunities for corruption. And the assumption that everything will go well is no more logical here than it was in Iraq.
  5. Someday you'll realize this is how the pair of us got so high...in post counts...
  6. AT&T to buy T-Mobile.
  7. Arab League support for the Libyan operation suddenly appears tenuous.
  8. Obviously, I don't make many efforts to hide it.
  9. Just as I think Arizona's laws are unconstitutional, I don't see how this passes constitutional muster...but it's interesting to see a state pushing the other way. A guest-worker program without citizenship of course has its own problems...the whole "quasi-indentured-servitude" setup, but still, wanted to highlight it.
  10. Make those mistakes, I say.
  11. Keeping off your lawn.
  12. You don't get the fact that "non-persecution of another crime doesn't mean you can use it as a defense" and attacking Lugar for being blatantly wrong about the Iraq war are related statements? So...even the "new Libyan Regime" doesn't know who the new Libyan regime would be, yet we're not supporting anyone? Personally, I'm still a subscriber to the Powell doctrine. No, not the "If a Republican President tells me to do something I say 'yes sir' and sell out my credibility before the U.N., but if a Democrat tells me to do something I start leaking to the press how wrong he is" doctrine. The version he defined circa the gulf war. If you're going to launch a military action in the modern world, here are the questions: If we apply those to Afghanistan...we went wrong by not having a plausible exit strategy. If we apply to Iraq, we didn't have a vital national security interest, clear attainable objective, analyzed risks and costs, an exit strategy, broad international support, or an understanding of the consequences. Here, which ones of those do we have? A vital national security interest? Maybe at best. A clear attainable objective? I'm not sure what that is. If it's "preventing genocide", we don't...that's fundamentally unclear and difficult to attain via airstrikes. If it's a new regime, possibly that's a clear goal, but we certainly don't have the force levels to do that without ground forces. You admit yourself you don't know what is going to happen as a result of these strikes. An analysis of the risks and costs? Not even close. A plausible exit strategy? No. Consequences fully considered? No. Action supported by the American people? Barely at best. Genuine international support? Check. The additional corollary, that if you're going in you need to employ full and overwhelming force, similarly hasn't been achieved here.
  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) He supported the war in Iraq, where there was clearly no imminent humanitarian crisis and yet opposes trying to help the people of Libya escape genocide because the US needs to watch its money better? .... Oh yeah the first thing that they teach you about the law is that they cant catch everyone and non-prosecution of another crime does not mean that you can use it as a defense. Compare...statement a and statement b....
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) We arent supporting anyone in Libya, we are trying to prevent Gaddafi from massacring civilians. Can you actually type that with a straight face?
  15. Indiana, I'm gonna really be annoyed with you if this man gets teabagged in the primary.
  16. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 01:53 PM) Im not unhappy with it, it doesn't affect me. However, what you said holds no water...because if this law was in place BEFORE these businesses were built up and created 10 years ago before e-commerce was an everyday reality, these businesses wouldn't be threatening to leave or leaving (or closing shop because Amazon has now abandoned them). So Ecommerce wasn't an everyday reality in 2001?
  17. It's interesting how the politics of this play...when a Republican is in office, the DOD and military establishment couldn't be more gung-ho about military action. When a Democrat is in office, it's the humanitarians/internationalists who support military action, and the military establishment urges caution. NYT
  18. Indians 3b Jason Donald will not be ready for opening day, after being plunked on the hand by Gavin Floyd earlier this ST.
  19. Brian Wilson pulled a muscle in his beard ribcage, may miss opening day. Something's wrong with Cueto. Derek Lee made his preseason debut.
  20. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 19, 2011 -> 10:50 PM) They actually traded Williams on their own, he didn't even know about the trade until it was announced on Sportscenter. He also showed serious doubts about signing an extension, that doesn't sound like a guy that forced a trade (or at least this particular one). As for the other two, it's called free agency, it's been around for years. Some guys are going to stay, some aren't. Frankly, they should be fairly happy they had those guys for 7 years. Both of those guys could have switched teams three years ago, but they signed extensions with opt-out clauses instead. You just can't force guys to stay somewhere forever, just like you can't legislate stupid contracts and stupid roster moves out of the league. The league is darn well gonna try. If they can't at least legislate out some of the stupid contracts, they're going to lose the league.
  21. I'm somehow unsurprised...
  22. Good luck finding a working fax machine.
  23. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 01:16 PM) Not entirely. This is partially their fault for not reexamining online business the last 10 years, letting it ride as it, and suddenly deciding to change the rules they were happy to overlook for so long. Because of their own oversight, or outright ignorance of the tax laws, businesses were built around this model...and now these businesses are being penalized in select states because of it. This, again, is something that can't be selective per state...otherwise this is what happens, especially when every surrounding state is happy to let it stay as it was. At any point during the last 10 years, if Illinois had put together a law like this, you'd have been just as unhappy with it at that point.
  24. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) OK, so now what with Sale? He's the setup guy now? He's a setup guy yeah, but the question is...what is up with him? Why is he struggling so much?
