Minor League talent rankings
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 02:43 PM) It's a failure because obviously there was a mis-calculation, or just pure stupidity, that he could play 3B. That's what made him such an intriguing prospect. You can go to the Walmart and find a productive 1B/LF/RF. Although this statement was true 10 years ago in the middle of the needle-boom, it's no longer as true as it once was. Last year, for example, there were only 11 1b in baseball who had OPS's over .800, 8 LF's, and 9 RF's. And a lot of those guys either were really F***ing expensive or will be really F***ing expensive starting this year. On average last year, each of the 30 teams in MLB had 1 guy out of 1b, LF, and RF who put up an .800+ OPS over the full season. A lot of teams had zero guys who did.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) I personally don't think Jackson, Smith or Mayo puts the Bulls over the top. I don't know about this year, but within a year or two, I think Mayo probably does, if he can be fit into a working system. This year, I'm not sure yet if anyone does, even Anthony...but Mayo or Jackson would give the Bulls a 100% legitimate shot, if they could be healthy going into the playoffs.

Minor League talent rankings
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) Maybe I'm missing the context of this post, but I hardly consider the Dunn signing a failure just because it may or may not marginally affect the value of an ancillary player. I think the context is more that he's ripping on KW for seemingly commonly giving up more in trades than it appears he needs to.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) Then the signing was ultimately a failure. Does anybody really trust KW to get fair value, whatever that is, for Dayan? At this point no...because no self-respecting GM would trade a true haul for a guy who is blocked by a couple of other players and who has no obvious long-term position.

QUOTE (gatnom @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) For some reason, I remember the rumors being that we would give them anything in the minors short of Viciedo. I guess in either case it doesn't particularly matter because he soured on Hudson and Flowers in less than a years time, so he may very well decide to trade him even if he were unwilling to do so at the last deadline. That may have been one of the things mentioned in some of the discussions, but it never got to the point where they would have had to seriously choose between Dunn and Viciedo; the Nats kept demanding Beckham. But...honestly...if the Sox weren't willing to offer up Viciedo, there wasn't anything to discuss in the first place.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) We get Mayo and then we're in business. I'd hate to lose Gibson. But f*** it. Mayo/Rose back-court would be beyond electric. Just think about how much of a middle finger it would be to the NCAA rules...

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 02:02 PM) Just someone who can be a non-D League guy. I never liked Thomas much but he's better as a bench guy than a starter. Rather than just joking, here's Charlotte's front court Boris Diaw (Starting PF) Nazr Mohammed (Starting C if he's ever healthy) Desagana Diop Tyrus Thomas Eduardo Najera Dominic McGwire Only the last 2 make under $6 million this year ($2.8 for Najera and 0.8 for McGwire). Mohammed is the only expiring deal.

QUOTE (gatnom @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) Considering how hard KW tried holding onto him at the deadline, I bet we'll be seeing Viciedo at third in Charlotte this season and in Chicago at the very latest next year. I think I have to disagree with the premise here. I got the impression that Kenny was willing to move Viciedo, and was willing to do so for less than I thought he should get for him (a 2 month Dunn Rental)...but he just didn't want to be jerked around or not dealt with honestly. If the Nats had been willing to actually sit down and hammer out a deal of Dunn for Viciedo + something else, I think it'd have gotten done quite quickly.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) ur data is gettin audited brah In all seriousness, if someone wanted to audit my actual data, I'd say "Bring em on" because even if I've made a mistake or two, I know those sheets like the back of my hand. But the idea that I might teach something and then get in long-term trouble because a Congressman disagrees with it and I'm not Tenured, that's kinda scary.

God, I don't even work directly on climate science, but just as a person teaching a class this semester, this intimidates the Hell out of me. Congrats, Congressman, your threats are already working.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 11:40 AM) Brandon Marshall might be available via trade, given his so-so season in Miami. I know the Dolphins just acquired him but I think Sparano might be gone and Parcells might leave too. Depending on the new regime, the Fins might be willing to part with Marshall for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. I know he might be a serious headcase, but Cutler has undeniable chemistry with him. That would be a good option too, but yeah, I have zero idea of what Miami will do this offseason now. Trading away Marshall simply doesn't make them better.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) Agree. Am I the only one who thinks the NFL should adopt the college rule and get rid of PI as a spot foul? Refs call PI so inconsistently that it shouldn't be such a game-changing penalty. I also think this would shift some tactical weight back to the defense. This probably won't get any serious attention until there is an egregious game-changing PI call in an important game. I like how the NFL does it personally, because you see times when easy 40 yard catches are genuinely prevented by a defender just smothering a WR. Personally, I think the answer is to make PI a reviewable penalty.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) I agree on both counts. I want to see the Bears invest (either a FA or Draft Pick) in the WR position. I think we have found two nice players in Knox and Bennett that can play the slot or the off position. I still think we need to get Jay a guy who will actually a) get open consistently (our guys don't) and B) make a play on a the ball (our guys don't). Ideally I'd like to see Angelo or Ruskell bring in a Aromashodu type, a big body who can run, jump, and go up for the jump ball. Acquiring better WRs is still secondary to improving the OL. I have no idea what will happen in FA next year, whether or not there will be a next year, etc., but there are legit options without contracts for next year at both of those spots (and no, I'm not referring to Moss or Owens). Vincent Jackson and Ochocinco could be legit WR options with stuff left, and Logan Mankins at guard has really been key for the 2nd half Pats surge.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 11:14 AM) He also has no idea what a freaking pass interference looks like. He complained about every PI call/non-call the entire game. To be fair...with the way it's been called this year, I don't think anyone knows what actual pass interference looks like any more.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 11:15 AM) They may as well go with Infante. They have 4 good relievers right now plus Tony Pena, so I'd say go cheap with the last 2 spots and if the team needs to make a change come midseason, do it then. I think Infante is 99% sure going to get a tryout as the last reliever spot this year. That still leaves 1 spot open though. 2 if you count Sale as part of the rotation.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 11:13 AM) I think a lot of us would be okay with that trade if Joakim was healthy. I would too, but you just can't do it with no Noah. And Hell...Noah has been hurt the last couple years...so that depth is kinda important too.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) Brewer's actually been a ~15 PER player this year, which I found surprising. His PER is actually slightly higher than Deng's. With Noah out and our big men depth being the way it is, there's no way I would trade Taj. Not for Stephen Jackson at least. You can do it if you have a replacement coming back, but you can't survive with Asik, Thomas, and Scalabrine as your non-Boozer big men for the next 6 weeks. Hopefully Noah should be back before the trade deadline.
