The Republican Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) I can't believe that Obama has the nerve to go on to the world stage and essentially call China a currency manipulator at this point in time. Did he completely forget about QE and QE2? How about the stimulus plan, or the TARP bailouts? Really? You don't think that there is a fundamental difference between what China is doing and what the U.S. is doing, just based on the actual status of their economies?

I thought it sounded best with "Fox News" replacing it.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) Honestly as long as the Twins win, they pack the stadium. That's the way it has always been. The Twins averaged 39,700 last year. 29,000 in 2009, 28,000 in 2008, 28,000 in 2007, 28,000 in 2006. They went from 60% capacity to 100% capacity between 2009 and 2010.

Beckham available???
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2010 -> 12:37 PM) And for the record, I would deal Gordo if it meant getting a top notch slugger for this team. That's about it though. I'm sure we could talk you into a top flight starting pitcher also (Beckham for Lincecum). But yeah...a top notch slugger...who had at least 2 years before FA remaining, no trading him for 1 year guys.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) The Heat are essentially a brand new team. The core of that Bulls team had been there a while. Big difference. Yeah, but the last moment before that, they'd knocked off the Heat and gotten to the 2nd round of the playoffs. Then they imploded starting from day 1 of camp.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2010 -> 11:17 AM) I never knew a team could self-destruct so quickly. The Bulls, Skiles's last year?

Very annoyed with Mr. Colbert right now. I've heard that "F*** you" song each of the last 2 days while in the shower at the gym, and it's so hard to avoid replacing that phrase with "Fox News"

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2010 -> 09:20 AM) The only thing that should change out of that is the new stadium part. And you know quite well that's a huge part. Plus there are other potential stadium variables...like the fact that they didn't lose a week to snow any time during the season. (Although that will become gradually less likely with each passing year). Take the Tigers as an example. Everyone thought they had a great setup after their WS run, young pitching, lots of hitting, hell they even added Miguel Cabrera after that and expanded their salary hugely...but a handful of injuries and bad contracts and most people expect them to cut back on spending quite a bit this year.

I don't know about that, there are ways around it. We just tend to suspend people when they use them.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) Twins expected to raise payroll http://mlb-facts-and-rumors.blogs.cbssport...297882/25783918 With Mauer's contract expanding by about $10 million this year, they almost have zero choice. The question with them is going to be whether they can sustain it, even if they keep winning. That stadium was packed last year because it was the first year, it's a solid park, and they had a winning team.

Jermaine Dye wants back.
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Nov 12, 2010 -> 07:55 AM) He could make sense pending couple of things of course. For example he needs to prove he can still play at the 2008/2009 (pre ASB), IF Paulie wasn't to come back signing Dye to play 1B/DH (for a minimal contract) coupled with the money saved can get us Dunn to share 1B/DH duties wouldn't be a bad idea. The other thing that could work about a JD signing is that if JD struggles with the bats and he's on a small contract, you've bought yourself a couple months for Viciedo to work at 1b down in AAA. It's somewhat nice to have that backup plan there and to also have a guy who won't block him for too long if he's raking in Charlotte.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) It may be entirely possible that Keith Law hates the White Sox, but it may also be possible that he doesn't care either way about the White Sox and just gives his opinion of the players. I'm going to guess it's the latter. He has a ridiculous record of being wrong on White Sox guys, because every time they draft or sign someone, he immediately starts hating it.

Jermaine Dye wants back.
QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) Or he wanted to play for a team that was a contender and would have accepted less. Not everyone works for the high bidder like a whore. He probably could have talked the Giants into wanting him earlier in the season too. Or he could have found several jobs midseason if he'd been willing to DH. The White Sox could have really used some DH help, for example. The Angels as well.
